Bioremediation is a method of removing manganese from wastewaters, and many bacterial species with a role in manganese bioremediation have been identified over several decades. Using K medium with Mn(II), a bacterial consortium was obtained from water sample collected from a mine drainage in southeastern Brazil (Minas Gerais, Brazil), and the isolates were identified as Klebsiella oxytoca using both biochemical and 16S rRNA phylogenetic analysis. Among such isolates, sample SA8 was tested for its manganese removal capability during a week-long experiment in K medium amended with manganese sulfate. Growth of isolate SA8 produced an increase in pH concomitantly to Mn(II) removal, which was not observed in the abiotic control. Manganese removal occurred through oxidation as confirmed by reaction with leucoberbelin blue, and therefore, a new potential application for K. oxytoca in mine water bioremediation is proposed. 相似文献

From 1993 to 1996 three groups of potato genotypes were evaluated for resistance toErwinia spp.: (1) 31 interspecific diploid hybrids (28 resistant and three susceptible), (2) five hexaploid or pentaploid somatic hybrids ofSolanum tuberosum (tbr) ×S. brevidens (brd), and (3) eight cultivars. Two evaluation methods were applied: tuber point inoculation with eitherErwinia carotovora ssp.atroseptica (Eca) orE. chrysanthemi (Ech) to test tuber soft rot resistance and stem base inoculation with Eca to test blackleg resistance. Some resistant diploid hybrids and somatic hybrids oftbr × brd were superior to cultivars for both tuber and stem resistance. Tuber and stem resistance toErwinia spp. in the most resistant diploid hybrids were equal to the highly resistant somatic hybrids oftbr xbrd. Tuber resistance to Eca was highly correlated to tuber resistance to Ech (r=0.815***). In two years of evaluation for stem resistance, three diploid hybrids and a derivative of one of the somatic hybrids (USA M 264) failed to develop symptoms of blackleg following inoculation with Eca, Analyses of variance for tuber and stem resistance indicated significant effects of genotype, year and genotype × year interaction. A positive relationship between tuber and stem resistance toErwinia spp. has been found, however the genetic control of resistance in tuber and stem is partially independent. In the case of Eca the correlation coefficient was r = 0.725***. Therefore it should be possible to obtain resistant genotypes to both blackleg and tuber soft rot. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of environmental factors on the fatty acid profiles and physicochemical composition of Crassostrea gasar cultured in two locations with differences in salinity and precipitation gradients. The study period was divided into four seasonal divisions—the rainy–dry transition period, the dry season, dry–rainy transition and the rainy season. The salinity, pH and temperature were measured at each site during specimen collection. A total of 712 oyster samples were used for fatty acid profiling and physicochemical analysis. Salinity and precipitation were the environmental parameters that influenced the fatty acid profile and physicochemical characteristics of oysters. C. gasar exhibited excellent values of n3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (DHA, EPA and eicosatrienoic), with a predominance of these acids during periods of higher precipitation. Variations in precipitation and salinity resulted in significant differences in oyster nutritional characteristics. Oysters grown in Amazonian estuaries can be considered nutritious throughout the year, with better conditions during the rainy season. 相似文献

Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) juveniles were fed diets containing 13 g/kg total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) at different n‐3/n‐6 dietary ratios (0.2, 0.5, 0.8, 1.3 and 2.9) for 56 days, at 28°C. Subsequently, fish were submitted to a winter‐onset simulation (22°C) for 33 days. PUFA n‐3/n‐6 dietary ratios did not affect fish growth at either temperature. At 28°C, tilapia body fat composition increased with decreasing dietary PUFA n‐3/n‐6. Winter‐onset simulation significantly changed feed intake. The lowest dietary n‐3/n‐6 ratio resulted in the highest feed intake. At both temperatures, body concentrations of α‐linolenic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, eicosatrienoic acid and docosapentaenoic acid decreased as dietary n‐3/n‐6 decreased. Body concentrations of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5 n‐3) increased with decreasing concentrations of dietary EPA. The n‐6 fatty acids with the highest concentrations in tilapia bodies were linoleic acid and arachidonic acid (ARA, 20:4 n‐6). At 28°C, SREBP1 gene expression was upregulated in tilapia fed the lowest n‐3/n‐6 diet compared to tilapia fed the highest n‐3/n‐6 ratio diet. Our results demonstrate that a dietary PUFA of 13 g/kg, regardless of the n‐3/n‐6 ratio, can promote weight gains of 2.65 g/fish per day at 28°C and 2.35 g/fish per day at 22°C. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of thermal treatment methods, such as microwave cooking, steaming, and shallow pan-frying on fatty acids composition in northern pike fillets. All methods of thermal treatment increased fat content in the fillets. Microwave cooking decreased the proportion of saturated fatty acids and increased the proportion of total, n-3, and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids as compared with fresh fillets. Steam cooking did not affect the proportion of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids, whereas pan-frying significantly increased the proportion of monounsaturated and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. All cooked fillets, regardless of the thermal treatment used, had acceptable n–6/n–3 ratio; however, microwave cooking enabled fish products to obtain more beneficial n-6/n-3 ratio than frying. Due to high polyunsaturated fatty acids content and low n-6/n-3 ratio, microwave cooking may be recommended for preparing wild pike fillets in households. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the influence of the net cage system of fish culture on the composition, abundance and diversity of the zooplankton community. Comparisons were made between three collection points located near a group of 30 net cages, with individual volumes of approximately 4 m3 , containing newly hatched, young and adult Nile tilapia, positioned in an arm of the Furnas hydroelectric reservoir; point 1 was in the limnetic region and points 2 and 3 were upstream and downstream of the cages, respectively, near the bank. The sampling was carried out at all three points from July to December, 2005. The composition of the zooplankton community differed among the points analysed. The lowest diversity was recorded at point 1. Point 2, upstream of the cages, was characterized by greater species richness and higher density of organisms pertaining to the Rotifera group. The results of the study suggest that variations in the composition and abundance of Rotifera and Cladocera are a consequence of the impact of net cage fish culture, although the magnitude of the variations is small. 相似文献
