In this study, cotton/nylon blended fabrics were treated with atmospheric air plasma at various times (30–60 s) and were subsequently printed with pastes containing carbon black nanoparticles. Properties of plasma treated fabrics such as visible-near infrared (Vis-NIR) reflectance, water contact angle, air permeability, and color fastness were measured. It was shown that increasing plasma treatment time decreases reflection level of treated fabrics in Vis-NIR region. Plasma treatment also enhanced the hydrophobicity of cotton/nylon fabrics observed by an increase in water contact angle. Plasma treated samples for 60 s demonstrated lower air permeability than those treated for 30 s. Furthermore, printed samples possessed acceptable levels of fastness against washing, light and crocking. 相似文献

Phenol oxidase and peroxidase activities in desert grassland soils at the Sevilleta Long Term Ecological Research site in central New Mexico (USA) are far greater than those of temperate soils. Activity is uniformly distributed across particles ranging from >1 mm to <38 μm and is unaffected by autoclaving, in contrast to hydrolase activities. The sorbed enzymes are readily extractable and inactivated by boiling. High soil pH, high stabilized oxidative enzyme activity, and carbonates create optimal conditions for degradation of phenols which increase decomposition potentials and limit soil organic matter accumulation. 相似文献

Differential expression of fucosylated glycoproteins has been correlated with malignancy and metastatic potential in various types of neoplasia. Utilizing glycoproteomics techniques, changes in fucosylated serum peptides associated with naturally occurring canine lymphoma and transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) have been evaluated. In both types of neoplasia, the majority of the fucosylated peptides that changed increased with the cancer. In one lymphoma case that was examined over the course of the disease, the same fucosylated peptides that increased during pre-chemotherapy decreased during post-chemotherapy, and then subsequently increased upon recurrence of the lymphoma. When comparing all the fucosylated peptides that increased in both types of cancer, there were only two peptides in common allowing discrimination between lymphoma and TCC based on their peptide profiles. These results emphasize the prospect of glycopeptide profiling in proteomics for use in discovering a panel of non-invasive, diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers of cancer. 相似文献

Objective – To describe general anesthesia and successful resuscitation of a dog developing asystole and apnea during extradural injection of local anesthetic and an opioid. Case Summary – A Beagle with a ruptured cranial cruciate was premedicated with acepromazine and methadone. Anesthesia was induced with propofol and, after endotracheal intubation, maintained using isoflurane in oxygen. During extradural injection of a mixture of lidocaine, bupivacaine, and morphine the dog developed apnea and asystole. Cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation was started promptly and the dog was successfully resuscitated. New Information Provided – Asystole and apnea are possible serious side effects of extradural anesthesia in dogs. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the onset and duration of neuromuscular blockade of rocuronium bromide and its associated haemodynamic effects at three doses in healthy horses. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, randomized experimental study. ANIMALS: Seven adult horses aged 3-20 (mean 10.3) years and weighing 466 +/- 44 (mean +/- SD) kg. METHODS: Horses were anaesthetized three times with at least 2 weeks between. They were pre-medicated with 0.6 mg kg(-1) xylazine and 0.01 mg kg(-1) butorphanol i.v.. Anaesthesia was induced with 2.2 mg kg(-1) ketamine and 0.1 mg kg(-1) diazepam i.v.. Following orotracheal intubation anaesthesia was maintained with isoflurane in 100% oxygen. Intermittent positive pressure ventilation was initiated and the horses were ventilated at a respiratory rate (fr) of 4-8 breaths minute(-1). Neuromuscular function was monitored with an acceleromyograph. The peroneal nerve was stimulated with train-of-four (TOF) mode at 2 Hz every 15 seconds. Each horse received, in randomly assigned order, one of the three doses of rocuronium: 0.2 mg kg(-1) (D02), 0.4 mg kg(-1) (D04) or 0.6 mg kg(-1) (D06) i.v.. Lag time, onset time, time of no response, duration of action and the TOF ratio 0.7 and 0.9 were measured. Recovery time (T1(25-75)) was calculated. Vital parameters were recorded at 5-minute intervals on a standard anaesthetic record form. RESULTS: Rocuronium produced a dose-dependent duration of action in isoflurane-anaesthetized horses. 100% block was observed in D04 and D06 but not in D02, in which the maximum decrease of the first twitch of TOF attained was 91.5 +/- 16.5%. Time to T1(25) was 13.1 +/- 5.5 minutes, 38.6 +/- 10.1 minutes and 55 +/- 9.8 minutes in D02, D04 and D06 respectively. There was a significantly shorter time for TOFR 0.9 with 0.2 mg kg(-1) compared with 0.4 and 0.6 mg kg(-1) rocuronium. T1(25-75) in D04 and D6 was not statistically significantly different. Heart rate, systolic, diastolic and mean arterial blood pressure increased slightly during the observation period. CONCLUSION: Rocuronium is an effective nondepolarizing muscle relaxant in horses under isoflurane anaesthesia. It had a dose-dependent onset and duration of action. - Seamounts host some of the most important deep-sea ecosystems. The unique environmental characteristics of seamounts sustain rich biological hot spots, which, in recent times, have suffered the effects of intense fishing pressure.
- Biodiversity and vulnerability data are extremely scarce for Mediterranean seamounts, and this, in addition to the complex socio-economic and juridical status of offshore sites, results in difficulty in identifying the best management strategies.
- An extensive remotely operated vehicle (ROV) survey was used to characterize the megabenthic assemblages of the summits of two upper bathyal seamounts, Ulisse and Penelope (Ligurian Sea, north-west Mediterranean Sea). The biogeographic implications of these findings and the possible environmental factors favouring the occurrence of these communities are discussed.
- High densities of abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear (mainly longlines) and a reduction in the average size of the fragile and slow-growing habitat-forming gorgonian Callogorgia verticillata indicate the occurrence of high levels of anthropogenic impacts on the summit regions, which are fishing grounds for artisanal and recreational fishers.
- The recovery of fishing data describing the first catches in the 1970s proved to be useful in inferring the short- and long-term effects of fishing practices in these previously unexploited offshore areas. In particular, the local extinction of demersal top predators, subjected to exceptional catches nearly 50 years ago, highlights the slow recovery rate of such species.
- Criteria defining vulnerability are discussed for the two study areas, and specific conservation actions, including the creation of regulated protected areas, are proposed.

Caneberries (Rubus spp. L.) are grown primarily throughout the Pacific Northwestern United States and Canada. Processing of caneberry fruit typically removes the seed, and the development of a value-added use of seeds could expand the market for caneberries and the profit margins for growers. An initial step toward the use of the seeds is a characterization of seed and oil. Our investigation has described compositional characteristics for seeds of five commonly grown caneberry species: red raspberry, black raspberry, boysenberry, Marion blackberry, and evergreen blackberry. Seeds from all five species had 6-7% protein and 11-18% oil. The oils contained 53-63% linoleic acid, 15-31% linolenic acid, and 3-8% saturated fatty acids. The two smaller seeded raspberry species had higher percentages of oil, the lowest amounts of saturated fatty acid, and the highest amounts of linolenic acid. Antioxidant capacities were detected both for whole seeds and for cold-pressed oils but did not correlate to total phenolics or tocopherols. Ellagitannins and free ellagic acid were the main phenolics detected in all five caneberry species and were approximately 3-fold more abundant in the blackberries and the boysenberry than in the raspberries. 相似文献
