A male bovine linkage map was constructed using six half-sib families of the Norwegian Cattle population. The family material consisted of six sires and 285 sons, with the number of sons per sire ranging from 32 to 71. Of the 288 markers analysed, 261 were anonymous microsatellites and 27 were coding genes. Eleven of the coding genes were mapped by a two-step procedure involving intron/exon sequencing in the six sires and development of polymerase chain reaction-based methods for efficient genotyping in heterozygous families. Linkage analysis including both informative and non-informative sons was performed in order to obtain unbiased estimates of recombination fractions. The autosomal genome length of the Norwegian Cattle Map (NCM) was estimated as 2682 cM, with an average interval of 12.5 cM. The map provides sufficient marker density for scanning the whole bovine genome to locate quantitative trait loci. The large number of common markers between NCM and previously published maps will contribute to the comparison and integration of bovine maps.  相似文献

Phage typing was performed on 86 strains of Staphylococcus aureus and 25 strains of Staphylococcus intermedius from rooks and gulls with human, bovine, chicken and canine phages. Eighty per cent of the S aureus strains and 64 per cent of the S intermedius strains were typable. The S aureus biotype D strains of rook origin were specifically lysed at routine test dilution (RTD) by chicken phages from groups I or I + IV, by human phages belonging to groups I and M, and partly by canine phage 58. The other rook and gull S aureus strains did not show characteristic phage patterns. The S intermedius strains isolated from both species of birds could be typed only with canine phages and this correlated with their classification into biotypes. All the biotype 1 strains tested but only two of 12 biotype 2 strains were lysed with canine phages at RTD.  相似文献

Data related to rates of disease and their associated costs were collected for 12 months from 2 sheep feedlots in northern Colorado. There was an apparent seasonal occurrence of many of the diseases. Pneumonia, enterotoxemia, acidosis, and transport tetany accounted for most of the diseases seen in these feedlots and were responsible for most of the economic losses. There was a large difference in the incidence of diseases between the 2 feedlots and in the expenditures for disease prevention between the 2 feedlots.  相似文献
