Four one‐week growth trials were conducted on green sturgeon fry to determine the effect of feeding rate on their growth performance at 18 °C when they were fed a salmonid soft moist feeds containing 445–457 g kg?1 of crude protein and 201–207 g kg?1 of lipid. The fry used in Trials I‐IV were 5–8 weeks after their initiation of exogenous feeding. Their average initial body weights were 1.63 ± 0.01, 2.63 ± 0.03, 5.08 ± 0.08 and 7.49 ± 0.05 g, respectively. Six feeding rates used were as follows: 2.5–15.0% body weight per day (% BW day?1) with a 2.5% increment in Trial I; 1.25–7.50% BW day?1 with a 1.25% increment in Trial II; and 2.0–7.0% BW day?1 with a 1.0% increment in Trials III and IV. Four replicates with 50 fry per tank in Trials I‐III and 30 fry per tank in Trial IV were assigned randomly to each feeding rates. The final body weight, specific growth rate, feed efficiency, protein retention, and whole‐body moisture, lipid, and energy contents were significantly (P <0.05) affected by the feeding rates. The optimum feeding rates determined by the broken‐line model were 7.1, 5.7 and 5.3% BW day?1 for Trials I, II and IV, when the fry were 5, 6 and 8 weeks after their initiation of exogenous feeding, respectively. 相似文献
A number of N2-alkyl and N2-acyl derivatives of guanosine 5'-phosphate (GMP) have been synthesized and tested for their synergistic effect with monosodium L-glutamate (MSG), the prototypical substance imparting umami taste to savory-based foods. Capacities to enhance the taste intensity of MSG (gamma values) were estimated through subjective comparisons of MSG/nucleotide mixtures in water with appropriate solutions of MSG alone. Assuming beta = gamma[nucleotide]/gamma[IMP], beta values of the N2-substituted GMPs were found in the range 1.2-5.7. Such values appear to be related to the chain length of the substituent in the 2-position of the purine nucleus and dependent on the replacement of a CH 2 group with an S atom and/or with an alpha-CO group. These findings indicate that the exocyclic NHR group of the guanine moiety is actively implicated in the synergism between GMP derivatives and MSG. Theoretical calculations suggest that an anti conformation is probably assumed by ribonucleotide molecules interacting with umami receptors. 相似文献
The existence of black horizons (BHs) is often highlighted in European soils, and in the Po River plain of northern Italy. Nevertheless, BH chronological frameworks and genetic models are still debated. The present study investigated the genesis of BHs in the eastern Po Plain where they are buried at various depths.
Materials and methods
Soil sequences were investigated with a multidisciplinary approach integrating geomorphologic, stratigraphic, pedologic, geochemical, isotopic, palynological, and radiometric analyses.
Results and discussion
The formation of the studied BHs was scattered over time from the Last Glacial Maximum to at least the middle Holocene. The new data indicate that BHs developed when the landscape was dominated by coniferous forest during conditions that were totally different from the current pedoclimatic setting. The recurrent presence of black particles indicates that this vegetation cover was systematically affected by fire episodes that induced soil degradation and mineralization processes of the original organic compounds, thus contributing to darkening of the upper soil horizons.
Conclusions
BH formation clearly coincided with cold time lapses. Evidence for repeated fire events (natural or human-induced?) provides insights for the controversial debate on early anthropogenic impacts on the environment.
The objective of this study was to assess neural and behavioural responses in farmed African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) upon electrical stunning in combination with decapitation or chilling. To assess the possibility of scaling up one or both experimental methods, two trials were performed in an experimental setting. The product quality of the collected samples was compared with the currently applied industrial method: live chilling. After electrical stunning in combination with decapitation, the fish showed spikes alternated with theta and delta waves on the EEG, followed by minimal brain activity after 20±10 s. The same traces on the EEGs were observed after electrical stunning in combination with chilling. Here, minimal brain activity occurred after 22±11 s. Within a confidence level of 95%, the percentage of African catfish that was effectively stunned after administration of an electrical current of 1.5 A dm−2, 300 V (50 Hz a.c.), followed by decapitation or chilling was above 91%. The analysis yield and evolution of liquid loss showed significant (P<0.05) differences among the batches, which could be explained by the stunning method used. The course values of the pH in the different batches were significantly (P<0.05) dependent on the stunning method, sex and location (visceral or skin side). It is concluded that African catfish can be stunned effectively using electrical stunning in a water tank, followed by decapitation or chilling in ice. Dutch commercial processors prefer to combine electrical stunning with chilling in flake ice in a rotating tumbler, as the outer slime layer is then removed, which facilitates further processing. 相似文献
The objectives of this paper were (1) to provide general biometry data for an 80-year-old olive (Olea europea L., cv. Coratina) grove in Andria, southern Italy, and (2) to compare different methods for estimating leaf area distributions. Stand biometry was represented by a stocking density of 132 trees ha?1, mean spacing of 8.7 m and mean social area (proportional to spacing and tree size) of about 76 m2 per tree. Trunk total circumference averaged 110 cm and after subtraction of missing or dead parts of stems averaged 81 cm, projected area of crowns averaged 17.7 m2 and the mean tree height was 4.9 m. Leaf distribution was evaluated using calibrated ground-based side photographs through image analysis and through using a simple canopy-layer model (considering hollow volume within tree crowns) and double-Gaussian curves. The mean leaf size was about 5 cm2 (distributed in a log-normal manner over the range of 2 to 12 cm2). Considering whole tree crowns, the mean leaf density was about 2.6 m2m?3; the maximum leaf area occurred in canopy layers between 1.5 to 3 m, tailing with a steeper slope to the crown base and a less steep slope to the tree-top. The foliated volume of olive crowns (mean 33.2 m3) contained on average 145 thousand leaves of the total area of 72.6 m2. The corresponding leaf area index on the stand level (LAIgrove = 0.96), was rather low due to low stocking density. However when taking into account only the projected crown areas (and avoiding free space between trees), the mean LAI reached about 3.5 (range from 1–7). The radial pattern of leaf distribution derived from image analysis indicated peak LAIrad values at a distance from the stem of about 60 to 70% of crown radius in trees of different size. The applicability of different approaches to the estimation of the necessary allometric parameters is discussed. 相似文献
Dimorphandra jorgei MF Silva (Caesalpinaceae) and Swartzia macrostachya Benth. var. riedelii Cowan (Fabaceae) are tree species from the southern Bahian Atlantic Forest, identified for the restoration of degraded areas.
The objective of this research is to study their seed germination and seedling growth to develop simple methods for seedling
production in small scale nurseries. Because the species have distinct dormancy and germination characteristics, the seeds
were submitted to different treatments. D. jorgei seeds were immersed in hot water, scarified and stored for 12 weeks in the laboratory environment (25°C). S. macrostachya seeds were submitted to different combinations of drying and storage in the laboratory environment or refrigerator (4°C).
Seedlings were submitted to two light treatments for 3 months: partial shade (52% of full sun) and full shade (12% of full
sun). In D. jorgei, the highest germination occurred for scarified seeds (87%) and for seeds stored for 12 weeks and then scarified (69%). In
S. macrostachya the undried control seeds had the highest germination, followed by that of the refrigeration storage treatment, without predrying
(99% and 97%, respectively). The average values for the growth parameters were greater in full shade for D. jorgei, while S. macrostachya seedlings showed greater growth rates in partial shade. Two months growth is recommended before D. jorgei seedlings are of the sufficient size and leaf number for field planting. On the other hand, a period of 4 months is recommended
for S. macrostachya, due to its relatively slow growth. 相似文献
The essential oil obtained from the seeds of Momordica charantia was analyzed by GC/MS. Twenty-five components, representing 90.9% of the oil, were identified. The main constituents were trans-nerolidol, apiole, cis-dihydrocarveol and germacrene D. Furthermore, the oil was tested for its antibacterial and antifungal activities. Staphylococcus aureus was found to be the most sensitive microorganism with MIC values <500 microg/ml. 相似文献
