Goats are important domestic animals in the south of Thailand due to the minimal cost of rearing and maintaining them, and their production of both meat and milk. Toxoplasmosis is one of the most threatening parasitic zoonoses and the causative agent Toxoplasma gondii uses a wide range of warm-blooded intermediate hosts including the goat. The objective of this study was to assess the seroprevalence of antibodies to T. gondii in goats of Satun Province in Thailand. A total of 631 goat sera were examined for antibodies against toxoplasmosis with commercial latex agglutination test kits (Toxocheck-MT 'Eiken'). Of these, 176 (27.9%) were found to be positive to T. gondii; antibody titers ranged from 1:64 to 1:4096 (1:64 cut-off). Female goats were 1.73 times more likely than male to be seropositive (odds ratio [OR]=1.73; 95% confidential interval [CI]=1.11, 2.73). Dairy goats were more likely to be seropositive than meat goats (OR=1.36; 95% CI=0.84, 2.20). Goats were infected with T. gondii with acquisition of age because older goats were more likely to be seropositive than young goats under 1-year-old (for 1-2 years, OR=19.6; 95% CI=0.92, 4.15, for >2 years, OR=2.70; 95% CI=1.26, 5.80). The high seroprevalence of T. gondii antibodies found in the present study suggested widespread exposure of goats in Satun Province to T. gondii.  相似文献

The serum concentration of non-essential amino acid (NEAA) was measured in ten Holstein dairy cows grouped as low production (n=5) and high production (n=5) from one month pre-partum through four months post-partum and the relationship between production and amino acid concentrations was studied. The glycine (Gly)/NEAA ratio and the glycine/alanine ratio of the high production group were significantly higher than the low production group (p<0.01). The observed decrease of the alanine (Ala)/NEAA ratio was more remarkable in the high production group than in the low production group. Measurement of Gly/Ala ratio in serum may be useful for evaluating the nutritional status of peri-parturient dairy cow.  相似文献

We conducted somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) monitoring on 3 dogs with cervical spinal cord dysfunction caused by various diseases throughout operative procedures to examine whether the intraoperative SEP monitoring was effective for prediction of spinal cord conductive function. The SEP was recorded on the scalp via stimulation of the ulnar nerve. Stable SEP was recorded in all animals examined. Its amplitude was decreased by surgical manipulations of the regio vertebralis, but the amplitude gradually recovered once the manipulations were halted. The latency showed small variation throughout the operations. This evidence suggests that intraoperative SEP monitoring may provide continuous and instantaneous information regarding the functional integrity of the central nervous system.  相似文献

Mutations of Fas (CD95/Apo-1) gene have been reported in various malignancies and therefore the Fas gene has been considered to be a tumor suppressor gene. To examine an involvement of Fas gene as a tumor suppressor gene in radiation lymphomagenesis, we examined the loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in lymphomas from (MSM/Ms x MRL-MpJ/Fas (lpr)) F(1) and (BALB/cHeA x MRL-MpJ/Fas (lpr)) F(1) hybrid mice. Lymphoma development by X-irradiation was efficiently observed in both F(1) hybrids. Frequent LOH was found on chromosomes 12 and 4 in the tumors from both F(1) mice, but no allelic loss on chromosome 19 containing Fas locus was found, and no wild-type allele of the Fas gene was lost in 51 lymphomas. Therefore, the putative tumor-suppressor gene regions responsible for lymphomagenesis might not considerably differ due to the Fas gene status.  相似文献

Plants naturally infected with Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) were collected and analyzed by electrophoresis of the replicative form of dsRNA and by Northern blot hybridization using CMV RNA-specific probes. Some of the CMV-infected plants, especially winter crops, contained two kinds of RNA 1 segments or RNA 2 segments (or both), suggesting that mixed infections of CMV occurred naturally. Single-aphid-transmitted isolates (SATIs) from the field isolate containing two RNA 1 segments were grouped into three types by the electrophoretic mobility of RNA 1 (i.e., those containing one slow segment, those containing one fast segment, and those containing both). Furthermore, SATIs and single-lesion isolates, generated from the plants inoculated with a mixture of two CMV isolates that could be differentiated by their electrophoretic dsRNA profiles, were analyzed by dsRNA, indicating that nonparental progenies were observed. These results suggested that genetic reassortment of CMV RNA may occur in nature and that this is an important mechanism in CMV evolution.  相似文献

Japanese acid earth was discovered about fifty years ago, in Niigata Prefecture. The properties of this earth resemble those of Fuller's Earth showing distinct acid reaction; it is believed that it consists of montmorillonite or beidellite.1, 2, 3) The author took samples from lmai, Niigata Prefecture and studied the chemical properties and clay mineral composition of the acid earth. The soil profile of the spot where the samples were taken is shown in Fig. 1. It consists of 12 layers, but the top 7 layers are alluvial deposits unconformably covering the acid earth. The lower earth deposits are divided into 5 layers viz., G1 G2 , H1, H2 and the parent rock P. This mother rock is estimated to be liparitic tuff or glassy liparite by microscopic and macroscopic investigation.  相似文献

The effects of salinity on haemolymph osmolality, oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion were investigated in adult kuruma shrimp, Marsupenaeus japonicus (Bate), at salinities of 20, 25, 30 and 35 g L?1. Haemolymph osmolality showed a positive linear relationship (r2=0.9854) with medium osmolality. The isosmotic point calculated from this relationship was 1039 mOsm kg?1, which corresponds to a salinity of approximately 35 g L?1. The slope of the regression equation was very high (0.81), suggesting that M. japonicus adults are poor osmoregulators compared with the adults of other penaeids and to conspecific young. The difference between haemolymph and medium osmolality (DOP) was lowest at 35 g L?1 and highest at 20 g L?1. Thus, the minimum DOP coincided with the isosmotic point of the shrimp. The respiration rate was significantly lower at 30 g L?1 than at the other salinities. Ammonia excretion rates were inversely related with salinity and therefore were minimal at 35 g L?1. The results of this study suggest that the optimum salinity for adult kuruma shrimp is around 30–35 g L?1 and that even minor (e.g. 5 g L?1) deviations from this optimum cause significant physiological changes. Further, the observed increases in oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion during exposure to low salinities, which indicate higher energy expenditure and amino acid catabolism for osmoregulation, respectively, suggest that the growth efficiency of M. japonicus adults may be severely compromised by hypohaline water inflow into the rearing ponds.  相似文献

The adoption of an upright posture in abalones is essential to enable them to use their foot, and hence to be able to move and seek shelter, as well as to avoid exposure of soft parts and possible predation. In mass restocking programs for abalone, juveniles are released by divers near the seabed, but without control over their posture when they reach the bottom. Thus, the time to recover the upright posture is an important consideration in abalone restocking programs as the quicker they assume this posture the higher the likelihood of survival. This study reports significant differences in the speed of recovering the upright posture between juveniles of the abalones Haliotis discus discus, H. gigantea and H. madaka and between tests conducted under stagnant and flowing water conditions. Longer times were required for recovery in all species in stagnant than flowing water. On average, juveniles of H. discus discus (17.16 and 10.43 s) and H. gigantea (22.54 and 11.89 s) recovered faster than those of H. madaka (161.13 and 49.02 s) under stagnant and flowing water conditions respectively. These results suggest that different species require different levels of care and that water flow or current at the time of release may affect post‐release survival.  相似文献

A near isogenic line, T65-LH7 bred from a rice variety, Ketan Nangka by five times of successive backcrossing with Taichung 65 (T65) as recurrent parent was found to carry a recessive lateness gene tentatively designated as ef6(t). The present study was performed to investigate the allelic relationships between ef6(t) and other heading time genes, Ef1, Efx, ef2(t), ef3(t), ef4(t) and ef5 by allelism test and to locate the chromosomal location of ef6(t) by trisomic analysis. In allelism test, six testers carrying each of heading time genes, Ef1, Efx, ef2(t), ef3(t), ef4(t) and ef5 were used. Those testers were the near isogenic lines of T65. T65-LH7 was crossed with respective testers. Heading times in F2 and/or B1F1 plants were examined. All F2 and/or B1F1 populations derived from those crosses exhibited digenic segregations, respectively. These results suggested that ef6(t) was independent of Ef1, Efx, ef2(t), ef3(t), ef4(t) and ef5. Sub sequently, trisomic analysis of ef6(t) was performed using seven Triplo lines having extra chromosomes, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12. These Triplo lines were the near isogenic lines of T65. They were used as maternal parent to cross with T65-LH7. Heading times in F2 plants obtained from self-pollination of F1 plants were observed. Among F2 plants examined only those derived from a cross between Triplo-7 and T65-LH7 showed a typical trisomic segregation manner, suggesting that ef6(t) was located on chromosome 7. Consequently, the nomenclature of the present gene should be designated as ef6.  相似文献

Summary The shoot tips of Chrysanthemum morifolium (syn. Dendranthema grandiflorum) and related species native to Japan were cryopreserved using preculture for 2 days, slow cooling (0.2°C/min) until –40°C with 10% dimethyl sulphoxide and 3% glucose prior to immersion into LN2 and rapid thawing. High survival rates were observed in 3 cultivars of chrysanthemum, 12 species and 2 interspecific hybrids, and slightly low survival rates in 3 species. The shoot regeneration rates of the frozen shoot tips varied from 9.4 to 100% depending on species. Shoot tips of chrysanthemum showed high viability even after a storage of 8 months in LN2.
