A new genus, Ritacestus, is proposed to accommodate Ritacestus ritaii (Verma, 1926) comb. n. (syn. Proteocephalus ritaii), a parasite of the catfish Rita rita (Hamilton) in India. The new genus, which is placed in the Gangesiinae, is characterized by (i) a small, subspherical scolex formed by four large lobes separated from one another by longitudinal grooves, with a large, widely oval to pyriform rostellum-like apical organ, larger than suckers and possessing an apical hemispherical depression; (ii) paramuscular and cortical position of some vitelline follicles (most follicles are situated medullary); (iii) ventral and dorsal bands of vitelline follicles usually uninterrupted ventral to terminal genitalia and reaching to the posterior margin of proglottides; (iv) the vagina always anterior to the cirrus-sac; (v) a large size of the body (length up to 51 cm); and (vi) development of the uterus of type 2. In its morphology, especially shape of the scolex and apical organ, and paramuscular and cortical position of some vitelline follicles, Ritacestus resembles Postgangesia Akhmerov, 1969, but differs in the presence of a genital atrium (both genital pores of Postgangesia are separate), the anterior position of the vagina (almost always posterior in the latter genus), position of vitelline follicles in cross sections (dorsal and ventral bands in Ritacestus versus only a lateral band in the latter genus), and dorsal excretory canals indistinguishable in mature and gravid proglottides of R. ritaii (well developed in Postgangesia spp.). The type and only species of the genus, R. ritaii, is redescribed on the basis of new material from the type host from the Ganges River basin in India and its neotype is designated. 相似文献

The relationships between pH, dissolved oxygen (DO) and chlorophyll a in aquaculture and non-aquaculture waters are assessed in this paper. The research includes the evaluation of field and experimental studies at the Panjiakou Reservoir (between Aug and Oct 2009) and the review of international data covering two decades. The results indicated that typical eutrophic non-aquaculture water had mean concentrations of chlorophyll a of higher than 10 ??g L?1, and significant positive correlations were found between pH, DO and chlorophyll a. When the mean concentration of chlorophyll a was less than 10 ??g L?1, no correlation was found between DO and chlorophyll a for waters with a high exchange rate or heavily organically polluted natural waters. Diurnal variations were found for both pH and DO. A corresponding significant positive correlation was found between both water quality parameters. In general, when the mean concentration of chlorophyll a was less than 10 ??g L?1 within aquaculture waters of low exchange rate, only a weak or no correlation at all was found between pH, DO and chlorophyll a during summer and autumn. On the other hand, a significant positive correlation between pH and chlorophyll a and a significant positive correlation or no correlation between DO and chlorophyll a were found for aquaculture waters with a high exchange rate during summer and autumn. Examination of cattle with respiratory diseases for Mycoplasma and bacterial bronchopneumonia agents

A total of 247 mycoplasma strains was isolated from 435 lungs, tracheobronchial secretions and nasal swabs originating from cattle with symptoms of bronchopneumonia. Mycoplasma (M.) bovis was found 89 times (36%) and was the most common mycoplasma species in the lungs. M. bovirhinis, M. bovigenitalium, M. spec. and Acholeplasma (A.) laidlawii were isolated 158 times (64%). Among these mycoplasmas M. bovirhinis was the most widespread species (114 isolations). In 55 cases (62%) M. bovis was associated with Pasteurella or Actinomyces (A.) pyogenes. The other mycoplasma species were found in 67 cases (42%) together with these bacteria. Without mycoplasmas Pasteurella and A. pyogenes occurred in 33 of the probes investigated (21%). Beside mycoplasmas Haemophilus (H.) somnus was isolated from 16 of 162 tracheobronchial secretions investigated. The results confirm earlier suppositions that in most of the cases bronchopneumonia of cattle is a multifactorial event, frequently associated with mycoplasmas--especially M. bovis. 相似文献

Increasing the environmental temperature to 35 degrees C produced hyperthermia in 11 female rabbits, 80-90 days old. At the onset of hyperthermia the heart rate increased, but there was no further change after about two hours (range 1-3 hours); it remained constant at an increased rate until the end of the experiment. Blood pressure fell at first, but it had increased again after 90 minutes, and underwent no further change during the experiment. The present study was conducted to study the impact of the virulence factors invC and sseD of the two type III secretion systems of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) on the pathogenesis of the porcine S. Typhimurium DT104 infection. For this purpose, two S. Typhimurium mutant strains with a disrupted invC gene of the Salmonella pathogenicity island 1 or with a disrupted sseD gene of the Salmonella pathogenicity island 2 have been studied in experimental infection of pigs. Twenty-two 7-week-old male hybrid pigs were either infected with one of the mutants or the wild-type S. Typhimurium DT104 strain. Each group was examined for clinical signs, Salmonella shedding rate and the specific antibody response. Survival and replication were evaluated by qualitative and quantitative determination of the colonization rate. The humoral and cellular immune responses were examined using isotype-specific ELISA and quantitative real-time PCR of IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, IL-12 and IFN-gamma. The results proved that both mutants had a lower virulence (with marked differences between both mutants) than the wild-type and that both virulence factors have importance in porcine salmonellosis. Only pigs infected with the wild-type S. Typhimurium DT104 exhibited typical clinical symptoms of salmonellosis like anorexia, vomiting, disturbed demeanour, fever and diarrhoea. Deletion of the invC gene resulted in a significantly reduced colonization rate. Interestingly, the mRNA expression of both type-1 and type-2 cytokines were significantly decreased in pigs infected with either the invC-mutant and the sseD-mutant strain. 相似文献

Hydroacoustic data from the eastern equatorial Pacific reveal low-magnitude seismicity concentrated at the propagating tip of the Galapagos Rise in Hess Deep. The patterns of seismicity and faulting are similar to those observed in the process zone of laboratory-scale propagating tensile cracks. Because the fracture energy required for propagation scales with crack length and process zone size, it follows that ridges can propagate stably in the brittle crust without exceptional resisting forces as proposed by previous models based on linear elastic fracture mechanics. 相似文献

Summary A population of first clonal generation material was planted at four sites and selected visually by four breeders using the method of negative selection. Six table cultivars of potato that displayed appropriate levels of the characters under consideration, and six that did not, were planted at random throughout the population as standards. There were significant effects for site, year and breeder. The variance for sites was ca. 2 1/2 times that for the breeders (Tables 1 and 2), with about twice as many positive cultivars selected at site 1 as at site 3 (Table 3). There were also differences in selection results between breeders (Table 4). The uncertainty of visual selection of single plants is obvious from Table 5. Results from two years show a marked effect of year (Table 6). The relative frequencies of wrongly rejected (loss risk — Verlustrisiko) and wrongly selected (ballast risk — Ballastrisiko) standards are shown in Table 7. Only a few negative genotypes (standards) were selected, but there was a considerable loss of positive genotypes. The expected values of the standards and their actual selection results are being used to optimize the selection limits. The exploitation of populations can largely be ensured in bad years or sites, without the use of indicators and individual handling of clones with several tubers, by bulking two tubers per genotype from the first vegetative progeny. This measure may be restricted to highly valuable combinations. The possibility of accidentally selecting identical genotypes can be corrected in later generations simply by electrophoresis of soluble tuber proteins. Growing the population at two sites, best done through the framework of international co-operation, improves the likelihood of optimizing screening.相似文献

White mold, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is a devastating fungal disease of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) worldwide. Physiological resistance and disease avoidance conferred by plant architecture-related traits contribute to white mold field resistance. Our objective was to further examine white mold disease avoidance in common bean. A comparative map composed of 79 quantitative trait loci (QTL) for white mold resistance (27), disease avoidance traits (36) and root traits (16) was generated. Thirteen white mold resistance QTL, six with strong and seven with weak associations with disease avoidance traits, were observed. Root length and lodging QTL co-located in three regions. Canopy porosity and height, and lodging were highly correlated with disease severity score in field screening trials conducted from 2000 to 2011. Resistance to lodging was extremely important for reducing disease severity in both dry and snap bean (r?=?0.61 across 11 trials). Avoidance traits were less effective in reducing disease severity in trials with heavy disease pressure. Dry bean lines with physiological resistance in combination with disease avoidance traits did not require fungicide application to protect yield potential under moderate and heavy disease pressure. Given the complexity of disease resistance as evidenced by the comparative QTL map, marker-assisted breeding for disease avoidance is not recommended at this time. Instead, selecting for resistance to white mold in the field, in combination with high yield potential and acceptable maturity, is the recommended strategy for improving both disease avoidance and physiological resistance to white mold in cultivars with commercially acceptable agronomic traits. 相似文献
