In this study emissions of N2O from arable soils are summarized using data from long‐term N2O monitoring experiments. The field experiments were conducted at six sites in Germany between 1992 and 1997. The annual N‐application rate ranged from 0 to 350 kg N ha—1. Mineral and organic N‐fertilizer applications were temporarily split adapted to the growth stage of each crop. N‐fertilizer input and N‐yield by the crops were used to calculate the In/Out‐balance. The closed chamber technique was applied to monitor the N2O fluxes from soil into the atmosphere. If possible, plants were included in the covers. Annual N2O emission values were based on flux rate measurements of an entire year. The annual N2O losses ranged from 0.53 to 16.78 kg N2O‐N ha—1 with higher N2O emissions from organically fertilized plots as compared to minerally fertilized plots. Approximately 50% of the total annual emissions occurred during winter. No significant relationship between annual N2O emissions and the respective N‐fertilization rate was found. This was attributed to site‐ and crop‐specific effects on N2O emission. The calculation of the N2O emission per unit N‐yield from winter cereal plots indicates that the site effect on N2O emission is more important than the effect of N‐fertilization. From unfertilized soils at the sites Braunschweig and Timmerlah a N‐yield of 60.0 kg N ha—1 a—1 and N2O emissions of 2 kg N ha—1 a—1 were measured. This high background emission was assigned to the amount and turnover of soil organic matter. For a crop rotation at the sites Braunschweig and Timmerlah the N In/Out‐balance over a period of four years was identified as a suitable predictor of N2O emissions. This parameter characterizes the efficiency of N‐fertilization for crop production and allows for N‐mineralization from the soil.  相似文献

Secondary reactions occurring in pyrite‒containing sediments under aerobic conditions are complex and are not fully understood. Objectives were to (i) study the formation of secondary minerals using x‒ray diffraction (XRD) and ion activity product (IAP) calculations; (ii) to obtain a budget of acidity producing and consuming processes; and (iii) to study the performance of a chemical equilibrium model (including kinetic reactions) using sequential batch experiments with varying input solutions on samples of different pyrite oxidation states. A sediment sample from the open pit coal mine Garzweiler, Germany, was oxidised in the laboratory to obtain four different pyrite oxidation states. Sequential batch experiments were carried out using H2O, 100 mM CaCl2 and 10 mM NaOH as input solutions. A coupled equilibria model was used to describe the experiments. The model (PHREEQC) included inorganic complexation, redox reactions, precipitation/dissolution of sparingly soluble salts, multiple cation exchange and pyrite oxidation using a simple input function. IAP calculations and XRD showed the formation of large amounts of gypsum with increasing pyrite oxidation and for the highly oxidised sample also the formation of hydroniumjarosite. The budget of acidity consuming processes followed the order (i) release of Fe(III) into the solution phase (51% of produced acidity); (ii) Al release into solution and exchangeable phases (probably mainly due to silicate weathering, 22% of produced acidity); and (iii) CEC reducing processes (11% of produced acidity). Modeling of the sequential equilibration experiments with water and CaCl2 gave satisfactory agreements between modeled and measured pH and sorption values, indicating that the main processes governing pH and ion sorption were quite well understood. However, model results of the alkaline additions at larger pyrite oxidation states differed considerably from the experimental results.  相似文献

Primary minerals of the parent material undergo weathering during the formation of terrestrial soils to varying extent. As a result, secondary minerals develop, which comprise, among many others, hydroxy‐interlayered minerals (HIMs). These minerals have formed by interlayering of hydroxy‐metal complexes (especially of Al3+, also Mg2+, Fe2+/3+) into micas, expansible 2:1 phyllosilicates and forming oligomers, or by weathering of primary chlorite. The degree of interlayer filling and the stability of these fillings affect several physico‐chemical soil properties, for instance the cation exchange capacity. Although many studies have been conducted on formation, occurrence, and properties of HIMs in soil during the last decades, several challenges still exist. These challenges include analytical identification and quantification of HIMs in soil, the nature of the interlayer filling and the identification of favorable conditions in soil for the formation of HIMs. In order to deepen the understanding of formation, properties, and fate of HIMs in soil, we critically reviewed the available literature. Based on the review, we recommend using a new structural model that enables quantification of hydroxy‐interlayered smectite in soil by X‐ray diffractometry, laboratory experiments on the formation and preservation of different types of interlayers and considering the temporal and spatial dimension of the formation of HIMs in soil in more detail.  相似文献

Populations of the housefly Musca domestica isolated from farms in different German districts with strong resistance problems were compared to laboratory strains with varying resistance spectra. Resistance against pyrethroids, organophosphates and carbamates was tested using impregnated filter papers, and by topical application using a susceptible housefly strain (origin WHO) for comparison. The multi-resistant fly strains tested had a strong resistance against these insecticide groups, ranging from 37- to >10000-fold for organophosphates and 150- to >6600-fold for pyrethroids. The constituent enantiomer pairs of the α-cyano-pyrethroid cyfluthrin were tested, as was beta-cyfluthrin. With respect to multi-resistant fly strains, the isomers II and IV had the best activity, with LD50 values of 0·012 and 0·014 μg per fly, respectively. In addition, different groups of insect growth regulators (juvenile hormone analogues, chitin synthesis inhibitors and one triazine derivative) were tested in a special larvicidal test. The chitin synthesis inhibitors were quite effective against multi-resistant M. domestica strains except for one strain with strong resistance against chitin synthesis inhibitors, developed after extensive treatments with benzoylphenylureas for several years. The fly strains tested were not resistant against cyromazine. Additionally, the insecticides were combined with the synergists piperonyl butoxide, tributylphosphorotrithioate (DEF) and Cibacron blue and tested against the fly strain with the strongest resistance spectrum (‘Grimm’) in comparison to the susceptible strain (‘WHO-N’). Piperonyl butoxide had the greatest effect on the efficacy of cyfluthrin followed by Cibacron blue and DEF. In a parallel investigation with susceptible and resistant house fly strains, different enzyme activities related with resistance mechanisms were tested, e.g. glutathione S-transferase (3·5-fold) and mixed-function oxidase (2·3-fold). Implications of these results for management of insecticide resistance in M. domestica are discussed.  相似文献

Sap flux density was measured continuously during the 1999 and 2000 growing seasons by the heat dissipation method in natural Fagus crenata Blume (Japanese beech) forests growing between 550 and 1600 m on the northern slope of the Kagura Peak of the Naeba Mountains, Japan. Sap flux density decreased radially toward the inner xylem and the decrease was best expressed in relation to the number of annual rings from the cambium, or in relation to the relative depth between the cambium and the trunk center, rather than as a function of absolute depth. The relative influences of radiation, vapor pressure deficit and soil water on sap flux density during the growing season were similar for the outer and inner xylem, and at all sites. Measurements of soil water content and water potential at a depth of 0.25 m demonstrated that sap flux density responded similarly and sensitively to water potential changes in this soil layer, despite large differences in rooting depth at different elevations, localizing one important control point in the functioning of this forest ecosystem. Identification of the relative influences of radiation, vapor pressure deficit and drying of the upper soil layer on sap flux density provides a framework for in-depth analysis of the control of transpiration in Japanese beech forests. In addition, the finding that the same general controls are operating on sap flux density despite climate gradients and large differences in overall forest stand structure will enhance understanding of water use by forests along elevation gradients.  相似文献

Microsatellites (SSRs) were surveyed to detect somatic mutations caused by chronic irradiation in Pinus sylvestris from Chernobyl (Ukraine). The analysed trees grow close to the exploded nuclear power plant. They survived the accident, but show morphological anomalies and reduced growth and vitality. Ionising radiation is a known mutagen which causes double-strand breaks of DNA in all living organisms. Using six SSR markers, one tree was found in which a mutation (deletion) was detected at the gene locus SPAG 7.14.  相似文献
