As gadolinium‐based contrast agents are paramagnetic and have T2 shortening effects, they have the potential to adversely affect gradient recalled echo sequences. The aim of this prospective, cross‐sectional study was to evaluate the effects of gadolinium administration on T2*‐weighted sequence diagnostic quality and signal intensity when imaging the canine brain. A total of 100 dogs underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including pre‐ and postcontrast T2*‐weighted sequences acquired with a delay (Group A) or immediately (Group B) following gadolinium administration. Pre‐ and postcontrast images were subjectively compared. In dogs with intracranial enhancing masses, regions of interest were drawn on corresponding images and signal intensity ratios were calculated. The effect of degree and pattern of contrast enhancement, susceptibility artifacts, and time between contrast injection and T2*‐weighted sequence acquisition on signal intensity ratio was evaluated. Overall 31 dogs had contrast enhancing intracranial masses. Subjectively, there was no difference in image quality of T2*‐weighted sequences obtained before and after contrast medium administration. No significant signal intensity differences of intracranial contrast enhancing masses were found (Group A P = 0.9999; Group B P = 0.9992). Susceptibility artifacts did not differ in appearance, and there was no effect on calculated signal intensity ratio (P = 0.8142). Similarly, there was no effect of degree of enhancement or contrast heterogeneity on signal intensity ratio (P = 0.4413). No correlation was found between signal intensity ratio and the time to acquisition (P = 0.199). Administration of gadolinium‐based MRI contrast agents does not adversely affect T2*‐weighted imaging of the brain in dogs at 1.5 T even in the presence of contrast enhancing lesions.  相似文献

Two experimental bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) challenge studies were undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of a single intranasal dose of a bivalent modified live vaccine containing BRSV in 3-week-old calves. In the first study, vaccine efficacy was evaluated in colostrum deprived (maternal antibody negative) calves 5, 10 and 21 days after vaccination. Nasal shedding of BRSV was significantly reduced in vaccinated calves challenged 10 or 21 days after vaccination. Virus excretion titres were also reduced in vaccinates challenged 5 days after vaccination but reduction in duration of shedding and total amount of virus shed were not statistically significant. Clinical disease after challenge in this study was mild. In the second study, vaccine efficacy was assessed in calves with maternal antibodies against BRSV by challenge 66 days post-vaccination. Vaccination significantly reduced nasal shedding after challenge and the severity of clinical disease was also reduced.  相似文献

Previous studies indicated that the pathogenesis of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) may vary depending on the age of the infected chicken. The reason for this difference is not clear, immunopathogenesis studies comparing different age groups are lacking. In the present study the IBDV-immunopathogenesis was compared in 12-day-old and 28-day-old specific-pathogen-free layer-type chickens. Birds were inoculated with the classic virulent strain IBDV-IM. Interestingly, the up-regulation of interferon (IFN)-gamma and interleukin-1beta expression varied between the two IBDV-infected age groups. The cytokine expression pattern was different between IBDV-infected age groups in magnitude and timing not only in bursal tissue and caecal tonsils but also in the spleen. No variations between the different age groups were observed in IBDV-induced bursa lesions, accumulation of intrabursal T cells and macrophages, and systemic stimulation of the release of nitric oxide inducing factors. Furthermore, virus-neutralizing antibody levels were comparable between age groups. Under these experimental conditions, age-related differences were found only for the cytokine patterns but interestingly this did not influence the outcome of the disease with IBDV-IM.  相似文献

Most of the studies regarding the immunopathogenesis of avian Metapneumovirus (aMPV) have been done with subtype C of aMPV. Not much is known about the immunopathogenesis of aMPV subtypes A and B in turkeys. Specifically, local immune reactions have not been investigated yet. We conducted two experiments in commercial turkeys. We investigated local and systemic humoral and cell mediated immune reactions following infection with an attenuated vaccine strain of aMPV subtype B (Experiment I) and virulent strains of aMPV subtypes A and B (Experiment II). Turkeys infected with virulent aMPV strains developed mild respiratory signs while birds inoculated with the attenuated aMPV did not show any clinical signs. Virus neutralizing antibodies were detected locally in tracheal washes and systemically in serum as soon as 5-7 days post aMPV infection (PI) independent of the strain used. Virus neutralizing antibody titres peaked at 7 days PI and then antibody levels declined. The peak of serum ELISA antibody production varied between infected groups and ranged from 14 and 28 days PI. All aMPV strains induced an increase in the percentage of CD4+ T cell populations in spleen and Harderian gland at days 7 or 14 PI. Furthermore, as shown in Experiment I, infection with the attenuated aMPV-B strain stimulated spleen leukocytes to release significantly higher levels of interferons (IFNs), interleukin-6 and nitric oxide in ex vivo culture in comparison to virus-free controls up to 7 days PI (P<0.05). As detected by quantitative real time RT-PCR in Experiment II, infection with virulent aMPV induced an increased IFNgamma expression in the Harderian gland in comparison to virus-free controls. IFNgamma expression in the spleen varied between aMPV strains and days PI. Overall, our study demonstrates that aMPV subtypes A and B infection induced humoral and cell mediated immune reactions comparable to subtype C infections. We observed only temporary stimulation of serum virus neutralizing antibodies and of most of the local immune reactions independent of the aMPV strain used. The temporary character of immune reactions may explain the short duration of protection against challenge following aMPV vaccination in the field.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a common test for dogs with suspected intradural spinal cord lesions, however studies on diagnostic performance for this test are lacking. Objectives of this multi‐institutional, retrospective, case‐control study were to estimate sensitivity and specificity of MRI for (1) distinguishing between histopathologically confirmed intradural spinal cord disease versus degenerative myelopathy in dogs, (2) categorizing intradural spinal cord diseases as neoplastic, inflammatory, or vascular; and (3) determining tumor type within the etiologic category of neoplasia. Additional aims were to (1) determine whether knowledge of clinical data affects sensitivity and specificity of MRI diagnoses; and (2) report interrater agreement for MRI classification of intradural spinal lesions. Cases were recruited from participating hospital databases over a 7‐year period. Three reviewers independently evaluated each MRI study prior to and after provision of clinical information. A total of 87 cases were sampled (17 degenerative myelopathy, 53 neoplasia, nine inflammatory, and eight vascular). Magnetic resonance imaging had excellent (>97.6%) sensitivity for diagnosis of intradural spinal cord lesions but specificity varied before and after provision of clinical data (68.6% vs. 82.4%, P = 0.023). Magnetic resonance imaging had good sensitivity (86.8%) and moderate specificity (64.7–72.5%) for diagnosing neoplasia. Sensitivity was lower for classifying inflammatory lesions but improved with provision of clinical data (48.1% vs. 81.5%, P = 0.015). Magnetic resonance imaging was insensitive for diagnosing vascular lesions (25.0%). Interrater agreement was very good for correctly diagnosing dogs with intradural lesions (? = 0.882–0.833), and good (? = 0.726–0.671) for diagnosing dogs with neoplasia.  相似文献

Recent years have seen an increasing effort towards the development and adoption of sustainable crop protection strategies, especially in the EU. Several policy frameworks have been put in place including the EU framework Directive (128/EC/2009) on the sustainable use of pesticides. Consequently, all EU Member States developed National Action Plans to ensure the implementation of the general principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) by all professional pesticide users starting from January 1, 2014. On the other hand, there are also difficulties related to the adoption of IPM in Europe and worldwide which seek for a better understanding of factors hindering IPM uptake. This paper presents the potential role that each actor of the food chain may have – called here stakeholders – to ensure a higher level IPM adoption in Europe. The information reported here is a summary based on several discussions held within a three-year European Research Area Network project on Coordinated Integrated Pest Management (ERA-Net C-IPM; http://c-ipm.org/).  相似文献

The reduction of risks associated with plant protection products is the main goal of the National Action Plan on sustainable use of plant protection products. One further goal is the use of plant protection products according to the necessary minimum. This aim serves also as an indicator with the target that 95% of pesticide applications are within the necessary minimum. For this purpose, the data from the Reference Farm Network on the intensity of pesticide use are assessed. With the current study we summarize the result for arable crops over the ten-year project period and investigate in detail the assessments from 2014 until 2016. The results show, that the majority of pesticide treatments are evaluated within the necessary minimum. Deviations occur especially for fungicide and insecticide treatments. Other factors, such as regional weather and pest or disease occurrence, production specific factors as well as farmers’ decision processes additionally influence the annual pesticide use intensity and the necessary minimum. Existing technologies, decision support systems and recommendations from advisory service should be better exploited in order to minimize those deviations.  相似文献

Applications of hyperspectral remote sensing data to derive relevant properties for precision agriculture are described. Green leaf area index, fraction of senescent material and grain yield are retrieved from the hyperspectral data. Two sensors were used to obtain these data; the airborne visible/infrared imaging spectrometer AVIS and the space-borne compact high-resolution imaging spectrometer CHRIS; they show the applicability of the methods to different spatial scales. In addition, the bi-directional observation capability of the CHRIS sensor is used to derive information about the average leaf angle of the canopies which are used to link canopy structure with phenological development. Derivation of the canopy properties, green leaf area index and fraction of senescent material was done with the radiative transfer model, SLC (soil–leaf–canopy). The results were used as input into the crop growth model PROMET-V to calculate grain yield. Two years of data from the German research project preagro are presented.  相似文献

The root-borne C- and N-flux in the plant/soil system was studied by determining the 14C- or 15N-balances in pot trials with soil as a substrate (14CO2- or 15NH3-application to the shoots, comparison of sterile and nonsterile treatments for quantification of root-borne substances). The following results were obtained: 1. The amount of (primary) root-borne carbon compounds released into soil was (besides root respiration) 11—20% of net-CO2-assimilation or 13—32% of the 14C incorporated into the plants (= 1 t C · ha—1). 5—6% of 15N assimilated by the plants were released as root-borne N compounds (= 15 kg N · ha—1). 2. A considerable portion of the root-borne C (about 6% = 600 kg C · ha—1) was found in the rooted soil zone at the end of the experiments (rhizodeposition). 3. (Primary) root-borne C and N compounds found in immediate vicinity of the roots (about 60—80%) were mainly water soluble, whereas most of the C and N compounds found in a greater distance were water insoluble. The water soluble exudates consisted mainly of neutral (carbohydrates) and acid fractions (organic acids). The basic fraction (amino acids) made up a small portion only. 4. The root-borne C and N compounds influenced the nutrient balance of soil and plant directly and/or indirectly via microbes (depending on species, variety and nutritional status of plants). 5. Microbes stimulated the release of C- and N-compounds, but rapidly respired 65—85% of the root-borne C-compounds, thereby putting a burden on the C-budget of the “host” plant. 6. It could be shown by the example of hup+ Rhizobium meliloti strains (tested by 3H2-incorporation) and the wheat-Serratia-association, that energy efficient microbenplant systems can improve plant performance.  相似文献
