In the nine years from 1993 to 2001, 210 cases of rabies were recorded in domestic animals in South Korea; 115 cattle, 94 dogs and one farmed deer were affected. The annual incidence of rabies cases increased to a peak of 64 in 1998, and then decreased to about 30 cases per year. The cases were confined to the northern part of Kyounggi and Kangwon provinces. One hundred and forty-six cases (69.5 per cent) occurred in Kyounggi and 64 cases (30.5 per cent) in Kangwon province, and about 82 per cent of them were confined to two counties in Kyounggi province (29 per cent in Paju and 28.1 per cent in Younchun) and to Chulwon county in Kangwon province (25.2 per cent). However, over several years the outbreaks gradually moved south and east in both Kyounggi and Kangwon provinces. There were more rabies cases in cattle than in dogs, suggesting that the disease is transmitted by the sylvatic cycle. To investigate the relationship between rabies in domestic animals and wild animals, 107 wild animals, including Korean raccoon dogs, badgers, weasels and feral cats, were tested for rabies; 21 of the 67 Korean raccoon dogs tested (31 per cent) were infected. In the course of studies on bioactive metabolites from marine fungi, a new 10-membered lactone, named penicillinolide A (1) was isolated from the organic extract of Penicillium sp. SF-5292 as a potential anti-inflammatory compound. The structure of penicillinolide A (1) was mainly determined by analysis of NMR and MS data and Mosher’s method. Penicillinolide A (1) inhibited the production of NO and PGE2 due to inhibition of the expression of iNOS and COX-2. Penicillinolide A (1) also reduced TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 production, and these anti-inflammatory effects were shown to be correlated with the suppression of the phosphorylation and degradation of IκB-α, NF-κB nuclear translocation, and NF-κB DNA binding activity. In addition, using inhibitor tin protoporphyrin (SnPP), a competitive inhibitor of HO activity, it was verified that the inhibitory effects of compound 1 on the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and NF-κB DNA binding activity were partially associated with HO-1 expression through Nrf2 nuclear translocation.  相似文献

To study the variation between wheat bymovirus isolates and to resolve uncertainties about the identity of the virus in some countries, leaves of infected plants were obtained from nine sites in China and from one each in Italy, Germany, USA and Canada. The German isolate was obtained from rye and the Canadian isolate was the type strain of wheat spindle streak mosaic virus (WSSMV). In RT-PCR, using primers designed from a partial sequence of a French isolate (tentatively described as WSSMV), genome fragments were obtained from the Italian and the French isolates but not from the Chinese ones. Conversely, products were consistently obtained from the Chinese isolates, but not from the Italian or French ones, when primers were designed from the sequence of a Japanese isolate of wheat yellow mosaic virus (WYMV). Nucleotide sequences were obtained from regions at or near the 3'-terminus of RNA1 of six Chinese isolates and the four from Europe and North America, usually including the coat protein. Nucleotide and amino acid sequence comparisons demonstrated that the European and North American isolates were extremely similar and were therefore WSSMV, while the Chinese isolates were close to the Japanese isolate and were thus WYMV.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effects of lipid oxidation on quality deterioration in the ordinary and dark muscles of skipjack tuna Katuwonus pelamis during the early stages of ice storage for 72 h. The lipid hydroperoxide content of the dark muscle was significantly higher (P < 0.01) than that of the ordinary muscle throughout 72 h of ice storage. The metmyoglobin content of the ordinary muscle gradually increased, and was accompanied with darkening in the fish meat color. On the other hand, the addition of sodium ascorbate or 6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-2-carboxylic acid (Trolox®) to the ordinary muscle of skipjack tuna significantly inhibited the formation of lipid hydroperoxide as well as metmyoglobin formation. Thus, a decrease in α-tocopherol content in the ordinary muscle with antioxidant addition was not observed during ice storage period. In conclusion, the rate of lipid oxidation of skipjack tuna ordinary muscle is closely related to metmyoglobin formation, and the addition of antioxidants to fish meat is effective at inhibiting lipid oxidation as well as myoglobin oxidation in post-mortem meat.  相似文献

Triphenyl phosphate (TPP) is well known to be one of the most effective flame retardants for acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and its blending resins, such as polycarbonate (PC)/ABS, among various phosphorous-based compounds. However, TPP can also play a role as a plasticizer, which decreases the mechanical properties of PC/ABS resins at high temperature. Furthermore considerable amount of TPP has to be evaporated during molding process due on its much lower evaporation temperature. To overcome these shortcomings, we tried to immobilize TPP by grafting on butadiene moiety of ABS. FT-IR analysis of prepared TPP-grafted ABS (ABS-g-TPP) comparing with TPP, ABS and their blend confirmed that chemical reactions happened between TPP and ABS resins and it was attributed to the graft reaction of TPP onto butadiene moieties. Prepared ABS-g-TPP resins were blended with PC at various compositions to be prepared as testing specimens by injection molding. The physical characteristics such as mechanical properties, thermal stability, and flame retarding properties of the PC/ABS-TPP graft copolymer were analyzed through Vicat softening temperature, IZOD impact strength, transmission electron microscope, and UL94 flame retardation tests. Results showed that PC/ABS-g-TPP resin takes better thermomechanical properties than the existing PC/ABS resins at relatively low additional TPP amounts.  相似文献

Properties of foxtail millet (Setaria italica Beauv.) starches have been studied. Amylose content ranged between 3.3 and 11.4%. Starch content was from 67.5 to 68.7%. The onset temperature (To) of all samples ranged from 66.4 to 69.6°C, peak temperature (Tp) ranged 71.0 to 74.2°C, and their gelatinization enthalpy varied from 0.44 to 8.22 J/g, respectively. A highest gelatinization temperature was obtained for Bongseongjaerae (69.6°C). The enthalpy of the gelatinization (Δ H gel ) was highest in Andongjaerae. The highest peak, highest breakdown, very high final viscosity, and very low setback were noted in Jucheonjaerae. The starch granule sizes ranged 10.1–25.0 in length and 4.7–12.5μm in diameter. X-ray diffraction angles indicated that all starch samples possess a typical A-type crystallinity.  相似文献

Grain compositional components impacting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) use in food, feed and fuel products, must be combined with improved agronomic traits to produce a commercially viable barley cultivar. Little current information is available on grain composition and variability among winter barley genotypes. This study was conducted to determine the variability among modern hulled and hulless winter barley genotypes in grain composition. Barley types varied significantly in grain and kernel weight, starch, beta-glucan, oil and ash content, but not in protein concentration. Hulless barley had significantly higher grain test weight and starch concentration than hulled and malting types, and significantly higher beta-glucan than malting barley. Hulless barley had significantly lower kernel weights, oil, and ash concentrations than hulled and malting types. Higher starch and lower fiber and ash in grain of hulless barley versus hulled feed or malting type barley are characteristics that increase hulless barley desirability. Selection for high starch concentration among all barley types is feasible and will facilitate development of barley cultivars better suited for use in feed, malt, and ethanol production.  相似文献

To investigate whether drought tolerance of individual trees can be increased through the provision of more growing space, trees from a thinning experiment were analysed for reductions in radial growth during drought years and their subsequent recovery. Tree-ring widths were quantified on increment cores as well as stem discs of 32 trees from stands of a thinning trial established in 1974 in 27-year-old spruce stands in the Alpine Foreland of Southwest Germany. Three different thinning regimes of the trial were selected for this study: unthinned control (8 trees), moderate (13 trees) and heavy thinning (11 trees) intensities. All trees sampled were of a co-dominant to dominant canopy status. The standardisation of growth data was carried out using the software program ARSTAN (University of Arizona). For the year 1976—a widespread and severe drought year in Germany—we found year ring widths were not reduced compared to those of the pre-drought years for all treatments. However, we observed the formation of false year rings and resin ducts for this year in all trees investigated. The drought events in 1992 and 2003 led to severe growth depressions in the year of the drought event in all trees, regardless of previous thinning regimes. However, the resilience—the recovery of basal area growth in subsequent years—was significantly more rapid in trees from heavily thinned stands, even if the drought event occurred more than 10 years after the last thinning intervention. This indicates a shorter stress period for trees with more growing space, which may reduce the susceptibility to secondary pathogens or pest species such as bark beetles.  相似文献

Silicon (Si) is abundant in the soil, yet its role in plant biology has been poorly understood. The role of Si in soybean growth and its effectiveness in salt stress alleviation was investigated. Sodium metasilicate (Na2SiO3) was given as Si source to hydroponically grown soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). The plant growth attributes, i.e. plant height, plant fresh and dry biomass, chlorophyll contents and endogenous gibberellins (GAs) level improved with 2.5 mM Si, while endogenous abscisic acid (ABA) and free proline contents were not affected as compared to control. Sodium chloride (NaCl) significantly decreased growth attributes and endogenous gibberellins levels but markedly enhanced ABA and proline contents of soybean leaves. An addition of Si to salt stressed plants substantially alleviated the adverse effects of NaCl on growth, as it enhanced endogenous gibberellins, while reduced the levels of ABA and proline. GAs analysis of soybean leaves also showed that both early C13 hydroxylation and non C13 hydroxylation pathways of gibberellin biosynthesis were operating in soybean. The major GA biosynthesis pathway was identified as non C13 hydroxylation, which led to the formation of bioactive GA4. Current study suggests that Si application alleviates the detrimental effect of salinity stress on growth and development of soybean.  相似文献

A durable aroma finishing for PET fabric was carried out by adopting poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) nanoparticles containing lavender oil (LO) in core. Relatively small size of PVAc nanoparticles (ca. 244 nm of mean particle diameter) was expected to resist the frictional destruction of the particles, which is frequently observed in cases of microcapsules. PVAc nanoparticles containing LO in core were prepared by emulsification-diffusion method and their application as an aroma releasing agent for PET fabrics was assessed through the observation of releasing profiles of LO in ethanol for experimental acceleration. Melamine-formaldehyde (MF) microcapsules containing LO were also prepared and treated on fabrics for comparison. PVAc nanoparticles treated on PET fabric showed higher initial releasing amount, which was ascribed to the enhanced surface area. After 2 days of releasing, PET fabric treated with PVAc nanoparticles showed slower and more stable releasing profile and reached about 12 ppm of cumulative release after 16 days, which was under two thirds of that with MF microcapsules. PVAc nanoparticles can be used as an agent for durable aroma finishing of PET fabrics.  相似文献
