It was previously reported that compared to triacylglycerol (TAG) oil, diacylglycerol (DAG) oil improves postprandial lipid response. However, the effects of DAG oil on postprandial hyperglycemia and incretin response have not yet been determined. In this study, the effects of DAG oil on both postprandial hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia and the response to the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) were studied. This randomized, double-blind, crossover study analyzed data for 41 individuals with high fasting triacylglycerol concentrations. The subjects ingested test meals (30.3 g of protein, 18.6 g of fat, and 50.1 g of carbohydrate) containing 10 g of DAG oil (DAG meal) or TAG oil (TAG meal) after fasting for at least 12 h. Blood samples were collected prior to and 0.5, 2, 3, 4, and 6 h after ingestion of the test meal. Postprandial TAG concentrations were significantly lower after the DAG meal compared with the TAG meal. Postprandial TAG, insulin, and GIP concentrations were significantly lower after the DAG meal compared with the TAG meal in 26 subjects with fasting serum TAG levels between 1.36 and 2.83 mmol/L. DAG-oil-based meals, as a replacement for TAG oil, may provide cardiovascular benefits in high-risk individuals by limiting lipid and insulin excursions. 相似文献

The distribution of copper and zinc in volcanic ashes was investigated. It was found that the total copper of volcanic ashes decreased with the increase of their total silica, showing a close relationship between the total copper and the rock types of volcanic ashes. On the other hand, the total zinc showed no such correlation with the rock types. The contents of copper and zinc in the constituent minerals Indicated that zinc was more concentrated in the heavy minerals and was closely related to the iron contents of the constituent minerals. According to the concentrations of copper and zinc in the constituent minerals and the total contents of the minerals in the andesitic ash samples, the distribution of these elements was determined to be the following order. Cu: volcanic glass>plagioclase>pyroxenes> titanomagnetite Zn; pyroxenes > volcanic glass> titanomagnetite>plagioclase Since volcanic ashes belonging to rhyolite and basalt were overwhelmingly composed of volcanic glass, it was obvious that the distribution of copper and zinc was much greater in the volcanic glass of these ashes. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Stable reproduction is essential for supplying artificially hatched fish to tuna aquaculture. We observed testes maturation in reared Pacific bluefin tuna (PBT) Thunnus orientalis at 2+ years of age. The incidence of males with mature testes was 25.0%, and 40% of the males had developing testes that contain spermatozoa, while oocytes of the same aged females were not mature. These fish were wild-caught at 0+ years old in August 1997 and the gonads were examined in October 1998 and January–February 2000. Therefore, the age at examination in 2000 was estimated to be 2 years and 7–10 months old considering the spawning season of the wild PBT and the size when captured. Histological examination of the matured and developing testes showed that they contained spermatozoa, spermatids, spermatocytes, and spermatogonia. All the spermatozoa were observed to be motile in sea water under light microscopy. From the results of this and previous studies, matured males are probably fertile for at least 5 months a year in Kushimoto. The testes maturation observed at young age in captivity is considered promising to reduce the cost of broodstock maintenance for the juvenile production of PBT, especially if the sperm are cryopreserved. 相似文献

Oncorhynchus nerka, using an artificial raceway. During the downstream migratory period, T implant resulted in high plasma T levels and inhibited
the occurrence of downstream swimming behavior (negative rheotaxis) in yearling (1+) immature smolts. In terms of upstream
behavior, 2-year-old (2+) males exhibited high plasma T and 11-KT levels, while 2+ females had elevated T and DHP levels.
In 1+ immature fish, a T implant induced upstream swimming behavior (positive rheotaxis). In experiments 1 and 3, the plasma
T4 and T3 levels of non-migrants tended to be higher than those of migrants. In contrast, no marked changes in plasma and pituitary
LH were found in both downstream and upstream migrants. These results suggest that sex steroids, such as T, play significant

on its chemical composition. This is the first report of the isolation of glucosylceramide with antimicrobial activity from
the fruiting body of this mushroom. This compound was identified as 1-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(2S,3R,4E,8E)-2-[(2R)-2-hydroxyhexadecanoylamino]-9-methyl-4,8-octadecadiene-1,3-diol. Field observations were conducted at Bukit Tarek Experimental Watershed in Peninsular Malaysia to investigate the relationship
between rainfall-runoff responses and variation in soil moisture in a tropical rain forest. Stormflow depended strongly on
the antecedent wetness as represented by the initial runoff rate. Though heavy rains fell in almost every month, the soil
moisture decreased when fair weather was sustained. The soil moisture depleted and became dry at 160 cm depth during occasional
dry spells. During dry conditions, streamflow responded quickly to rain events but declined rapidly after the rain stopped,
and the soil moisture of surface soil (≤20 cm) increased but remained dry at lower depths (≽80 cm). This suggests that the
rain water was mostly retained in the soil and only small proportions appeared as stormflow. As soil moisture conditions became
wetter, the recession limb of the storm hydrograph was more gradual. Stormflow volume increased with increasing soil moisture.
During wet conditions, the soil profile was moist at all parts of the slope. The hydraulic gradient was around 1.0 and there
was downward soil water flux, which followed the pressure gradient. This suggests that subsurface flow from the upper part
of the slope might also be important for stream-flow production. Positive pressures were observed at 10 cm and 160 cm depths
during large storms. The behavior of the subsurface flow might be an important determinant of stormflow. 相似文献

Mycelial growth and mushroom yields of three strains of Pleurotus eryngii produced on wheat bran-supplemented umbrella plant (Cyperus alternifolius) substrate were assessed using surface brightness, bromophenol blue color reactions, ergosterol and glucosamine contents, and water potential as indicators of strain performance. Mycelial growth was 31%–46% greater, depending on strain, on the umbrella plant substrate compared with the mushroom industry standard sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) substrate. Mushroom yields on the first flush were 20%–23% higher, depending on strain, on the plastic bottle-contained umbrella plant substrate. However, yields on the second break were lower from the umbrella plant substrate. Because many growers in Japan only harvest one flush, production of P. eryngii on umbrella plant substrate may offer commercial producers an alternative basal ingredient to diminishing supplies of sugi sawdust.Part of this report was presented at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Gifu, April 2002. 相似文献
