One hundred and ninety cases of rabbits, seen at animal hospitals in Saitama and Tokyo, Japan from 1998 to 2001, with BUN values greater than 27 mg/dl were analyzed regarding their underlying and/or complicating diseases and outcomes. Gastrointestinal disorder (54 cases) was the most common disease, followed by overgrowth of molar teeth and then liver disturbance. The total mortality was 48.9% within three months, and cases showing complications such as liver disturbance or bacterial infection showed highest mortality. Cases with higher BUN values showed even higher mortality, although mortality varied depending on the complications. Therefore, the prognosis of rabbit cases with high BUN values should be evaluated based on findings from blood chemistry, together with the seriousness of the underlying and/or complicating disease. 相似文献
This paper deals with 16 cases presented from April to December 2001 and diagnosed clinically as rabbit syphilis, because they showed distinct lesions around the nose and/or mouth, responded to chemotherapy, and the "Rapid Plasma Reagin" test was positive. Twelve cases exhibited initial symptoms and four were relapses. Lesions around the genitalia and/or anus as well as the nose and/or mouth were seen in 8 cases, and 6 cases indicated sneezing. Fifteen cases were successfully treated with oral administration of chloramphenicol, and one was treated with long-acting penicillin by intramuscular injection. The mean age of onset was 8.8 months. As none of these cases had any mating history, the disease was likely to be maternally transmitted. 相似文献
This prospective case study aimed to clarify the clinical significance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for the differential diagnosis of canine adrenal tumors. Forty-three client-owned dogs with adrenal tumors were included. All dogs underwent CEUS, which was evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. The peak signal intensity (PI), time to peak signal intensity (TPI), mean transit time (MTT), upslope, and downslope were calculated for each time-intensity curve. The histopathological diagnosis of each resected mass was compared with the CEUS findings and parameters. Enhancement distribution, vascularity, tortuous nourishing vessels, enhancement pattern, and late-phase enhancement did not differ significantly between adrenal cortical adenoma (CA), adenocarcinoma (CAC), and pheochromocytoma (PHEO) in qualitative assessment. In PHEO, the TPI was significantly more rapid compared with that in CA (P=0.0287) and CAC (P=0.0404). The MTT in PHEO was significantly shorter than that in CA (P=0.0016) and CAC (P=0.0003). Upslope in PHEO was larger than that in CAC (P=0.0406). Downslope in PHEO was significantly larger than that in CA (P=0.0048) and CAC (P=0.0018). A receiver operating characteristic curve analysis demonstrated that the area under the MTT curve yielded 0.91 for distinguishing PHEO from adrenocortical tumors in dogs; an MTT cut-off value less than 6,225 msec yielded a sensitivity of 69%, specificity of 94%, and likelihood ratio of 12.46. CEUS appears to be clinically applicable for the differential diagnosis between cortical and medullary origins of primary adrenal tumors in dogs. 相似文献
The purpose of this study was to determine the utility of triple‐phase helical computed tomography (CT) for differentiating canine hepatic masses. Seventy dogs with hepatic masses underwent triple‐phase CT followed by surgical removal of the hepatic masses. Triple‐phase helical CT scans for each dog included precontrast, arterial phase, portal venous phase, and delayed phase studies. The removed hepatic masses were histopathologically classified as hepatocellular carcinoma (n = 47), nodular hyperplasia (n = 14), and hepatic metastatic tumors (n = 9) in dogs. Of the 47 hepatocellular carcinomas, the most common CT findings included a heterogeneous pattern with hyper‐, iso‐, and hypoenhancement in both the arterial and portal venous phases (40/47, 85.1%). Of the 14 nodular hyperplasias, the most common CT findings were a homogeneous pattern with hyper‐ and isoenhancement in both the portal venous and delayed phases (13/14, 92.9%). Of nine hepatic metastatic tumors, the most common CT findings included a homogeneous hypoenhancement pattern in both the arterial and portal venous phases (8/9, 88.9%). In addition, 5 (55.6%) showed homogeneous hypoenhancement patterns in the delayed phase. Findings from our study indicated that triple‐phase CT is a useful tool for preoperative differentiation of hepatocellular carcinoma, nodular hyperplasia, and hepatic metastatic tumors in dogs. 相似文献
Extractive components of live mussels during ice storage for 13 days were investigated to determine changes in the quality of the mussels. The quality of live mussels was estimated using a taste active value (TAV), an equivalent umami concentration (EUC), and a hierarchical cluster analysis heat map, which were calculated from the extractive components. The extractive components with TAV greater than 1 were glutamic acid, alanine, adenosine monophosphate, and succinic acid during the storage period and aspartic acid up to day 10, whereas the TAV of glycine and inosine monophosphate was less than 1 after day 3. EUCs decreased from 4.38 mg MSG/100 g on day 0 to 3.28 mg MSG/100 g on day 13. Based on the cluster analysis of the metabolite composition and viable bacterial counts, ice-cold live mussels were divided into three clusters: I (days 0–1), II (days 3–10), and III (day 13). Considering not only the decrease in TAV and EUC but also the results of the cluster analysis, it is suggested that live mussels maintain high quality up to the 1st day of ice storage, and thereafter, the quality will be reduced gradually during storage on ice.
The Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) is a valuable bird as both
an experimental animal, for a wide range of scientific disciplines, and an
agricultural animal, for the production of eggs and meat. Cryopreservation of PGCs
would be a feasible strategy for the conservation of both male and female fertility
cells in Japanese quail. However, the effects of freeze-thaw treatment on viability,
migration ability and germline transmission ability of quail PGCs still remain
unclear. In the present study, male and female PGCs were isolated from the blood of
2-day-old embryos, which were cooled by slow freezing and then cryopreserved at –196
C for 77–185 days, respectively. The average recovery rate of PGCs after
freeze-thawing was 47.0%. The viability of PGCs in the frozen group was significantly
lower than that of the control group (P<0.05) (85.5% vs. 95.1%).
Both fresh and Frozen-thawed PGCs that were intravascularly transplanted into
recipient embryos migrated toward and were incorporated into recipient gonads,
although the number of PGCs settled in the gonads was 48.5% lower in the frozen group
than in the unfrozen control group (P<0.05). Genetic cross analysis revealed that
one female and two male recipients produced live progeny derived from the
frozen-thawed PGCs. The frequency of donor-derived offspring was slightly lower than
that of unfrozen controls, but the difference was not significant (4.0
vs. 14.0%). These results revealed that freeze-thaw treatment
causes a decrease in viability, migration ability and germline transmission ability
of PGCs in quail. 相似文献
One calf died (No. 1) and another was euthanized following astasia (No. 2). Histopathological examination revealed suppurative meningoencephalitis in these calves. Klebsiella pneumoniae antigens were detected in lesions. Thymocytes were decreased in the thymus cortex in both cases. 16S rRNA gene sequencing of the No. 1 isolate and bacterial extracts from formalin fixed paraffin embedded sections of No. 2 revealed that both samples were K. pneumoniae. The No. 1 isolate showed multidrug resistance against penicillin antibiotics, fosfomycin, streptomycin, macrolide antibiotics, tetracycline antibiotics, and clindamycin. Immunosuppression is a significant septicemic K. pneumoniae infection risk factor. Our study provides new aspects regarding K. pneumoniae infections in cattle, bacterial meningoencephalitis differentiation, and K. pneumoniae and bacterial meningoencephalitis treatments. 相似文献
Tula virus (TULV) and Puumala virus (PUUV) are hantaviruses carried by the bank vole (Myodes glareolus) and European common vole (Microtus arvalis), respectively. PUUV is a causative agent of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), while TULV is thought to be apathogenic to humans. The N-terminal regions of the N proteins from TULV and PUUV were expressed and applied as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) antigens. Colonized Japanese grass voles (Microtus montebelli) and BALB/c mice were used for experimental inoculation of the vole-borne hantaviruses TULV and PUUV. Voles and mice showed significant antibody production toward both viruses, but these antisera showed little cross-reactivity between TULV and PUUV in the immunofluorescence antibody assay and ELISA. In contrast, sera from patients with HFRS caused by PUUV exhibited high cross-reactivity against the TULV antigen, and sera from a natural rodent reservoir showed moderate cross-reactivity against the heterologous antigen, indicating that the antigenic cross-reactivity between TULV and PUUV differs in sera from rodents and humans. 相似文献
