Five generations of Landrace pigs selected for average daily gain, backfat thickness, Mycoplasmal pneumonia of swine (MPS) lesion score, and plasma cortisol levels, was executed to decrease the MPS lesion score. Genetic parameters and correlated genetic responses for respiratory disease and peripheral blood immune traits were estimated in 1395 Landrace pigs. We estimated the negative genetic correlation of MPS lesion score with phagocytic activity (PA) at 7 weeks of age (‐0.67). The breeding values of PA at 7 weeks of age and 105 kg body weight and the correlated selection response of the ratio of granular leukocytes to lymphocytes at 105 kg body weight were significantly increased, and sheep red blood cell‐specific antibody production (AP) was significantly decreased in a selection‐dependent manner. Increasing of natural immunological indicators (e.g. PA) and decreasing of humoral immunological indicator (e.g. AP) were observed due to genetically decreasing MPS lesion score. 相似文献

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare neoplasm of macrophages or dendritic cells with a poor prognosis in dogs. As the apoptosis inhibitor of macrophage (AIM) is characteristically expressed in canine macrophages, we hypothesised that AIM is involved in the development or progression of HS in dogs. In this study, AIM expression in the tumour region and serum AIM levels in dogs with HS was assessed. Additionally, the effects of AIM overexpression on HS cell viability were investigated using a HS cell line that was selected from five validated HS cell lines. Immunohistochemistry showed that AIM expression was observed in the cytoplasm of the HS cells. CD36, a candidate AIM receptor, was also observed on the cell membrane of HS cells. When the serum AIM level was detected in 36 dogs with HS and 10 healthy dogs via western blot analysis, the AIM levels in the HS dogs were significantly higher than those in the controls. AIM mRNA expression in the 5 HS cell lines varied but was higher than that in the other tumour-derived lines. Among the five HS cell lines, DH82 originally had lower AIM and the highest CD36 expression. When AIM was overexpressed in DH82, therein cell growth speed and invasion, apoptosis inhibition and phagocytic activity were strongly upregulated. These data suggest that elevated intra-tumour expression of AIM could induce the progression of HS cells in dogs. The anticholinergic effects of 7 benzodiazepines, bromazepam, camazepam, chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, lorazepam, medazepam and triazolam, were compared by examining their inhibitory effects on the acetylcholine receptor-operated potassium current (I(K).(ACh)) in guinea-pig atrial myocytes. All of these benzodiazepines (0.3-300 μM) inhibited carbachol (1 μM)-induced I(K).(ACh) in a concentration-dependent manner. The ascending order of IC(50) values for carbachol-induced I(K).(ACh) was as follows; medazepam, diazepam, camazepam, triazolam, bromazepam, lorazepam and chlordiazepoxide (>300 μM). The compounds, except for bromazepam, also inhibited I(K).(ACh) activated by an intracellular loading of 100 μM guanosine 5'-[γ-thio]triphosphate (GTPγS) in a concentration-dependent manner. The ascending order of IC(50) values for GTPγS-activated I(K).(ACh) was as follows; medazepam, diazepam, camazepam, lorazepam, triazolam chlordiazepoxide (>300 μM) and bromazepam (>300 μM). To clarify the molecular mechanism of the inhibition, IC(50) ratio, the ratio of IC(50) for GTPγS-activated I(K).(ACh) to carbachol-induced I(K).(ACh), was calculated. The IC(50) ratio for camazepam, diazepam, lorazepam, medazepam and triazolam was close to unity, while it for chlordiazepoxide could not be calculated. These compounds would act on the GTP binding protein and/or potassium channel to achieve the anticholinergic effects in atrial myocytes. In contrast, since the IC(50) ratio for bromazepam is presumably much higher than unity judging from the IC(50) values (104.0 ± 30.0 μM for carbachol-induced I(K).(ACh) and >300 μM for GTPγS-activated I(K).(ACh), it would act on the muscarinic receptor. In summary, benzodiazepines had the anticholinergic effects on atrial myocytes through inhibiting I(K).(ACh) by different molecular mechanisms. 相似文献

Conidiogenesis by Oidium neolycopersici KTP-01 on tomato leaves was vitally monitored with a high-fidelity digital microscope. Conidiophores were initially formed 3 days after inoculation and then elongated to a maximum length within at least 12h. The apical part was split into two cells after two successive septations, accompanied by apical expansion. These cells subsequently developed into primary and secondary conidia. An additional septation at the stem portion of the conidiophores produced a generative and a foot cell. Subsequent conidiation occurred during repeated cycles of splitting of the generative cell, maturation of the apical cell into a conidium, and abstriction of the conidium. To our knowledge, this report is the first on the developmental process of conidiogenesis by powdery mildew on host leaves as revealed with the digital microscope. 相似文献

The infectivity of a Japanese isolate of tomato powdery mildew, Oidium neolycopersici KTP-01, to tomato cultivars was examined using a resistant cultivar Grace bred in The Netherlands to O. lycopersici, which was recently proposed to be renamed O. neolycopersici. Grace was severely infected with KTP-01, and its susceptibility was similar to that on susceptible tomato cultivars Moneymaker and Ponderosa, suggesting that KTP-01 differs in pathogenicity on tomatoes from those of European and American isolates. 相似文献

Bluefin tuna maintain a higher body temperature than ambient sea water. Body heat is derived mainly from metabolic heat to
elevate and maintain regional body temperature that is higher than the ambient, while heat loss is caused by heat transfer
throughout the whole body surface and gills. Retention of high body temperature is thought to differ at each growth stage,
so that a larger body mass maintains a higher body temperature. We evaluated the whole-body heat transfer coefficient, thermal
difference between each tissue and water temperature, and metabolic heat in tissues during swimming of juvenile bluefin tuna
as a function of fork length (FL) using a small thermometer and a treadmill-type flow tank. A system for maintaining high
body temperature was well developed in fish with FL greater than 20.0 cm. Whole-body heat transfer coefficient was fitted
to a −0.695 power of mass. Juvenile bluefin tuna showed a transition speed of 3.0 FL/s at which they switched from aerobic

Natural forest in Sri Lanka has been decreased significantly in the last few decades. The remaining natural forests especially
in floristic region seven have undergone less conservation efforts in the past. Considering the capacity of the government
and dependence on forest resources by local villagers, the only way for conservation of these forests in the Southwest lowland
is forest management through local participation. Management plans for community-based resource management have been completed.
However promotion of such management requires integrated measures, which are beyond jurisdiction of Forest Department. A holistic
approach with political commitment concerning buffer zone villages and economic incentives with income generation opportunities

The hippocampus plays a key role in learning and emotional regulation. The hippocampus’ function varies along its septotemporal axis, with the septal pole being more frequently involved in spatial learning and memory, and the temporal pole playing a greater role in emotional behaviors. In this study, we present findings aimed at checking the expression level of the genes encoding neurotrophins and their receptors, including nerve growth factor (NGF), brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neurotrophin‐3 (NT‐3), and their receptors (TrkA, TrkB and TrkC) in the hippocampus along the septotemporal axis. Using real‐time PCR, several different expression patterns were observed. Remarkably, the expression of both NT‐3 and TrkA genes in the septal hippocampus was higher than in the middle and temporal hippocampus. Higher expression of NT‐3 and TrkA may implicate active neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus (DG) of the septal hippocampus because more neurogenesis occurs in the septal than the temporal DG of rats. Finally, the results obtained in this study emphasize the importance of choosing the hippocampal portion along its septotemporal axis for any hippocampal molecular and biochemical experimental studies. 相似文献

Structural transformation between a dense molecular fluid and a polymeric liquid of phosphorus that occurred at about 1 gigapascal and 1000 degrees C was investigated by in situ x-ray radiography. When the low-pressure fluid was compressed, dark and round objects appeared in the radiograph. X-ray diffraction measurements confirmed that these objects were the highpressure liquid. The drops grew and eventually filled the sample space. Decompressing caused the reverse process. The macroscopic phase separation supported the existence of a first-order phase transition between two stable disordered phases besides the liquid-gas transition. X-ray absorption measurements revealed that the change in density at the transition corresponds to about 40% of the density of the high-pressure liquid. 相似文献
