This work examines the effects of two deficit irrigation strategies, conventional deficit irrigation (DI) and partial root-zone drying (PRD), on mature navel orange trees. The study carried out during two consecutive years (2008 and 2009) in a semi-arid climate on a silty–clay–loam soil in the north of Iran. Both DI and PRD trees were irrigated at two levels, 75 and 50% (DI75, PRD75, DI50 and PRD50) of the full irrigation (FI). In DI, irrigation water was applied to both sides of the tree rows, similar to FI. In PRD, irrigation water was applied alternately to only one side, at each irrigation event. Results showed that DI treatments reduced fruit yield by ~30% compared with FI, but PRD treatments caused no reduction in fruit yield. No negative impact was detected in fruit quality after applying DI and PRD treatments. Shoot growth decreased in all DI and PRD treatments in both years. In DI, stomatal resistance was higher (50%) than in FI, but it was not significantly affected in PRD. The irrigation water use efficiency of PRD trees increased to nearly twice that of FI. According to these two years' results, we recommend PRD as an acceptable deficit irrigation strategy in the region.  相似文献

A new empirical-based scaling method is introduced to predict saturated hydraulic conductivity (K s ) of compacted soils. This method is an improvement of the former non-similar media concept (NSMC) model that is generalized for tilled and untilled conditions. In this method, geometric mean particle size diameter (dg ), geometric standard deviation (σ g ) and saturated soil water content (total porosity) are successfully incorporated in the empirical-based scaling factor of K s . Results showed that the scaled model overestimated K s by ~18%, whereas the NSMC model underestimated K s by ~21%. However, the scaled model based on the similar media concept (SMC) failed to predict K s . Because of the complexity and high uncertainty in determining the shape factor parameter in the NSMC model, it is suggested that the new scaled model might be used reliably in practical cases to predict K s in the various layers of compacted soils irrespective of the tillage condition. Further assessment of the new scaling model in other areas, in which new collected data are available, is recommended.  相似文献

Information regarding the evaluation of tillage effects on soil properties and rainfed wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars of Iranian fields is not available. Therefore, this research was conducted in Sanandaj (west of Iran) using a randomized complete block design in a split-plot arrangement. Three types of tillage including conventional tillage (moldboard plow to soil depth of 30 cm plus disk harrow twice), minimum tillage (chisel plow to soil depth of 15 cm plus disk harrow once) and no-tillage are assigned to the main plots. Wheat cultivars (Sardari and Azar2) were randomly distributed within the subplots in each tillage system. Results showed that the greatest bulk density and cone index were found in the minimum tillage and no tillage systems. The highest rate of grain yield was obtained in the minimum tillage system. The grain yield of Sardari cultivar (1624.1 kg ha?1) was significantly greater than that of Azar2 (1572 kg ha?1). Minimum tillage improved soil physical properties and wheat growth compared with the other tillage systems. No tillage increased microbial biomass carbon and bacteria number in soil compared with the other tillage systems. We conclude that using minimum tillage for Sardari cultivar will be more effective compared with other treatments.  相似文献

Parts of paddy fields in Mazandaran Province, northern Iran, are confronted with soil and water salinity. To screen proper rice cultivars, an experiment was performed with eight modified rice cultivars under four levels of irrigation water salinity (1, 2, 4 and 6 dS m?1) with three replications, in Amol, northern Iran. The objective of the present study was the evaluation of eight screening indices for identifying salinity tolerance of these cultivars, so that suitable cultivars can be recommended for the cultivation with saline irrigation water in paddy fields. To evaluate the resistance of these cultivars to salinity stress, different indices were calculated. The results showed that Khazar cultivar was the most salt-sensitive cultivar in all salinity levels. In the irrigation salinity levels of 2 and 4 dS m?1 Neda cultivar and in the level of 6 dS m?1 Dasht cultivar were the most salt-resistant cultivars. In the two irrigation salinity levels of 4 and 6 dS m?1, the mean productivity index was the most effective in the screening of salt-resistant cultivars. Harmonic mean, geometric mean productivity, stress tolerance index and mean productivity indices were found to be the best indices in screening resistant cultivars.  相似文献

The present study aimed at assessing the effects of addition of thymol [0 (T0), 2.5 mg/L (T2.5), 5 mg/L (T5) and 10 mg/L (T10)] to water on biochemical and antioxidant responses of common carp, Cyprinus carpio, during 3-h transportation. The lowest dissolved oxygen and ammonia levels after transportation were related to T2.5 and T5 treatments respectively. T5 treatment exhibited lower cortisol/glucose responses after transportation and 24 h after that, whereas T2.5 and T10 exhibited elevations in these parameters at the same times. Hyperammonaemia and hyperchloraemia were observed in T2.5 treatment immediately after transportation, but such changes were observed in all treatments, 24 h after transportation. Addition of 10 mg/L thymol to water prevented uraemia after transportation, but all thymol-treated fish exhibited uraemia, 24 h after transportation. Thymol treatment failed to mitigate lactate elevation immediately after transportation; nevertheless, T2.5 and T10 had, respectively, the lowest and highest lactate levels, 24 h after transportation. T5 treatment inhibited alteration in superoxide dismutase activity, immediately after transportation, and T10 exhibited a similar effect, 24 h after transportation. Addition of 2.5 mg/L thymol to water significantly increased catalase activity immediately after transportation, but such a response was observed in all treatments, 24 h after transportation. T2.5 and T10 exhibited higher malondialdehyde levels than T0 immediately after transportation, but such a response was observed in all thymol-treated fish, 24 h after transportation. In conclusion, addition of 5 mg/L thymol is beneficial in reducing water ammonia concentration and stress in carp during transportation.  相似文献

Livestock presence in forest ecosystems is considered a factor in forest destruction in developing countries; therefore, rehabilitation practices following livestock exclusion could be a good way to restore forests. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in the soil properties and plant biodiversity 12 years after applying fencing and planting in the livestock farms in the Hyrcanian Forests of Iran. First, three regions close to each other were selected and then four areas (treatments) were considered in each region: 1. An area under livestock use (L), 2. an enclosed area (E; with fences, established in 2007), 3. a planted area (P; established with Acer velutinum seedlings in 2007), and 4. a control area (C; natural forest); therefore, a total of 12 areas were considered. In each of the 12 areas, three plots (20?×?20 m) were randomly established (a total of 36 plots), and all the vascular plants in the herbaceous layer and woody species seedlings were recorded in order to study the biodiversity of the vegetation cover. One soil sample was taken from each plot to examine the physical and chemical properties of the soil. The results showed that bulk density, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and available potassium were not significantly different between the C, E, and P treatments. Rehabilitation practices improved the soil pH (P: 6.36?±?0.06, E: 6.59?±?0.08), EC (P: 0.86?±?0.05, E: 0.82?±?0.04 ds cm?1), total nitrogen (P: 0.31?±?0.001, E: 0.31?±?0.005), available phosphorus (P: 10.13?±?2.22, E: 19.29?±?2.43 mg kg?1), and available potassium (P: 1369.60?±?31.06, E: 1898.80?±?448.60 mg kg?1). The Margalef index was lower in the L area and no significant difference was observed between the E and P areas. Since the multivariate analysis (based on the vegetation and soil data) showed that P and E had more similarity to C, these treatments could accelerate the forest restoration process.

Nanofibrous membranes are intensively applied to fabricate advanced intelligent devices like highly sensitive sensors due to their flexibility, high porosity, high surface area and good mechanical and chemical stability. In this work, fluorescent cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots (Q.Ds) were synthesized and then uniformly embedded in poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibers by electrospinning technique to serve as reversible quenching fluorescence-based sensor to detect the traces of benzene, toluene and xylene vapors selectively at room temperature. Fluorescence analysis suggested that Q.Ds preserve their original fluorescent property in solid nanofiber as if they were in solution. Scanning electron microscopy images showed the uniform diameter of nanofibers. In addition, Fluorescence and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements confirmed the uniform distribution of the Q.Ds into nanofibers structures. The main mechanism of quenching based sensor was designated as electron transfer from thiogalycolic acid (TGA) — capped Q.D surface to target volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) vapors. Fabricated sensor showed selectively sensing upon trace of different target vapors due to the difference in the electronegativity of various VOC’s molecules. For example exposure to more electron withdrawing toluene molecules induces severe quenching effect on fluorescence intensity of Q.D (about 25 %) over xylene exposure. Moreover, it was observed that reducing the diameter of nanofibers enhanced the sensitivity of sensor.  相似文献

Abstract

A 480-g flowerhorn cichlid (an ornamental hybrid) with severe bilateral abdominal swelling, bulla-like structures on the skin, bilateral exophthalmia, and a prolapsed intestine was presented. Radiographs showed compression of the posterior part of the swim bladder and abdominal distention. Ultrasonography of visceral organs revealed a heterogeneous mass with hypoechoic to anechoic polycystic parenchyma and free fluid in the abdominal cavity. At necropsy, free fluid in the abdominal cavity and a large polycystic mass originating from the posterior kidney were observed. Histologically, the mass was composed of more cystic growth of tubules. The renal architecture was replaced by tubules, often irregular in shape, lined by simple to lightly stratified layers of neoplastic and pleomorphic cuboidal to columnar epithelial cells and the absence of glomeruli. Birefringent crystals were observed with polarized light within the lumen of some tubules. The apical border of the neoplastic cells was periodic acid–Schiff positive. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive for cytokeratin AE1/AE3 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen and were negative for p53 (tumor suppressor protein). Microscopic metastasis was seen in the spleen. The metastatic tumor was classified as a cystic adenocarcinoma of the kidney, originating from the proximal tubules.
