From 1997 to 1999, 29 cases of disorders were detected in cattle and horses that had been fed ryegrass straw imported from the U.S.A. These animals showed symptoms resembling ryegrass staggers and the clinical signs disappeared after removal of the straw. Endophytic hyphae were detected in the seeds of all straw samples that were responsible for the clinical cases. Lolitrem B concentrations in the straw ranged between 972 and 3740 ppb. Ergovaline concentrations were between 355 and 1300 ppb. Even though the concentrations of lolitrem B were lower than the toxic threshold proposed by Oregon State University in better part of the cases, our observations suggest the possibility that lolitrem B lower than the proposed threshold can bring disorders to sensitive individuals. 相似文献

A new class of insecticides and acaricides containing N-(α-substituted phenoxybenzyl)-4-pyrimidinamines as core structure were synthesized and their insecticidal and acaricidal potencies assessed. Among these, both the N-(3 or 4-phenoxybenzyl)-4-pyrimidinamine showed remarkable activity against diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella L., brown rice planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stal) and two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch. The potency of the new pyrimidinamines was particularly increased when a methyl, ethyl, iso-propyl, or cyclopropyl group was introduced at the α-position of benzyl moiety and it was evident that a single (+) optical isomer is more active than its antipode. Specific - pathogen - free chickens were inoculated in the right tibiometatarsal joint with a synovitis-derived Mycoplasma synoviae strain before or during dexamethasone treatment. Development of synovitis in chickens inoculated during the drug treatment was apparently delayed in comparison with development of synovitis in non-treated chickens. Severity of clinical synovitis in chickens inoculated before the drug was given was apparently less than that in chickens not treated or in chickens treated with dexamethasone. Histopathologic changes in the early stage of the infection (1 to 2 weeks) were not modified by dexamethasone treatment, although those changes in the succeeding stage (6 to 7 weeks) were greatly lessened. A relationship was observed between the dosage of dexamethasone and the severity of synovitis, as well as the kinds of cells that infiltrated into the joint lesions. Although serum antibody titers in chickens treated with an excessive dose of dexamethasone were markedly lower, clinical, bacteriologic, and histopathologic observations in chickens treated with dexamethasone were similar to those previously found in surgically thymectomized chickens. These results may support the theory that multiple synovitis of chickens caused by M synoviae infection develops mainly because of an immune response, especially by thymus-dependent functions. 相似文献

Although structure modifications of natural pyrethrin constituents have disclosed a variety of potent synthetic analogues, all known examples are cyclopropanecarboxylate esters, a grouping that appeared to be essential for insecticidal activity. Some new substituted 2-phenylalkanoates, whose biological activities are of a similar nature and potency to those of conventional pyrethroids, are now reported. 5-Benzyl-3-furylmethyl and 3-phenoxybenzyl 3-methyl-2-phenylbutyrates and their analogues are potent insecticides. Activity is increased on the introduction of appropriate groups into the 3 and/or 4-positions of the aryl ring and the (S)-2-phenylalkanoates are far more active than their (R)-enantiomorphs. Structure/activity relationships are compared with those for conventional pyrethroids. Some of the new series compare favourably with typical insecticides in tests against Musca domestica, Spodoptera litura and Plutella xylostella. 相似文献

ESK cells, a stable cell line derived from a swine embryo kidney, were found to be a good medium for plaque formation of the Prague and Miami strains of equine influenza virus. Factors influencing the plaque formation were investigated and a plaque assay for these viruses was worked out. The method is not only simple enough for routine use, but also is as sensitive as the egg inoculation method. The method was readily adapted for a neutralization test. 相似文献

6-benzylaminopurine) was sprayed 5, 10 and 15 times at four different periods to promote flowering of a grafted Japanese red
pine (Pinus densiflora) clone. Four stages were I, August 4 to September 1; II, September 6 to October 4; III, October 5 to November 14 and IV,
November 30 to December 28, in 1994. Concentration of BAP was 250 mg/l. In May, 1995, no apical female strobili were observed
at the top of the new shoots in any treatment. However, BAP application at stage III (floral differentiation period) produced
lateral female and bisexual strobili at the lower part of new shoots. The numbers of lateral female and bisexual strobili
were 87 out of 147 to 234 out of 162 new shoots. Frequency of BAP application did not affect the numbers. Marked decrease
in number of male strobili induced by BAP application at stages I and II was observed. In contrast, the number of new shoots
was increased by the BAP application at the above stages. Treatment at stage III and IV did not affect significantly the number
of male strobili and new shoots. These results indicate that BAP application at stage III specifically induces the development

ObjectiveTo determine the effects of intramuscular (IM) administration of medetomidine and xylazine on intraocular pressure (IOP) and pupil size in normal dogs.Study designProspective, randomized, experimental, crossover trial.AnimalsFive healthy, purpose-bred Beagle dogs.MethodsEach dog was administered 11 IM injections of, respectively: physiological saline; medetomidine at doses of 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80 μg kg−1, and xylazine at doses of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0 mg kg−1. Injections were administered at least 1 week apart. IOP and pupil size were measured at baseline (before treatment) and at 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 24 hours post-injection.ResultsA significant decrease in IOP was observed at 6 hours after 80 μg kg−1 medetomidine compared with values at 0.25 and 0.50 hours, although there were no significant changes in IOP from baseline. In dogs treated with 8.0 mg kg−1 xylazine, significant reductions in IOP were observed at 4 and 5 hours compared with that at 0.25 hours after administration. In dogs treated with 5, 10, 20 and 40 μg kg−1 medetomidine and 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg kg−1 xylazine, there were no significant changes in IOP. Pupil size did not change significantly after any of the medetomidine or xylazine treatments compared with the baseline value.Conclusions and clinical relevanceLow or moderate doses of medetomidine or xylazine did not induce significant changes in IOP or pupil size. In contrast, high doses of medetomidine or xylazine induced significant changes up to 8 hours after treatment, but values remained within the normal canine physiological range. The results of this study suggest a lack of significant change in IOP and pupil size in healthy dogs administered low or moderate doses of xylazine or medetomidine. 相似文献
