The effects of dietary protein‐energy levels on the growth rate, proximate composition and production were examined in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, at two starting weights (22.9 and 39.8 g) reared in concrete ponds for 180 days. The highest weight gain (183.1 g) was obtained with fish fed a 30% protein and 10.5 kJ g?1 diet for the small initial size and 180.2 g for a diet containing 25% protein and 12.6 kJ g?1 for the large initial size. Dressed yields (edible mass) and fillets increased to 56.9% and 52.5% in fish fed diet with 25% protein and 10.5 kJ g?1 at the initial size of 22.9 g, while fish started at 39.8 g exhibited the best values (56.5% and 52.1%) when fed the 30% protein and 10.5 kJ g?1 diet. Proximate composition of soft tissue (wet weight basis) in small fish was significantly influenced by dietary protein‐energy levels. Protein was 26.1±0.3% in fish fed the high protein (30%) and low energy (10.5 kJ g?1 diet), while lipid content was 6.4±0.3% at diet containing 20% protein and 14.7 kJ g?1 diet. Large initial size fish fed the diet with 25% protein and 14.7 kJ g?1 had the highest body protein (32.0±0.4%) and lowest lipid content (2.2±0.3%). Feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein efficiency ratio varied with different dietary protein‐energy levels and initial fish sizes. Feed conversion ratio increased with increasing protein and decreasing energy level in the diet, and values in small fish were higher than values in large fish. Protein efficiency ratio decreased with increasing dietary protein level and decreasing energy level. The maximum total production (7.6 tons feddan?1) was with dietary high protein (30%) and low energy (10.5 kJ g?1) for small‐sized fish, while large initial fish had the highest production (3.7 tons feddan?1) when fed the 25% protein and 12.6 kJ g?1 diet energy. Starting with 22.9 g fish was more advantageous than the initial size of 39.8 g for rearing Nile tilapia. Small fish required a high‐protein and low‐energy diet, whereas large fish required a low‐protein and high‐energy diet to achieve highest production.  相似文献

Surveys over three seasons of irrigation, drainage and artesian well water throughout the major potato-growing areas of Egypt indicated that Ralstonia solanacearum bv. 2 race 3 (phylotype II sequevar 1), cause of potato brown rot, was limited to the canals of the traditional potato-growing areas in the Nile Delta region, with positive findings more commonly associated with the network of smaller irrigation canals flowing through potato-growing areas. Pathogen populations in the canals of the Delta (~100–200 cfu l?1) were generally variable throughout the year with presence linked to potato cultivation in the immediate area. The pathogen was not detected in irrigation or drainage water associated with potato cultivation in the newly reclaimed desert areas (designated as Pest-Free Areas, PFAs) or in the main branches of the Nile upstream from these areas. In vitro studies showed that temperature and microbial activity were the main factors affecting survival of the pathogen in canal water. In experiments at temperatures of 4, 15, 28 and 35°C, survival was longest at 15°C and shortest at 35°C. Survival at 4 and 28°C tended to be intermediate between these extremes as was survival when the bacterium was grown at fluctuating temperatures. Aeration, solarisation and pH variation between 4 and 9 appeared to have little effect on survival. Survival in autoclaved or filter-sterilised canal water was longer than in untreated water irrespective of other factors with survival times exceeding 300 days at 15°C in some experiments. Evidence is presented indicating that survival in water-saturated sediment may be longer than in the overlying water suggesting that sediment may provide a protective niche for the pathogen in some circumstances. The maximum survival time in non-sterile Egyptian canal water at high inoculum pressure was estimated to be up to 300 days at optimum temperature for survival (15–30°C) suggesting the potential for long-distance spread in Egyptian surface waters from sources of contamination.  相似文献

Heavy metal accumulation in reclaimed soils is increasing rapidly in developing countries where the use of saline waters for irrigation is a common practice, even though salinity-heavy metal interactions are not fully understood. An example for this development is the Bangar area of Egypt where the application of contaminated amendments during the last 30 years has increased the Cd and Zn concentrations in topsoils from 0.08 to 0.76 mg · kg—1 and from 17 to 73 mg · kg—1 respectively. This work aimed at evaluating the uptake of Cd and Zn by Leucaena leucocephala, a leguminous tree cropped for fodder and green manure, as affected by the addition of 10 mM NaCl to irrigation water. During a 6 month field experiment, salinized and control plots were compared with respect to soil solution composition and root development as well as the uptake of Cd and Zn and their translocation to the leaves. NaCl treatment raised the concentration of organic carbon, Cd and Zn in soil solution and enhanced the uptake of Cd and Zn significantly. Salinized plants showed shorter roots, reduced retention of Cd and Zn in roots and stems and considerable translocation of both elements to the leaves. This work demonstrates that NaCl salinity affects not only the bioavailability of soil Cd and Zn but also modifies plant functions related to their acquisition and translocation to the leaves. The results provide evidence that the risk of transfer of heavy metals to the food chain and their leachability to the ground water may be greater under saline conditions than generally assumed.  相似文献

High protein distiller's dried grains (HP‐DDG) are co‐products of ethanol production that uses prefractionation technology. An 8‐week growth trial was conducted to investigate the effect of partial replacement of soybean meal (SBM) by three levels of HP‐DDG (30%, 40% and 50%) on growth performance, physiological parameters and histological changes of the intestine of European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax. The results indicated that an increased dietary level of HP‐DDG of more than 30% significantly increases growth performance and improved the FCR of sea bass. In addition, replacement of SBM by HP‐DDG enhanced feed intake efficiency and the health status of fish. Haematology and serum biochemistry (haemoglobin (Hb), red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), packed cell volume (PCV %) and humeral immune parameters including total protein, albumin, globulin, cholesterol, lysozyme activity and total antioxidant capacity significantly increased with increase HP‐DDG inclusion levels. The findings of this study indicated that HP‐DDG is a good complementary protein source for inclusion aquaculture diets and levels above 30% as a replacement of SBM did not compromise growth performance and physiological parameters of sea bass while enhancing some important indices of health status in this species.  相似文献

Immunostimulatory feed supplements have an increasingly interest in aquaculture management. Generally, an individual supplement was used in fish diets but it is expected that the use of multi‐supplements may show synergistic enhancements in fish performance, health, and immunity. Therefore, the present investigation was carried out to evaluate the use of dietary probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum and whey protein concentrate (WPC) in practical diets for Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Hence, probiotic L. plantarum, WPC and their mixture were incorporated into a basal fish diet (300 g/kg crude protein) as follows: T1 = a basal control diet, T2 = a basal diet containing L. plantarum, T3 = a basal diet containing 1.0 g WCP/kg diet and T4, T5 or T6 = basal diets containing probiotic L. plantarum + 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 g WCP/kg diet, respectively. Fish (15.2 ± 0.6 g) were fed on one of the tested diets up to apparent satiation twice a day for 60 days. After that, fish were intraperitoneally injected with pathogenic bacteria Aeromonas sobria and fish mortality was observed for 10 days postchallenge. Fish growth and feed intake were significantly improved by dietary probiotic L. plantarum (T2) and/or WPC (T3) over the control group (T1), and highest fish performance was observed in T5–T6 fish groups. Similarly, highest values of haematocrit, glucose, total proteins, albumin, and globulin were significantly observed in T5–T6 fish groups. Likewise, fish fed dietary probiotic L. plantarum (T2), WPC (T3), and their mixture (T4–T6) showed antioxidants and immune‐stimulating activities better than the control group. Fish fed the control diet were more susceptible to A. sobria infection showing highest fish mortality (75.0%). Meanwhile, dietary probiotic L. plantarum (T2), WPC (T3), and their mixture (T4–T6) enhanced significantly the fish resistance to A. sobria infection resulting in maximum values of relative percent of fish survival (73.3%–80.0%) in T5–T6 groups. The present investigation recommended the use of probiotic L. plantarum with 2.0 g WPC/kg diet to improve the growth, antioxidant, immunity responses and tolerance of Nile tilapia to A. sobria infection.  相似文献

There is a great interest in establishing mussel farming in Dakhla bay. Selection of suitable sites is more meaningful only if a reliable culture method at proposed site is included. We compared two different culture methods, longline and pole, over 1 year (June 2016 to June 2017). Growth indicators for Perna perna (size and weight growth rates, frequency distributions and estimating growth curves) were analysed from seeding to harvest. The results highlighted the influence of culture method on growth rates of mussels (p < 0.05). At harvest, individuals reared on longline presented higher growth rates and consequently reached greater weight and length values than those reared on pole. Mussels reared at the longline grew 73.2 mm and gained 53.5 g WL (live weight) and 3.3 g Wt (tissue dry weight) after 12 months of cultivation. However, mussels cultured at the pole gained only 52.3 mm, 26.7 g WL and 1.6 g Wt. Aerial exposure of mussels at low tides could explain this reduced performance on pole compared with longline. Size frequency distributions at harvest fitted bimodal distribution in both cultures due to an asymmetric competition among individuals. Effect of density started in both treatments after 7 months of culture when mussels reached 60–70 mm, implying an increment of their food and space requirements. To prevent overcrowding, the initial density should have been reduced through “thinning‐out.” The longline method exhibited high‐performance growth and hence is highly recommended for cultivation of P. perna in Dakhla bay.  相似文献

High‐protein distillers dried grains (HPDDG) is a co‐product of ethanol production that uses prefractionation technology. A 70‐day growth trial was conducted to investigate the effect of partial replacement of dietary soybean meal by high‐protein distiller's dried grains (HPDDG) with protease enzyme supplementation (PROXYM ULTRA®) on growth performance, physiological parameters and histological changes of the intestine of European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax fingerlings. The results indicated that increased dietary HPDDG levels up to 50% of HPDDG supplemented with protease significantly increases growth performance and feed utilization and improved FCR of sea bass. In addition, replacement of SBM by HPDDG supplemented with protease enhanced feed intake efficiency and the health status of fish. Haematology and serum biochemistry (haemoglobin (Hb)), red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs) and humeral immune parameters including total protein, globulin, cholesterol, lysozyme activity and total antioxidant capacity significantly increased with increase in HPDDG supplemented with protease in the diets. Results of this study indicated that HPDDG supplemented with protease is a good alternative protein source for aquaculture feed and can be included up to 50% as a replacement of SBM without compromising growth performance and physiological parameters of sea bass.  相似文献

This study was undertaken in order to determine the effect of feeding heat-treated, defatted soybean meal (SBM) on growth, feed utilization, and body composition of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). A control diet (SBM0) of 378 g kg−1 crude protein with 18.4 kJ g−1 gross energy was formulated, and three diets identical to the basal diet were autoclaved for 10, 20, or 30 min. The autoclaved diets were named SBM10, SBM20, and SBM30, respectively. Each diet treatment was applied to triplicate groups of 30 fish (2.45 ± 0.03 g) per tank (120 l). The fish were hand fed to satiation four times daily for 45 days. At the end of the feeding trial the fish fed with the SBM30 diet had significantly (P < 0.05) higher weight gain and protein efficiency ratio than those fed with the other diets. No feed-related mortality was observed during the whole experimental period. Heating SBM for 30 min reduced trypsin inhibitor activity (TIA) and increased apparent protein digestibility (APD), and indicated significant differences (P < 0.05) among various treatments. No significant differences were found in carcass moisture, lipid, and ash of fish fed with different experimental diets. An increase in the body protein content of fish fed with diet SBM30 was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than in all other experimental groups. The results of this study seem to indicate that autoclaving the SBM for 30 min improved its nutritional value in practical feeds for Nile tilapia fingerlings.  相似文献

Eight hundred and eighty‐five strains of bacterial isolates from various samples associated with the natural habitat of Macrobrachium rosenbergii were screened for their probiotic potential. Two putative probionts namely Bacillus NL110 and Vibrio NE17 isolated from the larvae and egg samples, respectively, were selected for experimental studies and were introduced to the juveniles of M. rosenbergii (0.080±0.001 g) through different modes such as through feed, water and both. The probiotic potential of the above bacteria in terms of improvements in water quality, growth, survival, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio and immune parameters was evaluated. The treatment groups showed a significant improvement in SGR and weight gain (P<0.001). Survival among different treatment groups was better than that in the control group. There were also significant improvements in the water quality parameters such as the concentration of nitrate and ammonia in the treatment groups (P<0.05). Improvements in immune parameters such as the total haemocyte count (P<0.05), phenoloxidase activity and respiratory burst were also significant (P<0.001). It is concluded that screening of the natural microflora of cultured fish and shellfish for putative probionts might yield probiotic strains of bacteria that could be utilized for an environment‐friendly and organic mode of aquaculture.  相似文献
