SummaryWe examined S-allele genotypes of ten apple cultivars and species to determine their possible usefulness as pollenizers for all apple cultivars. ‘Dolgo’ did not contain any known S-RNases encoded at the S-locus, suggesting its possible usefulness as a pollenizer for almost all apple cultivars. We also identified and confirmed the S-allele genotypes of 18 apple cultivars by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-digestion analysis. The S-genotype of ‘Kiou’ (S1S7), ‘Korei’ (S3S28), ‘Korin’ (S1S9), ‘Kotoku’ (S1S28), ‘Kyokkou (S7S25), ‘Lobo’ (S1S7), ’Mahe 7’ (S2S7), ‘Mellow’ (S2S3), ‘Takahara’ (S3S9) and ‘Warabi’ (S9S28) were confirmed by pollination results. These cultivars seemed not to have originated from the expected seed or pollen parents or, in the case of ‘Lobo’, might have been mislabelled. In western Japan, Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) forests have been expanding by replacing surrounding vegetation such as coniferous plantation forests and natural broadleaved forests. It has been speculated that the replacement of surrounding vegetation by bamboo forests could alter the vegetation water cycle and available water resources. We quantified stand-scale transpiration (E) in a bamboo forest on the basis of sap-flux measurements and compared the E value with values for coniferous forests. The annual E was estimated to be 567 mm. Seasonal trends in E primarily corresponded to seasonal trends in the vapor pressure deficit. Annual E for the bamboo forest was higher than that for the coniferous forests by 12% of annual precipitation (P). This difference in annual E is comparable with the difference in annual interception evaporation (I) relative to P between bamboo and coniferous forests; previous studies reported lower I for bamboo forests by ∼10% of P. Thus, the sum of E and I was comparable for bamboo and coniferous forests. As this study is the first measuring E of bamboo forests, further studies are required to examine the generality of our results. 相似文献

The feeding events of wild animals have been widely researched in recent decades. The use of invasive methods to determine
stomach contents in which the fish is killed can, however, be considered to be unjustifiable in the case of an endangered
fish, such as the Japanese late. Here, we report on a method that can be used to verify feeding events of a fish species without
the need for killing the fish through the use of a high-speed video camera and a three-axis micro-acceleration data-logger.
High-quality images obtained by the video showed that the fish opens its mouth with a quick downward movement of the mandibles
and ingests prey via suction feeding. The movement of the mandibles was also simultaneously recorded by changes in the three-axis
accelerations obtained by the logger attached to the dorsum. We attached the logger with an automatic release system to the
dorsum of one captive Japanese lates and two wild fish together with an acoustic transmitter and then released the fish in
the Shimanto River in Japan. After retrieving the logger, the movement records of the fish obtained by the three-axis accelerometer
showed the same pattern of feeding events as those in captivity. A total of 13 feeding events at night and five during the
daytime were obtained for the three fish during a total 129.7 h of recording. 相似文献

To evaluate the relationship among immune status and increased morbidity and mortality, peripheral blood lymphocytes (CD3(+), CD4(+), CD8(+) and CD21(+) cells) from 32 healthy dogs over 8 years of age were analyzed. Twenty-five of the 32 dogs were followed-up for 3 years after the analysis; and 14 dogs were found to be diseased, and nine dogs died. There was no notable difference between the ages of the dogs that died compared with the ones that survived. The relative percentage of CD4(+) and the CD4(+):CD8(+) ratio decreased notably in dogs falling ill compared with healthy dogs. The relative percentage of CD3(+) lymphocytes showed a notable decrease in dogs that died within 3 years in comparison with dogs that survived. In a discriminant analysis of morbidity and mortality, most patients were correctly classified as diseased or not and surviving or dead, respectively. These results indicate that the immunophenotypes of peripheral blood lymphocytes in older dogs offer promise as parameters for evaluating mortality and morbidity. 相似文献

Five different wooden parallel chord trusses were made of Canadian spruce 2 by 4 lumbers. Chord–web nodal points were composed of self-tapping-screws (STS) whose numbers per nodal point and allocations in nodal point were considered as the main experimental parameters which were varied from 2rows-2lines till 2rows-4lines. Load–slip relationships at nodal point were evaluated using the joint specimens made of similar materials. These parallel chord trusses were modeled using a finite element method (FEM) program by taking not only nonlinearity of nodal point joints but also material nonlinearity of chord members using fiber model into consideration. Strength properties of the chord members were deduced via specific gravity of chord member based on the regression equations given by a literature. Static monotonic central point loading tests were conducted on five specimens to investigate nonlinear behaviors of wooden parallel chord trusses. Comparisons between observed results by experiments and computed ones by FEM calculations showed a tendency that material nonlinearity gave less effect on the total nonlinear behaviour of the specimens when joint performance was inferior, on the other hand, as the joint performance increased material nonlinearity gave dominant effect on the total nonlinear behaviour of the specimens. 相似文献

Histopathological analyses of red crown rot (RCR) of soybean were performed using field-grown and indoor-grown soybean plants. These analyses revealed that soybean plants formed a periderm to prevent pathogen invasion. When a break formed in the periderm, an additional periderm newly differentiated into the inner cells and prevented pathogen invasion. If the pathogen reached the intravascular tissues, some xylem parenchyma cells died, and the vessels were occluded by gum. Periderm formation and vessel occlusion were observed not only in slightly diseased soybean plants, but also in seriously diseased plants, indicating that both reactions function as part of the defense response against RCR. 相似文献

In 2016, in Miyakojima, Okinawa, Japan, banana plants (Musa?×?paradisiaca) ‘Shima-banana’ developed yellowing and wilt associated with vascular discoloration of the pseudostems. Fusarium oxysporum, identified based on morphological characters, was frequently isolated from the vascular tissue of the infected plant and reproduced the original symptoms on ‘Shima-banana’ after drench inoculation with a spore suspension. Thereby, we determined that the disease is Panama disease caused by F. oxysporum. This is the first official report of Panama disease (Panama-byo in Japanese) of banana in Japan. 相似文献

Degenerative lesions were induced in the knee joint of Wistar rats by intraarticular injection of chondrocyte metabolism inhibitor mono-iodoacetate (MIA) at doses of 0, 0.3 or 3 mg/joint. Histopathological examination and the measurement of hind paw weight ratio as an index of joint pain by incapacitance tester were performed. Histological findings that are similar to those observed in human osteoarthritis (OA), such as disorganization of chondrocytes, erosion and fibrillation of cartilage surface, and subchondral bone exposure etc., were observed in a MIA-dose-dependent manner. Saflanin-O fast green staining revealed that marked diffuse reduction of proteoglycan in cartilage tissue of rats treated with MIA. The clinical scores of the joint pain were closely correlated to the grade of histological findings. We conclude that the present experimental model in combination with a novel dual channel weight averager would be very useful for the study of human OA, and could be applied for estimation of therapeutic effect of new anti-OA drugs. 相似文献
