Purpose  

The effects of the addition of an acidic fertilizer solution and/or slaked lime (5.5 g Ca(OH)2 kg−1) on a slightly acidic shooting range soil (pH 6.1, % organic carbon 5.4) with moderate metal (e.g., 620 mg kg−1 Pb) and metalloid (17 mg kg−1 Sb) concentrations on metal and Sb solubility and plant accumulation were investigated.  相似文献

Here we outline the development of the first automated procedure for measuring soil microbial biomass carbon (biomass C) by Fumigation-Extraction (FE) and on which this Citation Classic is based. The method (and its later variations) has been used widely since it was published. It gives essentially the same results as the Fumigation-Incubation (FI) method on which it was based and which it has now largely replaced. Analysis of the current data clearly showed that the calibration value to convert extracted organic C to biomass C (kEC = 0.45) using FE is still valid and that there was no need for a change. We also review some of the previous discussions about the method and outline future prospects for microbial biomass measurements in soil microbial ecology.  相似文献

The plant nutrient phosphorus (P) is spread throughout the plant within the transpiration stream after uptake in the form of phosphate via the roots. Short‐term distribution is therefore strongly dependent on transpiration rather than on sinks, so that P mainly enters adult leaves. The objective of this work was to investigate the transport of phosphate in leaf veins and its distribution within the leaf. Experiments were performed with broad bean (Vicia faba L. var. Scirocco) using radioactively labeled phosphate. In a relatively new approach, the tracer was monitored by a sensitive imaging plate using Fujifilm's Bioimaging Analyzer System. Radioactive label could be monitored in fresh leaves (without fixing) using exposure times of only 5–20 min. For this reason, the method offered the possibility to obtain several subsequent autoradiographic images of the same sample after different feeding times. Phosphate tracer quickly reached small veins, which were then more intensely labeled than the tissue between them. Within the first 15 min, intercostal fields were only slightly stained. After application of phosphate tracer onto the leaf blade, export from the leaf was pronounced and started within 30 min. Phosphorus is effectively redistributed from adult leaves to sinks such as the terminal bud or growing root tips. Using the imaging method, an impression of the high velocity and effectiveness of this process was obtained. The results furthermore imply that leaf veins may be one of the most important locations where exchange between xylem and phloem transport takes place, although exchange between xylem and phloem was also observed in the shoot axis and in the petioles.  相似文献

Stylosanthes Sw. is considered one of the economically most important tropical forage legumes. The genus is essentially Neotropical, and Brazil, Venezuela and Mesoamerica are the main centres of species diversification. In view of its importance, an extensive review of Venezuelan Stylosanthes genetic resources was carried out. Firstly, the known natural distributions of all 11 species based on herbarium specimens were georeferenced and mapped and, by comparing them with information of germplasm (=seed) collection site distributions, for each species regions were identified which in terms of collecting and safeguarding genetic resources of Stylosanthes had not been explored yet. Secondly, the actual status of the Stylosanthes collection in Venezuela in terms of collected seed samples and available germplasm is discussed, as is the need for further explorations, including targeting ecologically important locations. Finally, the different Stylosanthes species in Venezuela are grouped according to their perceived agronomic value and potential as forage for animal production systems, and recommendations are given regarding research, collection and preservation needs. Overall, this study compiled baseline information for future considerations of an important genetic resource in Venezuela. The endangerment of the three endemic species, Stylosanthes falconensis Calles et Schultze-Kr., Stylosanthes sericeiceps S.F. Blake and Stylosanthes venezuelensis Calles et Schultze-Kr. should be a major concern and warrants priority considerations for preservation.  相似文献

We report the deterministic creation of maximally entangled three-qubit states-specifically the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state and the W state-with a trapped-ion quantum computer. We read out one of the qubits selectively and show how GHZ and W states are affected by this local measurement. Additionally, we demonstrate conditional operations controlled by the results from reading out one qubit. Tripartite entanglement is deterministically transformed into bipartite entanglement by local operations only. These operations are the measurement of one qubit of a GHZ state in a rotated basis and, conditioned on this measurement result, the application of single-qubit rotations.  相似文献

Effect of pore water pressure on tensile strength Direct tensile testing with measurements of the pore water suction was used to investigate the relationship between tensile strength and suction. The tests were conducted on a till and a clayey soil, both homogenized. A closer view is focused on the relationship between material strain and the development of suction. Beyond, the factor χ of the effective stress equation for unsaturated soils by Bishop (1959), which was calculated by the data of tensile strength and corresponding matric suction is compared to the volumetric χ of the tested soil specimens. It could be shown, that the pore water pressure changes with strain. Therefore, not the initial suction of a soil is relevant for its failure but the actual one that can be measured in the failure zone at the moment of fracture. In addition the application of the volumetric χ in the effective stress equation compared to the χ derived from tensile testing leads to an 1.6 to 2.8 fold overestimation of the contribution of matric suction to soil tensile strength.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to give an overview of the structural diversity of terpenes from marine-derived fungi, highlighting individual examples of chemical structures and placing them in a context of other terpenes of fungal origin. We report on diurnal and seasonal variations in sap flow rate and stem water potential of Fraxinus excelsior L. saplings growing at the edge of a Fraxino-Aceretum forest in western Germany. Because of shallow soil, the trees were subjected to drought in summer. When soil water availability was not limiting, sap flow rate was related to changes in solar radiation and vapor pressure deficit. Maximum transpiration rates per leaf area were 3.5-7.4 mmol m-2 s-1, and maximum daily totals were 1.7-3.3 kg m-2 day-1. Under drought conditions, stem water potential dropped to midday minima of -2.6 to -3.5 MPa and sap flow rate was strongly related to this parameter. After the drought period, reduced apparent (whole-plant) hydraulic conductance was observed, which was attributed to a continued reduction in stomatal conductance after the drought stress had ceased. A model was developed that linked sap flow rate directly to climatic variables and stem water potential. Good correlation between measured and simulated sap flow rates allowed the model to be used for data interpretation.  相似文献

Hydrochars and biochars are products of the carbonization of biomass in different conversion processes. Both are considered suitable soil amendments, though they differ greatly in chemical and physical composition (e.g., aromaticity, inner surface area) due to the different production processes (pyrolysis, hydrothermal carbonization), thus affecting their degradability in soil. Depending on the type, char application may provide soil microorganisms with more (hydrochars) or less (biochars) accessible C sources, thus resulting in the incorporation of nitrogen (N) into microbial biomass. A soil‐incubation experiment was conducted for 8 weeks to determine the relationship between mineral‐N concentration in the soil solution and microbial‐biomass development as well as soil respiration. An arable topsoil was amended with two hydrochars from feedstocks with different total N contents. Biochars from the same feedstocks were used for comparison. Both char amendments significantly decreased mineral‐N concentration and promoted microbial biomass compared to the nonamended control, but the effects were much stronger for hydrochar. Hydrochar application increased soil respiration significantly during the first week of incubation, simultaneous with the strongest decrease in mineral‐N concentration in the soil and an increase in microbial biomass. The amount of N detected in the microbial biomass in the hydrochar treatments accounted for the mineral N “lost” from the soil during incubation. This shows that microbial immobilization is the main sink for decreasing mineral‐N concentrations after hydrochar application. However, this does not apply to biochar, since the amount of N recovered in microorganisms was much lower than the decrease in soil mineral‐N concentration. Our results demonstrate that while both chars are suitable soil amendments, their properties need to be considered to match the application purpose (C sequestration, organic fertilizer).  相似文献
