Availability of Phosphate Reserves in Arable Soils - Long Term Field Experiments for Assessing Soil P Reserves and Critical Soil Test Values - The objective of this work is to quantify the plant availability of soil P reserves accumulated by former fertilizer applications, the possibility of utilizing them by arable field crops and to determine critical soil test values. For this purpose several long term field experiments with large plots without replicates were initiated in 1977 on luvisols from loess (pH 6.8 – 7.4) in Lower Saxony with a sugar beet - winter wheat - winter barley/winter wheat crop rotation. Annual P applications were 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 kg P2O5/ha as triple phosphate. Application of other fertilizers and plot management were according to farmer's practice. Despite of high yield levels phosphate response of plants was only 2 % at its maximum in the average of all crops in 15 years. This was confirmed by small plot experiments with four replicates placed into the large plots after 9 years, when soil P levels had been differentiated under the influence of plant P removal and P application. Herewith in agreement, shoot P concentration was found within the range generally regarded sufficient. It is therefore concluded that plant P demand has been fully satisfied by soil P reserves. Soil P test values, monitored by the P(H2O) method of Sissingh, decreased markedly in 15 years, when no P was applied, they remained approximately constant when P application was equal to P removal and they increased when P addition was higher than P removal. Plants on a site with 4 mg P(H2O)/L initially had severe P deficiency. Maximum yield was obtained when the soil P level was raised to 11 mg P(H2O)/L. It is concluded that P reserves, which are often high in German arable soils, can be utilized by field crops and thus be lowered to about 10 mg P(H2O)/L by reducing or omitting P dressings. For practical purposes it is suggested to restrict P application, if necessary at all, to the sugar beet crop in the rotation because they often respond more than small grain.  相似文献

A total of 26,220 foxes that were hunted or found dead in Thuringia, Germany, between 1990 and 2009 were examined for infection with Echinococcus multilocularis, the causative agent of human alveolar echinococcosis, and 6853 animals were found infected. The available data on the foxes including the location (local community; district) and the date of hunting/death were analyzed using a hierarchical Bayesian space-time model. The distribution of the model parameters and their variability was estimated on the basis of the sample size, the number of cases per spatial unit and time interval, and an adjacency matrix of the municipalities using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulation technique to assess the spatial and temporal changes in the distribution of the parasite. The model used to evaluate the data is widely applicable and can be applied to analyse data sets with gaps and variable sample sizes per spatial and temporal unit. In the study area, the prevalence of E. multilocularis increased from 11.9% (95% confidence interval 9.9-14.0%) in 1990 to 42.0% (39.1-44.1%) in 2005. While the infection was present in foxes only in the north-western parts of Thuringia in 1990, it had spread over the entire state by 2004. These results demand increased vigilance for human alveolar echinococcosis in Thuringia.  相似文献

European bat lyssaviruses (EBLVs) have been known to cross the species barrier from their native bat host to other terrestrial mammals. In this study, we have confirmed EBLV-1 and EBLV-2 susceptibility in sheep (Ovis ammon) following intracranial and peripheral (intramuscular) inoculation. Notably, mild clinical disease was observed in those exposed to virus via the intramuscular route. Following the intramuscular challenge, 75% of the animals infected with EBLV-1 and 100% of those that were challenged with EBLV-2 developed clinical signs of rabies and then recovered during the 94-day observation period. Disease pathogenesis also varied substantially between the two viruses. Infection with EBLV-1 resulted in peracute clinical signs, which are suggestive of motor neuron involvement. Antibody induction was observed and substantial inflammatrory infiltrate in the brain. In contrast, more antigen was detected in the EBLV-2-infected sheep brains but less inflammatory infiltrate and no virus neutralising antibody was evident. The latter involved a more protracted disease that was behaviour orientated. A high infectious dose was required to establish EBLV infection under experimental conditions (> or =5.0 logs/ml) but the infectious dose in field cases remains unknown. These data confirm that sheep are susceptible to infection with EBLV but that there is variability in pathogenesis including neuroinvasiveness that varies with the route of infection. This study suggests that inter-species animal-to-animal transmission of a bat variant of rabies virus to a terrestrial mammal host may be limited, and may not always result in fatal encephalitis.  相似文献

Patients suffering from coeliac disease have to avoid traditional cereals-based products and depend on the availability of gluten-free alternatives. The gluten-free bread matrix and its foam stability are strongly affected by the choice of ingredients. In this study, the impact of quinoa white flour on bread quality parameters, in particular volume, has been investigated. The pseudocereal proved to be a suitable substrate for dough aeration using yeast, since considerably more glucose and a higher activity of α-glucosidase were found in comparison to rice and corn flour. Consequently, quinoa white flour was used to replace 40–100% of the rice and corn flour in a gluten-free control recipe. As a result, quinoa white flour enhanced the specific volume by 33%, which was related to the absence of bran components and the increased α-glucosidase activity. The significance of the latter was proven by separately adding sucrose and fungal amyloglucosidase to the control recipe. Moreover, the crumb featured homogeneous and finely distributed gas bubbles and the taste was not compromised. Thus, it was possible to improve the quality of gluten-free bread by using quinoa white flour, which might be a relief for coeliac patients.  相似文献

Comparison of German and Swiss Rainfall Simulators - Influence of Rainfall Characteristics on Soil Surface Roughness Six different field rainfall simulators were compared. Soil surface roughness was tested by a simple field method before and after rainfall simulation. Preparation of the test site with a rotary cultivator inadvertently entailed spatial variability of roughness and aggregate size. Thus, the plots with finer seedbed showed higher runoff and soil loss. The relative decrease of roughness could best be correlated with the total kinetic energy as well as with the R factor of the different simulators (r = 0.87 resp. 0.91). Thus, the degree of soil surface leveling was shown to be due to the rainfall characteristics of the different simulator types. However, there was no relation between change of soil surface roughness and runoff. The relative classification of the kinetic energy of the rainfall simulators explained the leveling of the soil surface better than the classifications previously used in many studies (r = 0.91 as against r = 0.73).  相似文献

The heavy metal status of an industrial production site (about 40000 m2) in the Lahn valley (middle Hesse) was investigated. In the upper soil layer (0 - 1 m) Fe, Pb-, and Zn-contents were determined in 42 sampling points. High heavy metal contents (up to 45% Fe, 4% Zn, and 2,5% Pb) were discovered in certain topsoil samples. The geostatistical analysis suggested that a spatially limited accumulation of Pb and Zn together with iron exists in the southern and western part of the area, where a continual bog iron layer in the oxidized horizon of the local gleysols had been detected. The profile distribution of Fe, Pb, and Zn also revealed a close coexistency of these elements together with SO4 and other soluble salts in a distinct horizon. On the whole, no evidence was found for an industrial origin of the observed heavy metal accumulations. Since the base of the upper groundwater floor is formed by highly pyritic black shales, which obviously also contain Pb/Zn-ores, a geogenic heavy metal enrichment is proposed. The intense weathering of the black shales charges the groundwater with iron, heavy metals and sulfates. This salt load is deposited in the groundwaters capillary fringe forming a bog iron pan rich in heavy metals and soluble salts.  相似文献

A 2‐year field experiment and a pot experiment were carried out to compare Mn uptake, tillering, and plant growth of lowland rice grown under different soil water conditions in the ground‐cover rice‐production system (GCRPS) in Beijing, North China. The field experiment was conducted in 2001 and 2002, including two treatments: lowland‐rice variety (Oryza sativa L. spp. japonica) grown under thin (14 μm) plastic‐film soil cover (GCRPSplastic) at 80%–90% water‐holding capacity (WHC) and traditional lowland rice (paddy control) grown with 3 cm standing‐water table. The pot experiment was conducted in a greenhouse with four treatments: (1) traditional lowland rice: paddy control; (2) GCRPS, water‐saturated soil: GCRPSsaturated; (3) GCRPS at 90% water‐holding capacity (WHC): GCRPS90%WHC; and (4) GCRPS at 70% WHC: GCRPS70%WHC. Results of the field experiment showed that dry‐matter production, number of tillers, as well as N and Mn concentrations in rice shoots of GCRPS were significantly lower than in paddy control, while there was no significant difference in shoot Fe, Cu, Zn, and P concentration and nematode populations. In the pot experiment, shoot Mn concentration significantly decreased with decreasing soil water content, while soil redox potential increased. Shoot–dry matter production and tiller number of GCRPSsaturated were significantly higher than in other treatments. Significant correlations were observed between the shoot Mn concentration and tiller number at maximum tillering stage in the field and pot experiment, respectively. We therefore conclude that the limitation of Mn acquisition might contribute to the growth and yield reduction of lowland rice grown in GCRPS. The experiment provides evidence that GCRPSplastic combined with nearly water‐saturated soil conditions helps saving water and achieving optimum crop development without visual or latent Mn deficiency as observed under more aerobic conditions.  相似文献

Depth gradients of soil acidification In dystric Cambisols, developed from diabas and clay schist/greywacke in the Sösemulde (Harz), the depth gradient of the acid/base status has been assessed by measuring pH and the composition of exchangeable cations. After the soil in the root zone has acidified to within the aluminum buffer range, a marked acidification front is formed below the rooting zone. Strong acids (protons, Mn, Al ions) are buffered completely above the acidification front. Long-term measurements of the input and output of acids and bases in nine forest ecosystems in NW-Germany show that the acid input due to acid deposition into soil horizons in the Al- or Al/Fe- buffer range appears almost quantitatively as output in the seepage water from these horizons. The kind of acid responsible for the soil acidification can be identified by the anion composition of the seepage water. The deep reaching acidification is traced back to acid deposition.  相似文献

For organic potato producers, the two main challenges are disease and nutrient management. Both are limited by regulations that on the one hand prohibit the use of chemical fertilizers, especially nitrogen, and on the other hand prohibit most synthetic pesticides. Late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans is commonly thought to be the most yield-reducing factor. However, because there is no really effective fungicide available to control late blight, there are virtually no yield loss data available for organic farming conditions. In this paper, the state of the art of organic potato tuber growth under on-farm conditions with respect to disease and nutrient management is summarized by field trials and on-farm surveys on commercial organic crops carried out in the years 1995–1998. Soil nitrogen (N) levels, plant N uptake, disease development of P. infestans and potato yield were measured. Results indicated that N availability was most important in limiting yields in organic potato crops. From on-farm data, a model including disease development, growth duration of the crops until foliage decay and different parameters related to N status of the crop could explain 73% of the observed variation in yield. Only 25% of this variation in yield could be attributed to the influence of late blight. Differences in N availability explained 48%. In conclusion, several points emerged from the results. In organic farming, yields are mainly limited by nutrient availability in spring and early summer. The effects of late blight on yields may often be overestimated and cannot be deduced from results in conventional farming because of the strong interaction with nutrient status. Depending on N availability, tubers stop growing between mid-July (70–90 kg N ha−1 uptake), the end of July (110–140 kg N ha−1 uptake) and mid-August (140–180 kg N ha−1 uptake) due to N limitations. The higher the N status of a potato crop, the longer the growing period needed to achieve the attainable yield and the higher the probability that late blight stops further tuber growth and becomes the key tuber-yield-limiting factor. In the second part of this paper, the interactive effects of soil N availability and the impact of P. infestans on yield in the presence and absence of fungicides from 1996 to 1998 for mid-early main crops are reported. An empirical schematic model of disease impact depending on N availability was developed.  相似文献

Little scientific information on efficiency of different commercial biofertilizers restricts setup of further reproducible pot or field experiments and hence, provides lack of evidence of biofertilizer application in plant growth promotion and disease suppression. In the present experiment, efficiency of four commercial Trichoderma and one Bacillus biofertilizer was screened by a bio-indicator plant, cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) under controlled laboratory conditions. Inoculation of cucumber seeds with different commercial biofertilizers significantly increased the germination rates (ca. 20–25%) and stimulated other growth parameters. In seedling establishment test, biofertilizers inoculated cucumber seedlings showed significant higher root dry weight (ca. 32 to 96%), leaf area (ca. 60 to 140%), root length (ca. 30%) and shoot dry weight (ca. 88%) in two weeks culture period compare to that of the control. Additionally, in-vitro antagonistic activity against take-all pathogen (Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici, Ggt) in wheat and phosphate solubilizing activity was demonstrated for Trichoderma biofertilizer. However, in-vitro solubilization of Mn was not detected. The results suggested that the potential activity of different commercial biofertilizers could be easily screened within several days with the described rapid bio-test by increasing seed germination, and improving growth and growth related parameters of cucumber grown in nutrient solution under controlled culture system.  相似文献
