In the middle of the 1990s, Pacific saury fishery vessels began to install “size separators” to selectively land large-size
class fish with a higher price. Contrary to expectations, this resulted in removal of the separators in 2006 because fishers
believed the separators had contributed to price collapses in the 2000s. The intent of this paper is to investigate the effects
of separators on both the fishery economy and stock of Pacific saury by simulating population and economic models under a
single framework. For this purpose, we developed (1) an age-structured population dynamics model with stochasticity, and (2)
an economic model spanning both price and inventory dynamics with stochasticity, in which each set of model parameters were
estimated on the basis of time series data. In a 10-year simulation, the harvest quota was set constant from 20,000 to 400,000 t
at intervals of 20,000 t, and the effects of separators were incorporated by controlling the catchability of 0-year-old fish.
We found that separators increase the expected yield and reduce the deficit risk for harvests of 140,000 t and smaller. However,
separators have the opposite effects for harvests of 160,000 t and larger. 相似文献

A 31-month-old Japanese Black cow (Bos taurus) aborted at 5 months of gestation with no clinical symptoms. Histopathological examination of the placenta and fetus revealed severe necrotic placentitis associated with numerous irregular degenerative fungi and inflammatory cells. Regular filamentous fungi were also detected, without inflammatory response in the fetal digestive and respiratory organs. Both fungi had aleurioconidia and septa in the placenta and fetal organs and immunohistochemically stained with antibodies against Aspergillus spp. Aspergillus terreus was isolated from the fetal lung and abomasal contents as confirmed using mycological and molecular methods. This is the first immunohistochemical, morphological, and molecular identification of A. terreus in bovine placenta and aborted fetuses. 相似文献

The storage of ripe tomatoes in low-O(2) conditions with and without CO(2) promotes γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) accumulation. The activities of glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) and α-ketoglutarate-dependent GABA transaminase (GABA-TK) were higher and lower, respectively, following storage under hypoxic (2.4 or 3.5% O(2)) or adjusted aerobic (11% O(2)) conditions compared to the activities in air for 7 days at 25 °C. GAD activity was consistent with the expression level of mRNA for GAD. The GABA concentration in tomatoes stored under hypoxic conditions and adjusted aerobic conditions was 60-90% higher than that when they are stored in air on the same day. These results demonstrate that upregulation of GAD activity and downregulation of GABA-TK activity cause GABA accumulation in tomatoes stored under low-O(2) conditions. Meanwhile, the effect of CO(2) on GABA accumulation is probably minimal. 相似文献

We have established a transgenic rat for adenocarcinoma of the prostate (TRAP) model that features uniform adenocarcinoma development in prostatic lobes at high incidence within a short experimental period. However, no invasive carcinomas with reactive stroma characteristics similar to those in man were observed. We therefore have focused on a new model for invasive carcinoma of the prostate using TRAP rats. In experiment 1, male TRAP rats in groups 1 and 2 were treated with orchiectomy at day 0 of the experiment. Rats in groups 1–3 underwent testosterone propionate (TP) implantation from weeks 1 to 4 and from weeks 6 to 16. Rats in groups 1 and 3 were given 3,2’-dimethyl-4-aminobiphenyl (DMAB) after TP implantation. The rats of group 4 served as controls. In experiment 2, the rats were divided into three groups, none of which received DMAB or orchiectomy, treated with TP continuously or with the treatment withdrawn once or twice. In experiment 1, invasive adenocarcinomas with abundant collagenous stroma were found in the dorsolateral and anterior prostate, some of which showed perineural space invasion at week 16. The number of invasive carcinoma foci was most frequent in group 3. In experiment 2, invasive adenocarcinoma development in the lateral prostates was correlated with the number of TP administration/withdrawal cycles. In conclusion, our newly established rat model for invasive adenocarcinoma of the prostate could serve as a useful preclinical model for evaluating the in vivo efficacy of preventive and therapeutic agents targeting of the tumor microenvironment. 相似文献

The hybrid vigor typical of F1 cultivars is used to boost biomass production of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench). The high dry-matter yielding F1 cultivar Kazetachi uniquely shows extremely late flowering and a long culm, and is greatly different from its parents. We investigated the genetic mechanisms underlying these phenotypes by quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis of recombinant inbred lines derived from a male-fertile line and a restorer line and grown in 3 years. QTL analysis for six traits (days-to-heading, culm length, culm width, culm number, panicle length, panicle number) revealed that the unique phenotypes of the F1 plants were controlled by the genetic combination of 12 or more QTLs detected in at least 2 years. Two putative QTLs for days-to-heading (qDH1 on SBI-01 and qDH6 on SBI-06) would strongly affect the other phenotypes because of their co-localization with QTLs for other traits, as supported by significant phenotypic correlations. Troponin T (TnT) is one of the myofibrillar proteins that is easily degraded during postmortem aging of pork. In this study, we determined the N-terminal amino acid sequences of TnT degradation fragments produced during postmortem aging and by m-calpain hydrolysis. The N-terminal amino acid sequences of TnT fragments produced during postmortem aging were EVHEPEEKPRPKLTAP, EKPRPKLTAPKIPEG, and APKIPEGEKVDF. On the other hand, the N-terminal amino acid sequences of TnT fragments produced by the action of m-calpain were APPPPAEV, EVHEPEEK, and APK. These sequences of degradation fragments could be mapped on fast type TnT isoform 2. The peptide bonds of His37-Glu38 and Thr51-Ala52 in fTnT2 were cleaved during postmortem aging as well as by the calpain hydrolysis; therefore, calpain was concluded to have an important role in TnT degradation during postmortem aging. It was also found that the sourness-suppressing peptide APPPPAEVHEVHEEVH (Okumura et al. Biosci. Biotechnol. Biochem. 2004, 68, 1657-1662) derived from TnT degradation could be produced by the action of calpains on Glu21-Ala22 and His37-Glu38 sites. 相似文献

Dielectric study of heat-denatured ovalbumin in aqueous solution by time domain reflectometry method
The dielectric behavior of native and heat-denatured ovalbumins (OVAs) from three avian species in aqueous solution was examined over a frequency range of 100 kHz to 20 GHz, using the time domain reflectometry (TDR) method. For the native OVA solutions, three kinds of relaxation processes were observed at around 10 MHz, 100 MHz, and 20 GHz, respectively; these could be assigned to the overall rotation of protein molecules, the reorientations of the bound water, and the free water molecules, respectively. For the heat-denatured samples, three relaxation processes were also observed. However, the relaxation process at approximately 100 MHz originated via a different mechanism other than the reorientation of bound water, namely, the micro-Brownian motion of peptide chains of heat-denatured protein. From the observed relaxation process at approximately 100 MHz, the relaxation strength of heat-denatured OVA solution for duck was higher than that of OVA solutions for hen and guinea fowl and showed the pH dependency from pH 7.0 to 8.0 for OVAs obtained from all three species. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that the relaxation strength was closely related to surface hydrophobicity of protein molecules and gel rheological properties. It was suggested that the difference in the surface hydrophobicity of protein influenced the dielectric behavior of water around denatured protein, whereas the dielectric behavior of denatured protein could be an indication of the gel rheological properties. Such studies can aid in the understanding of the different network structures of OVA gels from three avian species. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to develop prediction equations for methane (CH4) emissions from lactating cows using the CH4/carbon dioxide (CO2) ratio in the breath measured in the automatic milking system (AMS) and to evaluate the predicted values and factors affecting the CH4/CO2 ratio. The model development was conducted using a dataset determined in respiration chambers or head boxes (n = 121). Then, gas measurements in the AMS as well as in the head box were carried out with six lactating cows fed one of three different levels of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content, following a 3 × 3 Latin square experimental design. The obtained equation that is suitable for practical use on farms to predict CH4 was CH4 (L/day) = −507 + 0.536 live weight (kg) + 8.76 energy-corrected milk (kg/day) + 5,029 CH4/CO2 (adjusted R2 = 0.83; root mean square error = 40.8 L/day). Results showed that the predicted values correlated positively with the observed values, the determined CH4/CO2 ratio increased with increasing dietary NDF content, and the detected eructation rate was in the normal range. On the other hand, the CH4/CO2 ratio was affected by the time interval between measurement and last eating before the measurement. 相似文献
