In order to confirm the in vivo effectiveness of anti- feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) mouse-cat chimeric antibody (FJH2), and anti-feline calicivirus (FCV) mouse-cat chimeric antibody (F1D7), cats that had been experimentally infected with FHV-1 or FCV were administered intravenously with the chimeric antibodies, and observed for clinical manifestations. The symptoms due to FHV-1 or FCV infection in the cats administered FJH2 or F1D7 were obviously decreased when compared with those of the non-administered control cats. From these results, it was confirmed that both FJH2 and F1D7 were effective at reducing the appearance of symptoms due to FHV-1 and FCV infection, respectively. 相似文献

A soil drench of soluble silicon (liquid potassium silicate) was tested for the control of powdery mildew of strawberry in
soil for 2 years in a vinyl house under growers' conditions on two cultivars: very susceptible Toyonoka and slightly susceptible
Sachinoka. Soluble silicon suppressed the disease more effectively as a preventive control than as a control to reduce initial
incidence. The suppressive effect against this disease was more effective for Toyonoka than for Sachinoka. The control value
of soluble potassium silicate was 85.6% for Toyonoka in the first year and 60.2% in the second year, while for Sachinoka it
was 58% in the first year and 40.6% in the second year. Strawberry leaf hardness was measured for the control and silicate-treated
leaves. Although silicate-treated leaves seemed to be harder than control leaves, leaf hardness did not vary significantly
between controls and silicate-treated leaves in either of the 2 years, and the mode of preventive action of liquid potassium

The gene constitution of polymorphisms of the four calpain genes (µ‐calpain, m‐calpain, p94, and µ/m‐calpain) were analyzed in South‐East Asian native chickens, White Leghorn and Broiler commercial chickens, and Red and Green jungle fowl. Polymorphisms were detected at all loci in chickens and Red jungle fowl, but only for CAPN1 (µ‐calpain gene) in Green jungle fowl. CAPN2 and CAPN1.5 are linked on chicken chromosome 3, and the genotype for these loci were treated as haplotype. Some combinations of calpain loci were tested using principal component analysis, and the best combination (CAPN1, CAPN3, and CAPN1.5) was determined. The proportion of polymorphic loci (Ppoly) and heterozygosity (H?) were 1.00 and 0.316–0.465 in domestic chickens and red jungle fowl, and 0.33 and 0.137 in Green jungle fowl, respectively. GST values suggested that the degree of subdivision among native chickens was relatively low except for Thailand, which was highest. Pair‐wise FST testing, dendrogram and principal component analysis from the results of calpain loci showed that the four South‐East Asian native and commercial chicken populations were close genetically. 相似文献

Leaf blast suppression in multilines was evaluated based on the number of susceptible lesions observed in a pure stand of
susceptible rice cultivar Sasanishiki, and in 1 : 1 and 1 : 3 mixtures of Sasanishiki and a resistant near-isogenic line,
Sasanishiki BL4 or BL7, from 1998 to 2001. The number of lesions first observed in fields in the 1 : 1 and 1 : 3 mixtures
were close to theoretical numbers calculated using the number of lesions observed in the pure stands and the ratios of the
susceptible Sasanishiki in the mixtures. The ratio of the number of lesions in the 1 : 1 and 1 : 3 mixtures to the number
in the pure stand was 0.29 and 0.09, respectively. The relationship between these ratios and the ratios of susceptible Sasanishiki
in mixtures was defined in an equation to estimate the degree of leaf blast suppression. Validation studies for the ratios
of the number of lesions in the 1 : 1 and 1 : 3 mixtures to the number in the pure stand were conducted in two different locations
and showed that the ratios are almost acceptable. The calculated autoinfection to alloinfection ratio was 1.3 and 1.4 in the
1 : 1 and 1 : 3 mixtures, respectively, suggesting that the calculated ratio will affect the degree of leaf blast suppression.
Thus, predictors were obtained to estimate leaf blast suppression for effective blast control in multilines. 相似文献

Dehydrins are proteins associated with conditions affecting the water status of plant cells, such as drought, salinity, freezing and seed maturation. Although the function of dehydrins remains unknown, it is hypothesized that they stabilize membranes and macromolecules during cellular dehydration. Red-osier dogwood (Cornus sericea L.), an extremely freeze-tolerant woody plant, accumulates dehydrin-like proteins during cold acclimation and the presence of these proteins is correlated with increased freeze tolerance (Karlson 2001, Sarnighausen et al. 2002, Karlson et al. 2003). Our objective was to determine the location of dehydrins in cold-acclimated C. sericea stems in an effort to provide insight into their potential role in the freeze tolerance of this extremely cold hardy species. Abundant labeling was observed in the nucleus and cytoplasm of cold-acclimated C. sericea stem cells. In addition, labeling was observed in association with plasmodesmata of cold-acclimated vascular cambium cells. As a new use of bamboo, bamboo cubes may be useful as a shot-blast material for surface treatments. However, a suitable processing
technique for bamboo cubes has not been established. In this study, to obtain basic knowledge regarding the processing technology
for bamboo cubes, we installed shearing blades (upper and lower blades) in a universal testing machine to test cross-sectional
shearing of bamboo. The shearing force generated in this shearing was composed of a vertical component (F
v), a forward component (F
f), and a side component (F
s). This shearing force (F
v, F
f, and F
s) and the machining accuracy were investigated under various processing conditions. The shearing force became larger as the
thickness of bamboo increased. In particular, F
v showed a tendency to increase rapidly. Changes in the shear angle of the upper blade had a remarkable influence on F
v. This result suggests that the shearing force could be greatly decreased by adjusting the shear angle. The shearing force
within bamboo of 3mm in thickness was almost unaffected by the blade angle, and the change of shearing force with increasing
clearance was almost indiscernible. It was clearly demonstrated that a large number of bamboo cubes could be made when the
shear angle was large and cross-sectional shearing was performed from the bark side. However, a consequence of a large shear
angle is that burr area increases.

To investigate the biosynthesis and stereochemistry of syringylglycerol-8-O-4′-(sinapyl alcohol) ether (SGSE), a syringyl 8-O-4′ neolignan, feeding experiments and enzyme assays using Eucommia ulmoides were carried out. Diastereoselective formation of erythro-SGSE was found. When [8-14C]sinapyl alcohol was administered to excised shoots of E. ulmoides, 14C was incorporated into free SGSE and SGSE glucosides. In stems, incorporation into (+)-erythro-[14C]SGSE (0.037%) with 9.1% enantiomeric excess (% e.e.) was found; incorporation into the threo isomer was not detectable. Erythro-[14C]SGSE glucosides (0.047%) dominated over threo forms (0.007%) with 74.0% diastereomeric excess (% d.e.); both diastereomers were levorotatory with 32.0% e.e. and 18.3% e.e., respectively. In leaves, higher incorporation into (−)-erythro-[14C]SGSE (0.500%, 15.9% e.e.) than into the threo isomer (0.206%, 7.4% e.e.) was observed (41.6% d.e.). (−)-Erythro-[14C]SGSE glucosides (1.692%, 25.0% e.e.) were produced at higher rates than threo isomers (0.177%, 16.4% e.e.) with 81.0% d.e. In incubations of a mixture of [8-14C]sinapyl and [8-14C]coniferyl alcohols with an insoluble enzyme preparation from stems of E. ulmoides, erythro-SGSE was preferentially produced. The highest % d.e.
