Analysis of economic data pertinent to the existing municipal wastewater treatment plants (MWTP) in Greece is presented. Thisinformation is important when budgeting for future plants. Thedata include land usage and the costs for construction, operationand maintenance of the form y = ax b, where a and b are calculated coefficients. Equations for cost and landuse were produced for specific systems. Personnel and energy aspects are analysed as they are major contributors to operationalcost. A life cycle analysis (LCA) of plants is undertaken. The results of such an analysis should suggest the most preferabletechnology under given circumstances. Thus, under high energy costs and low level of automation and operation, at low F/M ratios, conventional activated sludge systems are relatively notcost effective. In addition, for cost of land less than US$30 per m2, waste stabilisation ponds are cost effective subjected to minor earthworks.  相似文献

Soil CO2 emission (FCO2) in agricultural areas results from the interaction of different factors such as climate and soil conditions. Our objective was to investigate the spatiotemporal variation of FCO2, temperature (Tsoil), moisture (Msoil) and air-filled pore space (AFPS), as well as their interactions, during the sugarcane field reform. The study was conducted on a 90 × 90 m sampling grid with 100 points at 10 m spacings. Ten assessments of FCO2, Tsoil and Msoil were carried out at each point over a 28-day period. The greatest mean values of FCO2 (0.74 g m−2 hr−1) and Msoil (31.7%) were obtained on Julian day 276, 2013, being associated with precipitation events at the study site. Also, the smallest values of AFPS (19.17%) and Tsoil (20.90°C) were observed on the same day. The spatial variability of FCO2, Tsoil, Msoil and AFPS was best described by an adjusted spherical model, although an exponential model better fitted some results. The spatial pattern of all soil attributes showed little temporal persistency, indicating a high complexity for FCO2 during precipitation. Correlation maps assisted in identifying regions where Msoil and AFPS better controlled the emission process and where Tsoil was important. A major challenge for world agriculture is to increase the efficiency of conventional soil management practices. We highlight the importance of the spatial pattern of soil properties that directly influence the CO2 emission dynamics. Future mitigation actions should involve less intense tillage and ensure homogeneous applications of soil inputs, thereby reducing production costs and the contribution of these activities to CO2 emissions during the sugarcane field reform.  相似文献

Plant genetic resources (PGR) represent valuable sources of genetic variability for crop breeding. The development of novel biotechnologies is necessary for increasing the efficiency of their use in pre‐breeding and breeding work. The genome sequencing of hundreds of genotypes and the mining of allele diversity in major crops and populations of landraces and wild relatives allow the isolation of genes underlying characters of interest and their precise modification or transfer into targeted varieties. The technological developments and applications of new plant breeding techniques (NPBT) that maximize the similarity with gene transfer by crossing (cisgenesis/intragenesis) or the accuracy of biotechnological approaches (genome editing) are reviewed. Their potentialities and current limitations as well as the possible advantages of using them separately or combined for the exploitation of PGR in crop breeding are also discussed. Above‐mentioned NPBT tackle some objections to the application of biotechnologies in agriculture and are under review worldwide to assess the possible exclusion from the current regulation systems for genetically modified plants.  相似文献

Twig cankers and diebacks were observed on cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus L.) hedges located in a private garden of Perugia (Central Italy). Four fungal isolates, forming gray colonies and aerial mycelium, were obtained from cankers. For each isolate, Koch’s postulates were fulfilled by inoculating cherry laurel plants. Based on cultural characteristics, rep-PCR and phylogenetic analyses on ITS and EF1-α nucleotides sequences, the isolates were identified as Diplodia seriata De Not. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of D. seriata as a new pathogen of P. laurocerasus. The severe symptoms and the wide distribution of the host plant make the pathogen potentially dangerous for this ornamental species.  相似文献

A series of carbon-honeycomb monoliths from kenaf natural fibers (KNF) have been prepared and characterized. Firstly, KNF were physically mixed with polyvinyl acetate (PVA) as a binder and next the mixture was extruded through a die to form disc type monoliths. After the extrusion, the monoliths were dried, carbonized and, finally, physically activated with synthetic air at different temperatures (350-550 °C). The carbon-honeycomb monoliths were characterized by N2 adsorption at −196 °C, mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experimental results indicate that the method proposed in this work was suitable for the synthesis of solid carbon monoliths with the presence of large meso- and macropores like long parallel and straight canals extended through their structure. MIP data and SEM images illustrate an evident and progressive aperture of the blocked parallel channels with an increase of the activation temperature.  相似文献

The plastome sequence of the European cultivated potato, Solanum tuberosum subsp. tuberosum (tbr, GenBank accession no. DQ386163), was compared with that of S. bulbocastanum, a wild potato relative (blb, GenBank accession no. DQ347958), in order to characterize the degree and type of variability in different genomic regions, and develop molecular markers relevant to genetics, breeding and biotechnology of potato. One hundred forty-two and 251 PICs (Potentially Informative Characters) were found in coding and non-coding sequences (NCSs), respectively. Further, while variation in coding regions was almost exclusively due to nucleotide substitutions, 25% of PICs in NCSs of tbr and blb were due to indels, most of them mononucleotide or longer tandem repeats (micro and minisatellites). Four intergenic regions were selected for further analyses in other 16 tuber-bearing Solanum species. The rps16-trnQ UUG gene spacer was found to be the most variable, forty-six PICs in this region distinguishing 18 haplotypes. Analysis of haplotype relationships, based on variability in the four intergenic regions, confirmed that the most primitive species from Central America were the most distant to S. tuberosum. Finally, polymorphic sites in the same regions were used to develop a set of CAPS (Cleaved Amplified Polymorphic Sequences) markers for species/cytoplasm identification in Solanum spp.  相似文献
