Four cultivars of strawberries (Senga Sengana, BFr77111, Elsanta, and Honeoye) were studied for their content of antioxidants, total antioxidant capacity, and low molecular weight carbohydrates in relation to harvest year, ripening stage, and cold storage. For ascorbic acid, chlorogenic acid, ellagic acid, and total antioxidative capacity, measured in both water-soluble and water-insoluble extracts, there was a 2-5-fold variation among cultivars. Unripe berries contained lower concentrations of chlorogenic acid and p-coumaric acid and also quercetin and kaempferol compared with riper berries. During cold storage for up to 3 days, relatively few changes in the concentration of the different antioxidants occurred. The concentrations of several investigated parameters were interrelated, for example, for ascorbic acid and water-soluble antioxidant capacity and for ellagic acid and water-insoluble antioxidant capacity. The dominating sugars in strawberries were fructose and glucose, but considerable amounts of sucrose were also present, and their contents varied among cultivars, giving a predicted glycemic index of approximately 81. Verbascose, raffinose, and stachyose were found in only minor amounts. The study shows that the concentration of a number of bioactive compounds in strawberries varied according to cultivar, ripening stage, and storage. This information should make it possible to select strawberries with an optimal content of bioactive compounds.  相似文献

The chemistry of precipitation in remote sites such as mountain tops is of interest in the study of atmospheric pollution and acid rain. The chemical composition measured at mountain site which is away from industrial and urban areas is useful as a reference level and it allows to determine the extent of anthropogenic contamination. Hence, rain water samples were collected at Sinhagad (18°21N, 73°45E, 1450 m asl during the monsoon season (June-September) of 1992 and were analysed for major ions. The precipitation samples collected at Sinhagad were alkaline in nature and pH values ranged between 5.9 to 6.76. The ionic composition was dominated by soil dust The concentration of Ca2+ was highest among all the ions. The concentrations of excess SO3 2– and NO4 were small (23.8 and 15.2 eq l–1 respectively) compared to the values of polluted regions in India. The correlation coefficient between the ions and pH values was calculated and it was found to be maximum in case of Ca2+. Precipitation samples collected at Sinhagad were alkaline owing to higher concentration of Ca2+ and lower levels of acidic pollutants (SO4 2– and NO3 ).  相似文献

Rain water samples were regularly collected from three sites, namely, Netaji Nagar, Moti Nagar and Town Hall within the Delhi city area from July, 1980 to June, 1982. The pesticide residues were adsorbed on polyurethane foam coated with 0.5 % DC-200 and subsequently extracted and analyzed for DDT, HCH and their metabolites/isomers. The concentration of total DDT ranged from 0.22 to 108 μg L?1 with a mean value of 12.5 μg L?1. The samples of rain water contained varying levels of 4,4-DDT, 2,4-DDT, 4,4-DDE, and 4,4-DDD. The 4,4-DDT, 4,4-DDE and 2,4-DDT were the main components of total DDT. The range of HCH residues in rain water was from 0.08 to 43 μg L?1 with a mean of 5.3 μg L?1. The residues of HCH consisted mainly of α- and γ-isomers with traces of β and δ-isomers. The α- and γ-isomers accounted for 76 and 24% of total HCH, respectively. The concentrations of DDT and HCH in rain water were generally less than 10 μg L?1 and exceeded 10 in only 4 and 3 cases, respectively. The residues of these insecticides were generally higher during October to December. Residues of DDT were higher at Moti Nagar which is near a DDT factory. Residues of HCH were maximum at Town Hall, a commercial area of the city.  相似文献

Passive cutaneous anaphylaxis was produced in chickens with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and anti-BSA chicken serum. Colloidal carbon was then given intravenously to identify the leaky vessels. Examination of the resulting sequential changes revealed a marked increase in vascular permeability affecting the venules. A noteworthy feature of the reaction was the early participation of the basophils, which contained phagocytosed carbon particles. Eosinophils were absent.  相似文献

The extensive zero-water exchange shrimp farming system in the periphery of Chilka lagoon (Orissa, India) was studied. The study aimed to describe this unique farming system with special reference to dynamics of macrozoobenthos, production characteristics and economics. The study conducted was based on a general survey as well as monitoring of five individual farms over a complete production cycle. The farming practice in this area is characterized by complete absence of water exchange during rearing. Ponds in this area are generally shallow (mean 72 cm). Most of the water and soil quality characteristics of these farms are within acceptable levels. Macrozoobenthos belonging to 12 taxa were collected, amphipods (81%) and polychaetes (13%) being most numerous. Overall macrobenthic density of farms studied varied from 968 to 11,470 individuals/m2 with a gross mean of 5644 individuals/m2. There was no general pattern to the variation in abundance of various taxa in different phases of the rearing cycle, suggesting a low predatory pressure by shrimp in the farms studied. Shrimp production was highly variable (91–250 kg/ha), but generally low with a mean of 145 kg/ha. The net income of these farms was estimated to be Rs. 63,250 per crop per ha. Compared with shrimp farming system with regular water exchange in the same area, Chilka farms generated high benefit-cost ratio indicating high profitability and sustainability.  相似文献
