The purpoase of this research was to test the effects of three culture densities on the growth and survival of Octopus vulgaris. A total of 141 sub-adult octopuses (1,175.4 ± 194.9 g) were randomly distributed in nine tanks of 2,000 l each (3.6 m × 1.1 m,
and 50 cm water depth). Three tanks were stocked with a low initial density of 4 kg/m3, while three other tanks were stocked with an initial density of 8 kg/m3, and the remaining three tanks were stocked at an initial density of 15 kg/m3. Octopuses were all fed frozen squid (Loligo gahi) at 5% body weight per day (%BW/day). The experiment lasted for 70 days. Water temperature varied between 20 ± 2°C, and salinity
varied between 36 ± 1 ppt. During the entire experiment, dissolved oxygen was always >75%, and ammonia was always lower than
0.1 mg/l. No differences in growth or growth rates (between 0.9 and 1.1%BW/day for the three densities) were found. Nevertheless,
mortality was significantly lower for the low density compared to the other two densities tested. Maximum densities in the

Betanodavirus reassortant strains (RGNNV/SJNNV) isolated from Senegalese sole harbour an SJNNV capsid featuring several changes with respect to the SJNNV‐type strain, sharing three hallmark substitutions. Here, we have employed recombinant strains harbouring mutations in these positions (r20 and r20 + 247 + 270) and have demonstrated that the three substitutions affect different steps of the viral replication process. Adsorption ability and efficiency of viral attachment were only affected by substitutions in the C‐terminal side of the capsid. However, the concurrent mutation in the N‐terminal side seems to slightly decrease these properties, suggesting that this region could also be involved in viral binding. Differences in the intracellular and extracellular production of the mutant strains suggest that both the C‐terminal and N‐terminal regions of the capsid protein may be involved in the particle budding. Furthermore, viral replication in sole brain tissue of the mutant strains, and especially double‐ and triple‐mutant strains, is clearly delayed with respect to the wt strain. These data support previous findings indicating that the C‐terminal side plays a role in virulence because of a slower spread in the fish host brain and suggest that the concurrent participation of the N‐terminal side is also important for viral replication in vivo. 相似文献

Based on an extensive literature review on intelligent cities, smart cities, and happy cities, and on their conceptual connections with citizens' well‐being, quality of life, and happiness, we developed a resource‐based view on City Quality: the PESNAT (political, economic, social, natural, artificial, and technological) framework. The concept of City Quality rests on the idea of cities interconnected sub‐habitats—PESNAT—which are powerful analytical categories needed for understanding cities as complex and intricate loci. This framework eventually aims at assessing the cities' power to attract businesses and people, to contribute to a sustainable development of the city and an increased quality of life. Furthermore, two hypotheses are outlined regarding the level of importance of each sub‐habitat in relation to happiness, and the level of controversy of each one for citizens, city planners, and decision makers. 相似文献

In order to increase production of bivalves in hatcheries and nurseries, the development of new technology and its integration into commercial bivalve hatcheries is important. Recirculation aquaculture systems (RASs) have several advantages: high densities of the species can be cultured resulting in a cost-effective production system; optimal temperature maximizes production and allows rapid turnover of the product; stable water quality improves growth rate and minimizes stress and potential loss by diseases. Pilot RAS systems were developed for seed rearing of oysters (Crassostrea gigas), scallops (Pecten maximus), mussels (Mytilus edulis) and clams (Ruditapes decussatus). Optimal feed addition and waste matrix were determined. Based on this, system flow rates were designed. Seed growth in the pilot RAS systems was compared at different renewal rates and with growth in flow-through systems (FTS). All four species can be reared in RAS and showed similar growth in RAS and in FTS or in RAS with a higher renewal rate. RAS can keep O2, nitrogen and pH within the desired range. Temperature was generally higher in RAS than in FTS, probably due to heat induced by the pump circulating the water. The supply of sufficient amount of food in combination with a desire to reduce the renewal rate calls for use of concentrated feed in RAS. 相似文献

Understanding and quantification of phosphorus (P) fluxes are key requirements for predictions of future forest ecosystems changes as well as for transferring lessons learned from natural ecosystems to croplands and plantations. This review summarizes and evaluates the recent knowledge on mechanisms, magnitude, and relevance by which dissolved and colloidal inorganic and organic P forms can be translocated within or exported from forest ecosystems. Attention is paid to hydrological pathways of P losses at the soil profile and landscape scales, and the subsequent influence of P on aquatic ecosystems. New (unpublished) data from the German Priority Program 1685 “Ecosystem Nutrition: Forest Strategies for limited Phosphorus Resources” were added to provide up‐to‐date flux‐based information. Nitrogen (N) additions increase the release of water‐transportable P forms. Most P found in percolates and pore waters belongs to the so‐called dissolved organic P (DOP) fractions, rich in orthophosphate‐monoesters and also containing some orthophosphate‐diesters. Total solution P concentrations range from ca. 1 to 400 µg P L?1, with large variations among forest stands. Recent sophisticated analyses revealed that large portions of the DOP in forest stream water can comprise natural nanoparticles and fine colloids which under extreme conditions may account for 40–100% of the P losses. Their translocation within preferential flow passes may be rapid, mediated by storm events. The potential total P loss through leaching into subsoils and with streams was found to be less than 50 mg P m?2 a?1, suggesting effects on ecosystems at centennial to millennium scale. All current data are based on selected snapshots only. Quantitative measurements of P fluxes in temperate forest systems are nearly absent in the literature, probably due to main research focus on the C and N cycles. Poplar cuttings (Populus x euroamericana) were planted in pots and grown in a greenhouse for four months with drip irrigation. Two nitrogen (N) doses of 60 and 120 kg nitrate (N-NO3?) ha?1 (labeling with 15N stable isotopes) were applied at one (time I), two (time II) and three months after of the plantation (time III). The aim of this study was to determine the N-fertilizer application method that resulted in optimal N-uptake by a short-rotation of poplar crop during first year of growth. Our data revealed that NUE (N use efficiency) was largest in the last part of the experiment. The larger development of those plants at this stage enabled the improved absorption and assimilation of N. Furthermore, 15N also revealed that supply of N at three months post-planting generated more biomass and increased the N reserves in the stem; a key factor for ensuring the optimum regrowth during the second year. 相似文献
