The blood pressure of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) decreased after oral administration of an extract prepared from chicken breast muscle, falling maximally to 50 mmHg lower than before. This effect continued for at least 4 h after administration. The peptides possessing hypotensive activity in the chicken extract were examined by measuring the inhibitory activity (IC(50)) against angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE). The inhibitory activity of the chicken extract was 1060 mg%, whereas the activity of the extract treated with an Aspergillus protease and gastric proteases (trypsin, chymotrypsin, and intestinal juice) became stronger, reaching 1.1 mg%. Peptides in this hydrolysate of the extract were isolated by HPLC on a reversed-phase column, and their N-terminal sequences were analyzed. Three peptides possessed a common sequence, Gly-X-X-Gly-X-X-Gly-X-X, which was homologous with that of collagen. The peptide Gly-Phe-Hyp-Gly-Thr-Hyp-Gly-Leu-Hyp-Gly-Phe showed the strongest inhibitory activity (IC(50) = 42 microM). 相似文献

A 6-month-old female Border Collie was examined because of a 1-month history of progressive curvature of the cervical portion of the vertebral column. Radiography revealed severe cervical and thoracic scoliosis. Cervical syringomyelia and hydrocephalus were observed by means of magnetic resonance imaging. Suboccipital craniotomy and laminectomy of the first cervical vertebra were performed, and substantial improvement in the scoliosis and syringomyelia was observed 3 months after surgery. Multigenic glutelins and monogenic globulin are major storage proteins accumulating in vacuole-derived protein body (PB-II) of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds. Because their interplay in PB-II formation was scarcely known, the effect of globulin-less mutation on glutelin accumulation was investigated. In globulin-less mutants, no phenotypic defect was found in seed and plant growth, while PB-II was deformed and apparent glutelin composition was changed, producing new glutelin α polypeptides X1–X5. 2D-PAGE of different combinations of globulin-less and glutelin subunit mutations suggested that the X1/X2, X3, and X4/X5 were derived from glutelin GluB1/GluB2/GluB4, GluA3, and GluA1/GluA2 subunits, respectively. Western blot with glutelin GluB4 subunit-specific and its variable region discriminable antibodies indicated at least in part the new spots X1/X2 are partially degraded products of GluB4 α polypeptides by the removal of 2–39 residues from C-terminus. Time course experiments with maturing seeds indicated the partial degradation of GluB4 occurred earlier (from 7 days after flowering) and higher than that of GluA1/GluA2. Considering the above results together with the fact that globulin accumulates at the periphery of PB-II and its absence produces deformed PB-II, globulin protects glutelins from proteinase digestion and thereby facilitates stable glutelin accumulation. 相似文献

A transient increase in apoptotic polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) as revealed by the terminal deoxynucleotidyl, transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) technique in bovine jugular and milk vein blood was observed 4 h after intramammary infusion of Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (jugular vein; before infusion 10.1%, 4h 58.3%: milk vein; before infusion 13.2%, 4 h 76.6%) decrease in PMA-induced oxidative bursts of PMNs was also observed during the same period and continued until 8 h after the infusion. TUNEL-positive cells showed an intention of a Comet tail as detected by a single-cell gel electrophoresis assay (Comet assay) and the morphological apoptotic future, though DNA fragmentation was not clearly detected. A definite decrease in peripheral PMNs and a marked increase in PMNs in the LPS-infused teat cistern were observed during the same period. The migration of milk vein blood-derived PMN and the expression of adhesion receptors (L-selectin and CD18) on PMN were suppressed, accompanied by an increase in apoptotic cells. TUNEL-positive PMN observed in normal animals showed a reduced migration capacity. The increase in apoptotic PMNs observed in the LPS-infused cattle was thought to be due to the remaining intravenous spontaneous apoptotic cells existing under the normal condition (the aging cell), and this increase appeared to lower the expression of adhesion receptors and the migration capacity. Decreased PMA-induced oxidative burst activity in PMN was thought to be derived from these aging cells and immature band cells appearing in the circulation as a subsequent event of leukopenia and/or severe stress associated with mastitis. The results from the present study indicate the possibility that the function of PMN in the circulation at early stages of bovine mastitis is regulated by the kinetics of PMN aging. 相似文献

We report far-infrared and submillimeter observations of supernova 1987A, the star whose explosion was observed on 23 February 1987 in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a galaxy located 160,000 light years away. The observations reveal the presence of a population of cold dust grains radiating with a temperature of about 17 to 23 kelvin at a rate of about 220 times the luminosity of the Sun. The intensity and spectral energy distribution of the emission suggest a dust mass of about 0.4 to 0.7 times the mass of the Sun. The radiation must originate from the supernova ejecta and requires the efficient precipitation of all refractory material into dust. Our observations imply that supernovae can produce the large dust masses detected in young galaxies at very high redshifts. 相似文献

1. To evaluate the relative efficiency of energy utilisation of medium chain triglyceride (MCT) compared to long chain triglyceride (LCT), Single Comb White Leghorn 7-d-old male chicks were allocated into 4 experimental groups and one control of 5 birds per group. The chicks in the control group (Group 1) were given 5 g basal diet each day for 10 d. The birds in groups 2 and 3 received 5 g basal diet/d supplemented with MCT to provide 33.5 kJ GE/d and 67.0 kJ GE/d, and those in groups 4 and 5 were supplemented with LCT at 31.9 kJ GE/d and 63.8 kJ GE/d, respectively. Energy retained as protein and fat, and total energy retentions were measured. 2. No significant differences were found in energy retention as protein between the four energy supplemented groups but significant differences in fat and total energy retentions were found between the different dietary energy contents but not between energy source. Net energy of MCT for production was calculated as 16.0 kJ/g which corresponds to about 74% of that of LCT (22.8 kJ/g). 相似文献
