Covalently cross-linked proteins are among the major modifications caused by the advanced Maillard reaction. So far, the chemical nature of these aggregates is largely unknown. Investigations are reported on the isolation of 6-[2-[[(4S)-4-amino-4-carboxybutyl]amino]-6,7-dihydroxy-6,7-dihydroimidazo[4,5-b]azepin-4(5H)-yl]-L-norleucine (10) and N-acetyl-6-[(6R,7R)-2-[[4-(acetylamino)-4-carboxybutyl]amino]-6,7,8a-trihydroxy-6,7,8,8a-tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-b]azepin-4(5H)-yl]-L-norleucine (12) formed by oxidation of the major Maillard cross-link glucosepane 1. Independent synthesis and unequivocal structural characterization are given for 10 and 12. Spiro cross-links, representing a new class of glycoxidation products, were obtained by dehydrogenation of the amino imidazolinimine compounds N6-[2-[[(4S)-4-ammonio-5-oxido-5-oxopentyl]amino]-5-[(2S,3R)-2,3,4-trihydroxybutyl]-3,5-dihydro-4H-imidazol-4-ylidene]-L-lysinate (DOGDIC 2) and N6-[2-[[(4S)-4-ammonio-5-oxido-5-oxopentyl]amino]-5-[(2S)-2,3-dihydroxypropyl]-3,5-dihydro-4H-imidazol-4-ylidene]-L-lysinate (DOPDIC 3). These new oxidation products were synthesized, and their unambiguous structural elucidation proved the formation of the spiro imidazolimine structures N6-[(7R,8S)-2-[[(4S)-4-ammonio-5-oxido-5-oxopentyl]amino]-8-hydroxy-7-(hydroxymethyl)-6-oxa-1,3-diazaspiro[4.4]non-1-en-4-ylidene]-L-lysinate (16), N6-(8R,9S)-2-[(4S)-4-ammonio-5-oxido-5-oxopentyl]amino]-8,9-dihydroxy-6-oxa-1,3-diazaspiro[4.5]dec-1-en-4-ylidene)-L-lysinate (19), and N6-[(8S)-2-[(4-amino-4-carboxybutyl)amino]-8-hydroxy-6-oxa-1,3-diazaspiro[4.4]non-1-en-4-ylidene]-L-lysinate (18), respectively. An open dynamic chamber system was used to measure the soil CO2 efflux intensively and continuously throughout a growing season in a mature spruce forest (Picea abies) in Southern Germany. The resulting data set contained a large amount of temporally highly resolved information on the variation in soil CO2 efflux together with environmental variables. Based on this background, the dependencies of the soil CO2 efflux rate on the controlling environmental factors were analysed in-depth. Of the abiotic factors, soil temperature alone explained 72% of the variation in the efflux rate, and including soil water content (SWC) as an additional variable increased the explained variance to about 83%. Between April and December, average rates ranged from 0.43 to 5.15 μmol CO2 m−2 s−1 (in November and July, respectively) with diurnal variations of up to 50% throughout the experiment. The variability in wind speed above the forest floor influenced the CO2 efflux rates for measuring locations with a litter layer of relatively low bulk density (and hence relatively high proportions of pore spaces). For the temporal integration of flux rates for time scales of hours to days, however, wind velocities were of no effect, reflecting the fact that wind forcing acts on the transport, but not the production of CO2 in the soil. The variation in both the magnitude of the basal respiration rate and the temperature sensitivity throughout the growing season was only moderate (coefficient of variation of 15 and 25%, respectively). Soil water limitation of the CO2 production in the soil could be best explained by a reduction in the temperature-insensitive basal respiration rate, with no discernible effect on the temperature sensitivity. Using a soil CO2 efflux model with soil temperature and SWC as driving variables, it was possible to calculate the annual soil CO2 efflux for four consecutive years for which meteorological data were available. These simulations indicate an average efflux sum of 560 g C m−2 yr−1 (SE=22 g C m−2 yr−1). An alternative model derived from the same data but using temperature alone as a driver over-estimated the annual flux sum by about 7% and showed less inter-annual variability. Given a likely shift in precipitation patterns alongside temperature changes under projected global change scenarios, these results demonstrate the necessity to include soil moisture in models that calculate the evolution of CO2 from temperate forest soils. 相似文献

Wettability of soil affects a wide variety of processes in soils like infiltration, percolation, preferential flow, and surface runoff. Even though efforts have been made to determine contact angles and surface tension or energy of smooth surfaces, the determination on granular materials like soil particles remains unsolved. One objective of this study was to test the consistency of contact angles (CA) measured with the newly modified and easy‐to‐apply Wilhelmy plate method by using solid particles and liquids with defined variations of surface tension. A second objective was to derive basic physical surface properties for the irregularly shaped and chemically heterogeneous soil particles. Advancing contact angles were determined by using model soils varying in texture from clay to coarse sand to check the impact of grain size on the CA measurements. Varying the solid‐surface tension with dichlorodimethlylsilane treatments provided for pure‐water wetting stages ranging from wettable to extremely hydrophobic. The surface tensions of the liquids were varied from 72 mN m–1 to 25 mN m–1 by using water or water‐ethanol mixtures. The surface tensions of the model soils were determined with the zero degree–contact angle method following Zisman's critical–surface tension concept. Results show that the measured CA varied continuously with the variations of the surface tension of the liquid and the solid phase, respectively. The influence of the soil mineral phase on organic matter storage was studied in loess derived surface soils of Central Germany. The seven soils were developed to different genetic stages. The carbon content of the bulk soils ranged from 8.7 to 19.7 g kg—1. Clay mineralogy was confirmed to be constant, with illite contents > 80 %. Both, specific surface area (SSA, BET‐N2‐method) and cation exchange capacity (CEC) of bulk soils after carbon removal were better predictors of carbon content than clay content or dithionite‐extractable iron. SSA explained 55 % and CEC 54 % of the variation in carbon content. The carbon loadings of the soils were between 0.57 and 1.06 mg C m—2, and therefore in the ”︁monolayer equivalent” (ME) level. The increase in SSA after carbon removal (ΔSSA) was significantly and positively related to carbon content (r2 = 0.77). Together with CEC of carbon‐free samples, ΔSSA explained 90 % of the variation in carbon content. Clay (< 2 μm) and fine silt fractions (2—6.3 μm) contained 68—82 % of the bulk soil organic carbon. A significantly positive relationship between carbon content in the clay fraction and in the bulk soil was observed (r2 = 0.95). The carbon pools of the clay and fine silt fractions were characterized by differences in C/N ratio, δ13C ratio, and enrichment factors for carbon and nitrogen. Organic matter in clay fractions seems to be more altered by microbes than organic matter in fine silt fractions. The results imply that organic matter accumulates in the fractions of smallest size and highest surface area, apparently intimately associated with the mineral phase. The amount of cations adhering to the mineral surface and the size of a certain and specific part of the surface area (ΔSSA) are the mineral phase properties which affect the content of the organic carbon in loess derived arable surface soils in Central Germany most. A survey was conducted by using questionnaires dealing with morbidity and mortality of young dogs. Seventy-one clinical evaluations of diseased dogs were included in this survey. The cases were divided into 3 groups according to their vaccination history: 1. dogs vaccinated with the parvovirus and distemper live modified vaccine; 2. dogs vaccinated with the killed parvovirus vaccine; 3. non-vaccinated dogs. Statistical analysis of the information obtained by analyzing the questionnaires gave the following results: The survival rate of the non-vaccinated and killed parvovirus vaccine-vaccinated dogs was significantly higher than that of the dogs which were vaccinated by the live modified vaccine. No such difference was encountered between groups 2 and 3. This finding, once more, supports the notion that the live modified parvovirus vaccine may have an immunosuppressive property. 相似文献

A distribution to the availability of the nitrogen in sewage sludges stabilized with different processes In two pot experiments the availability of the nitrogen in sewage sludges stabilized with different processes was investigated. Further it was examined whether the Quantofix-N-Volumeter (method for rapid determination of ammonia in slurries) is able to determine the plant available nitrogen in sewage sludge. The following results were obtained: In the experiment where same amounts of total N were applied as sewage sludge a highly significant correlation existed between the amount of NH4-N applied and the N uptake of the plants. When equal amounts of NH4-N were applied the N uptake was lowest with the sewage sludges with a high relative part of NH4-N of the total N (thermophile-aerob; mesophile-anaerob). However the reason for this result was not only the lower application rate of total N with these sewage sludges but also the lower efficiency of the organically bound nitrogen. A very highly significant correlation existed between the application rate of organically bound nitrogen and the N uptake. The values of nitrogen in sewage sludges measured by the rapid method gave information about the plant available nitrogen in the year of application. A close quantitative agreement existed between the available nitrogen determined with the rapid method and the values calculated with the formula of Furrer and Bolliger (1978). 相似文献

The Brazilian Pantanal is a 138 000 km2 tropical seasonal wetland located in the center of South America bordering Bolivia and Paraguay. The Pantanal contains approximately 1100 cattle ranches, 3 million cattle, 49 000 horses and a unique diversity of wildlife. Cattle ranching is the most important economic activity in the Pantanal. This study explores the direct financial impacts of the adoption of seven treatment strategies for the control of Trypanosoma evansi in the Brazilian Pantanal. T. evansi adversely affects the health of the horse population in the region. Horses are indispensable to the cattle ranching industry in the Pantanal. Estimated costs include risk of infection, costs of diagnosis, alternative treatments, collecting animals for treatment, and costs of animal losses. The estimated total cost of T. evansi to the Pantanal region's cattle ranchers is about US$2.4 million and 6462 horses/yr. Results indicate that one preventive and two curative treatment strategies are financially justifiable. The best available technology for the treatment of T. evansi from an economic perspective is a curative treatment employed year-round. This treatment represents an annual net benefit of more than US$2 million or US$1845/ranch and spares about 5783 horses. It represents an annual net benefit of over US$200 000 and 600 horses relative to the currently most widely adopted strategy. 相似文献

The Asian bush mosquito (Aedes japonicus japonicus, Theobald 1901) is an invasive culicid species which originates in Asia but is nowadays present in northern America and Europe. It is a competent vector for several human disease pathogens. In addition to the public health threat, this invasive species may also be an ecological threat for native container-breeding mosquitoes which share a similar larval habitat. Therefore, it is of importance to gain knowledge on ecological and eco-toxicological features of the Asian bush mosquito. However, optimal laboratory feeding conditions have not yet been established. Standardized feeding methods will be needed in assessing the impact of insecticides or competitional strength of this species. To fill this gap, we performed experiments on food quality and quantity for Ae. j. japonicus larvae. We found out that the commercial fish food TetraMin (Tetra, Melle, Germany) in a dose of 10 mg per larva is the most suitable food tested. We also suggest a protocol with a feeding sequence of seven portions for all larval stages of this species. 相似文献

The extension of the ripening season in open field production is of high economic interest for strawberry growers. Therefore, targeted breeding for extreme early or late ripening cultivars with high yield potential is of particular interest. Thirteen strawberry cultivars were crossed in a reciprocal way without selfing, and the 144 resulting F1 populations were evaluated in a field trial over a period of two consecutive years. The data were analysed using a mixed‐model approach adapted for diallel crossing designs using SAS 9.3. The variability in the crossing approach is mainly based on the general combining ability (GCA) of the cultivars (additive effects). Specific and reciprocal combining abilities (non‐additive effects) appear less important. The highest GCAs for the trait Marketable Yield were found for the cultivars ‘Polka’ and ‘Yamaska’. The trait Earliness is bilateral with significantly low GCAs for early ripening in ‘Clery’ and ‘Daroyal’ and significantly high GCAs for late ripening in ‘Yamaska’ and ‘Florence’. Crosses with these cultivars are likely to deliver populations with both high yield and an extended ripening period. 相似文献
