Blast disease is one of the biggest diseases of rice plant in Japan. For example, in 1953, the total area of damage by blast disease was about 160 × 104 hectare and the decreased yield of rice Was about 67.5 × 104 ton in Japan. There have been many studies on blast disease for a long time. Tanaka and Katsuki (7)studied the relation between environmental conditions and blast disease. They always used adult healthy rice plants as plant materials and have not analysed the plants damaged by blast fungus directly. They suggested the presence of growth-promoting factors of blast funngus especially in susceptible rice varieties. Tamari and Kaji (5, 6) suggested that the blast fungus produced some effective toxic substances which might cause the disease. Suzuki, Doi and Toyoda (4) continued to study the mechanism of rice blast resistance and they have proposed 3 phases of resistance. They are (a) resistance and environtmental factors, (b) resistance and host camponents and (c) relation of host variety to fungus race.  相似文献

Relationships between abiotic oxidation and adsorption of phenolic acids added to soils and soil chemical properties were investigated by using 32 soil samples and ferulic, vanillic, and p-hydroxybenzoic acids. Soil properties studied were as follows: (as adsorption factors) contents of acid oxalate extractable Al (Alo), Fe (Feo), dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate (DCB) extractable Fe (Fed), total carbon and clay, and (as oxidation factors) level of soil oxidative activity (Cr oxidation) determined by the amount of Cr(VI) converted from Cr(III) added to soils. Soil samples were divided into 3 types based on chemical properties: Andosols A (A horizon of Andosols), Andosols B (B horizon of Andosols and light-colored Andosols), and non-Andosols.

The recovery of all phenolic acids (RPA) was negatively correlated with the total carbon and Feo contents in Andosols A and B, respectively, which suggested adsorption onto soil organic matter in Andosols A and onto Feo in Andosols B. It was considered that almost no oxidation of phenolic acids occurred in Andosols A, because a very small amount of Cr(VI) was obtained. The recovery of ferulic acid (RFA) and vanillic acid (RVA), however, was negatively correlated with Cr oxidation in non-Andosols, suggesting that these phenolic acids were oxidized, while almost all of the p-hydroxybenzoic acid was recovered.

These results were also supported by the comparison between RFA and recovery of dissolved organic carbon (RTOC). RFA was very similar to RTOC in Andosols A and B, which indicated that adsorption occurred, whereas RFA was lower than RTOC in the non-Andosols that showed a high level of Cr oxidation, indicating that oxidation took place. Manganese dissolution which occurred when phenolic acids were added to soils was also examined.  相似文献

In our preceding papers the distribution (1, 2), ecological problems (3,4), and the products of photosynthetic bacteria (5–8) have been studied. It was also reported that the growth and nitrogen fixation of photosynthetic bacteria were accelerated remarkably in the system of symbiosis with other heterotrophic microorganisms like Azotobacter (9) and Bacillus megaterium (10) ; moreover the products generated by photosynthetic bacteria were used by plants (11) and animals in water (2, 4), directly or indirectly. It is noteworthy that in paddy soil, this bacterial cells have a beneficial effect on the development of grains (11).  相似文献

The changes in total phosphorus (P) accumulation in the plow layer and in the contents of several P compounds in an upland Andosol with time and the effects of these changes on biomass production at the field level were investigated in relation to the continuous application of farmyard manure and compost (referred to as “farmyard manure”) and inorganic P for 9 y. 1) Inorganic P applied continuously without farmyard manure accumulated only in the plow layer of the upland Andosol, whereas the combined application of inorganic P and farmyard manure P led to the leaching below the plow layer, with a constant level (3.3–3.5 g kg-1) of P accumulation in the plow layer within several decades. In order to reach a constant P accumulation level, higher application of P shortened the time required for the accumulation. 2) Bray No. 2-P value in the plow layer increased with time and tended to become maximum only under the application of both inorganic P and farmyard manure. 3) Aluminum (AI) bound-P (AI-P) fraction in the plow layer of the Andosol increased continuously and quadratically with the cultivation, along with an accelerated decrease in the amount of iron bound-P (Fe-P) and residual-P fractions (Res-P) during the 9-y period. 4) Continuous application of farmyard manure accelerated the decrease in the organic P (Org-P) fraction, presumably due to promoting microbial activity in the plow layer. 5) During the 9-y period, differences in crop growth with and without continuous application of P became attenuated, suggesting that the availability of accumulated P in the plow layer of the Andosol farm field before the experiment increased for the subsequent crop cultivation. Continuous increase in the AI-P fraction with time was closely correlated with the increase in P availability of accumulated P for crop growth.  相似文献

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to increase the productivity of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr. cv. Enrei] seed by deep placement of controlled release nitrogen fertilizers and by the application of different methods of inoculation of bradyrhizobia. Ten days old seedlings in an inoculated paper pot (IPP), in a non-inoculated paper pot (NIPP), and those grown in a vermiculite bed without paper pot (DT) were transplanted to an upland field converted from a drained paddy field in Nagaoka. In addition to the basal application of 16 kg N ha?1 in the surface layer (Control), deep placement of 100 kg N ha?1 of urea (Urea), 100-day type coated urea (CU-100), and calcium cyanamide (CaCN2) treatments were applied at the depth of 20 cm. In the IPP method, a significantly higher seed yield was obtained with the deep placement of CaCN2 and CU-100 compared with the Urea and Control treatments. A similar tendency was observed for the DT and NIPP methods. Among the same N fertilizer treatments, the seed yield for IPP and DT tended to exceed that for NIPP, although the NIPP roots also showed nodulation probably due to infection with indigenous bradyrhizobia. The percentage of nitrogen derived from atmospheric N2 estimated by the simple relative ureide method was higher in the plants with CU-100 and CaCN2 compared with those with the Urea and Control treatments at the RI stage, suggesting that the basal deep placement of CaCN2 or CU-100 for soybean cultivation enabled the supply of N without concomitant depression of N2 fixation. Thus the deep placement of cheaper CaCN2 was found to be as effective as that of CU-100 for enhancing the soybean seed yield.  相似文献

Iron deficiency-responsive element 1 (IDE1) and IDE2 are cis-acting elements that are responsible for Fe-deficiency-inducible and root-specific expression of the barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) gene IDS2 (Fe-deficiency-specific clone no. 2). Using these cis-acting elements, we aimed to construct super-promoters that would induce prominent gene expression in the roots of Fe-deficient rice plants (Oryza sativa L.). Modules containing IDE1 and IDE2 of the IDS2 promoter were used as repeats or were linked to the Fe-deficiency-responsive promoter of barley IDS3, and were connected to known enhancer-like sequences. Five artificial promoters, as well as the native promoters of barley IDS2 or IDS3, were connected individually upstream of β-glucuronidase (GUS) and were introduced into rice. Transgenic rice plants were grown under control or Fe-deficient conditions, and GUS expression was analyzed. The artificial promoter that contained one module of IDE1 and IDE2 conferred strong Fe-deficiency-inducible GUS expression to the roots of rice plants. Each of the five artificial promoters induced a similar level of GUS expression in Fe-deficient roots, which did not exceed the GUS expression driven by the native IDS2 or IDS3 promoter. Artificial and native promoters induced GUS expression in response to Fe-deficiency in leaves, although the level of expression was lower than that in roots. Histochemical observations revealed that GUS expression driven by artificial and native promoters was spatially similar, and expression was dominant within vascular bundles and root exodermis. These findings suggest that there is coordinated expression of the genes that are involved in Fe-deficiency-induced Fe uptake in rice.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

An incubation experiment was conducted to clarify how soil flooding influences the mobility of radioactive cesium (RCs: 134Cs and 137Cs) in paddy soil after aging, focusing on the effects of ammonium increase and soil reduction. We used two contaminated paddy soils (A and B, both Gleyic Fluvisols) aged for 26 months after the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accidents, and analyzed both the RCs and stable cesium (133Cs). The soils were incubated in a flooded condition, with or without the addition of ammonium fertilizer, for 1, 15 and 30 d, and in an unflooded condition for 30 d. After the incubation periods, we quantified 133Cs concentration in the soil solution, 133Cs and RCs released from soil in 0.01 mol L–1 calcium chloride solution as parameters of release intensity, and 133Cs and RCs extracted with 1 mol L?1 ammonium acetate solution as exchangeable quantities, and analyzed their relationship with ammonium content and redox condition in soil. The increase of ammonium by both ammonification and fertilizer application promoted release of exchangeable 133Cs and RCs to the soil solution and calcium solution. When ammonium content became low during unflooded incubation, exchangeable 133Cs and RCs themselves decreased. When soil reduction progressed with flooded incubation, however, exchangeable 133Cs and RCs decreased, despite high ammonium content. To estimate the influence of soil reduction on the exchangeability of RCs, soil A was sequentially extracted with sodium hydrosulfite (a reducing agent) and ammonium acetate solutions. Compared with a control treatment using sodium sulfate instead of sodium hydrosulfite, the total RCs extracted by the reducing treatment was 42% lower, indicating that soil reduction decreases RCs exchangeability. Through these analyses of 133Cs and RCs, we conclude that soil flooding influences the mobility of aged RCs through two opposite effects: the release of exchangeable RCs into soil solution is enhanced with increased ammonium, while the exchangeable RCs itself decreases due to soil reduction.  相似文献

There is a variety of forest management institutions ranging from state management to community and private management. This article attempts to identify the conditions under which one institution outperforms the others in the efficiency of forest management based on a review of the literature, empirical evidence on the dominant forest management institutions, and theoretical arguments. In conclusion, we argue that the community management system performs best for nontimber forests, whereas a mixed management system, in which forest protection is carried out communally and tree management is carried out individually, is likely to work best for timber forests.  相似文献

Synaptic inputs on dendrites are nonlinearly converted to action potential outputs, yet the spatiotemporal patterns of dendritic activation remain to be elucidated at single-synapse resolution. In rodents, we optically imaged synaptic activities from hundreds of dendritic spines in hippocampal and neocortical pyramidal neurons ex vivo and in vivo. Adjacent spines were frequently synchronized in spontaneously active networks, thereby forming dendritic foci that received locally convergent inputs from presynaptic cell assemblies. This precise subcellular geometry manifested itself during N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor-dependent circuit remodeling. Thus, clustered synaptic plasticity is innately programmed to compartmentalize correlated inputs along dendrites and may reify nonlinear synaptic integration.  相似文献
