Context
The colonization of restored river reaches by benthic macroinvertebrates and fish depends strongly on the proximity of source sites. Central European river networks have been fragmented over decades and populations of sensitive species have been eradicated from large parts of the catchments.Objectives
Identification of remaining source sites (i.e., near-natural river stretches with populations of sensitive organisms) allows to protect them and reconnect them to degraded or restored stretches. We developed an approach to identify source sites of fish and benthic invertebrates and applied it to large parts of Germany.Methods
The approach is based on identifying source sites from sampling data (5919 benthic invertebrate and 2584 fish monitoring sites) depending on the occurring number of sensitive species. For river stretches that have not been sampled we conducted statistical modeling with environmental data (e.g. land use, river habitat data) using boosted regression trees to identify source sites characterized by similar environmental conditions.Results
The results are presented as maps on the level of the federal states. Statistical modeling allowed identification of stream type-specific environmental parameters and their thresholds. The maps allow a visual estimation of the recolonisation potential for river sections considered for restoration.Conclusions
The results provide valuable insight into the perspective of restoration in different regions. For restoration planning we suggest application on a catchment level using environmental data with higher resolution and consideration of additional parameters (e.g. fine sediment input) in lowland regions.103.

A COMMD1(MURR1) deletion has been reported as the cause of copper toxicosis (CT) in Bedlington terriers. Recent studies identified Bedlington terriers with copper accumulation without homozygous COMMD1 deletions. Wilson disease in humans is a copper storage disorder similar to CT caused by mutations in ATP7B, and COMMD1 has been shown to interact with the ATP7B protein. ATP7B may act as a modifier in CT, allowing for copper accumulation in Bedlington terriers with one deletion or other variations in COMMD1. In this study, ATP7B was cloned and sequence analysis conducted in a subset of Bedlington terriers from a pedigree that does not show complete association between the COMMD1 deletion and CT. Eleven polymorphisms, two in the coding region, were identified in the Bedlington terrier ATP7B gene. However, these are not unique to the Bedlington terrier and pedigree analysis suggests that ATP7B is not a modifier of COMMD1 in this subset of dogs. 相似文献

BACKGROUND
Classical biological control has been identified as the most promising approach to limit the impact of the invasive pest species Halyomorpha halys (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). This study investigated the parasitism rate at sites where the biocontrol agent Trissolcus japonicus (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) was released and where its unintentional introduction took place, in the Trentino–South Tyrol region. The effect of land-use composition was studied to understand which factors favor the establishment of hosts and parasitoids, including native and exotic species.RESULTS
The released T. japonicus were detected a year after the start of the program, with a significant parasitoid impact and discovery, compared to control sites. Trissolcus japonicus was the most abundant H. halys parasitoid, and Trissolcus mitsukurii and Anastatus bifasciatus were recorded also. The efficacy of T. mitsukurii was lower in sites where T. japonicus was successfully established, suggesting a possible competitive interaction. Parasitism level by T. japonicus at the release sites was 12.5% in 2020 and 16.4% in 2021. The combined effect of predation and parasitization increased H. halys mortality up to 50% at the release sites. Landscape composition analysis showed that both H. halys and T. japonicus were more likely to be found at sites with lower altitude and with permanent crops, whereas other hosts and parasitoids preferred different conditions.CONCLUSION
Trissolcus japonicus showed a promising impact on H. halys, at release and adventive sites, with minor nontarget effects, mediated by landscape heterogeneity. The prevalence of T. japonicus in landscapes with permanent crops could support IPM in the future. © 2023 The Authors. A 5-year-old Labrador retriever mixed breed dog was presented for an acute non-weight-bearing left hind limb lameness. A stifle disruption was diagnosed. The patient was treated using a novel extracapsular articulated stifle stabilizing implant (Simitri™). Twelve weeks after surgery the patient had full range of motion of the affected stifle and had begun to return to pre-injury activity. Collagens from a wide array of animals have been explored for use in tissue engineering in an effort to replicate the native extracellular environment of the body. Marine-derived biomaterials offer promise over their conventional mammalian counterparts due to lower risk of disease transfer as well as being compatible with more religious and ethical groups within society. Here, collagen type I derived from a marine source (Macruronus novaezelandiae, Blue Grenadier) is compared with the more established porcine collagen type I and its potential in tissue engineering examined. Both collagens were methacrylated, to allow for UV crosslinking during extrusion 3D printing. The materials were shown to be highly cytocompatible with L929 fibroblasts. The mechanical properties of the marine-derived collagen were generally lower than those of the porcine-derived collagen; however, the Young’s modulus for both collagens was shown to be tunable over a wide range. The marine-derived collagen was seen to be a potential biomaterial in tissue engineering; however, this may be limited due to its lower thermal stability at which point it degrades to gelatin. 相似文献

A set of 240 introgression lines derived from the advanced backcross population of a cross between a japonica cultivar,Xiushui 09, and an indica breeding line, IR2061, was developed to dissect QTLs affecting cold tolerance (CT) at seedlingstage and heat tolerance (HT) at anthesis. Survival rate of seedlings (SRS) and spikelet fertility (SF), the index traits of CTand HT, showed significant differences between the two parents under stresses. A total of four QTLs (qSRS1, qSRS7,qSRS11a and qSRS11b) for CT were identified on chromosomes 1, 7, 11, and the Xiushui 09 alleles increased SRS at all lociexcept qSRS7. Four QTLs for SF were identified on chromosomes 4, 5, 6, and 11. These QTLs could be classified into twomajor types based on their behaviors under normal and stress conditions. The first was QTL expressed only under normalcondition; and the second QTL was apparently stress induced and only expressed under stress. Among them, two QTLs(qSF4 and qSF6) which reduced the trait difference between heat stress and normal conditions must have contributed toHT because of their obvious contribution to trait stability, and the IR2061 allele at the qSF6 and the Xiushui 09 allele at the qSF4improved HT, respectively. No similar QTL was found between CT at seedling stage and HT at anthesis. Therefore, it ispossible to breed a new variety with CT and HT by pyramiding the favorable CT- and HT-improved alleles at above locifrom Xiushui 09 and IR2061, respectively, through marker-assisted selection (MAS). 相似文献

Freely nodulating soybean genotypes vary in their phosphorus (P) uptake and P‐use efficiency (PUE) in low‐P soils. Understanding the genetic basis of these genotypes’ performance is essential for effective breeding. To study the inheritance of PUE, we conducted crosses using two high‐PUE genotypes, two moderate‐PUE genotypes and two inefficient‐PUE genotypes, and obtained F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 populations. The inheritance of PUE was evaluated using a randomized complete block design. A generation mean analysis of phenotypic data showed that PUE was heritable, with complex inheritance patterns and the presence of additive, dominance and epistatic gene effects. Seed P, shoot P, root P, P‐incorporation efficiency and PUE were largely quantitatively inherited traits. There were dominance, additive × additive and dominance × dominance gene effects on PUE, grain yield, shoot dry weight, 100‐seed weight, root dry weight and shoot dry matter per unit P for populations grown under low‐P conditions. Dominance effects were generally greater than additive effects on PUE‐related indices. These PUE indices can be used to select P‐efficient soybean genotypes from segregating populations. 相似文献
