The performance of spinning basket membrane (SBM) module was tested for the separation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) from wastewater. The SBM performance was examined using 50 kDa polyethersulfone ultrafiltration membrane under different parametric conditions. Also, the effects of rotational speed and transmembrane pressure on permeate flux and PVA rejection were investigated. The rotational speed played a significant role in decreasing membrane fouling by reducing the particle deposition on the membrane surface due to enhanced turbulence and shear force. Also, the in-built hydrodynamic cleaning facility of the SBM module allowed easy cleaning of the membrane. The steady-state value of percentage rejection of PVA was above 90% when the steady-state permeate flux value was above 54% of its initial value. The results suggested that spinning basket membrane module was efficient as well as economical for the separation of PVA from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Guggal (Commiphora wightii (Arnott) Bhandari comb. nov.) is a small tree which is tapped for medicinally important oleo?Cgum?Cresin. Naturally infected plant oozes oleo?Cgum?Cresin from its trunk and primary branches. However, in either case, the plant dies slowly after oozing. A bacterium was established to be responsible for these phenomena. Four isolates of this bacterium were characterised by biochemical tests, Biolog GN2 microplate reaction, rDNA sequencing, which suggested that the pathogen belonged to the genus Xanthomonas. However, phylogenetic analysis based on chaperone protein (dnaK) gene, TonB?Cdependent receptor (fyuA) gene, DNA gyrase B (gyrB) gene and RNA polymerase sigma factor (rpoD) gene sequences placed it as a member of X. axonopodis 9.2 rep?CPCR/DNA?CDNA homology cluster close to X. perforans, X. alfalfae and X. euvesicatoria. Further elucidation of phylogenetic position of the test strains was achieved from a gyrB based tree considering sequences from 71 representative strains. Test strains were confirmed to be members of X. axonopodis. These had very narrow infectivity limited to Commiphora spp. Hence, we propose a novel pathovar, X. axonopodis pv. commiphoreae pv. nov. as the cause of gum oozing in guggal. Pathotype is DXA 01 = CFBP 7580 = LMG 26789.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to measure the in situ soil CO2 flux from grassland, afforested land and reclaimed coalmine overburden dumps by using the automated soil CO2 flux system (LICOR‐8100® infrared gas analyzer, LICOR Inc., Lincoln, NE). The highest soil CO2 flux was observed in natural grassland (11·16 µmol CO2 m−2s−1), whereas the flux was reduced by 38 and 59 per cent in mowed site and at 15‐cm depth, respectively. The flux from afforested area was found 5·70 µmol CO2 m−2s−1, which is 50 per cent lower than natural grassland. In the reclaimed coalmine overburden dumps, the average flux under tree plantation was found to be lowest in winter and summer (0·89–1·12 µmol CO2 m−2s−1) and highest during late monsoon (3–3·5 µmol CO2 m−2s−1). During late monsoon, the moisture content was found to be higher (6–7·5 per cent), which leads to higher microbial activity and decomposition. In the same area under grass cover, soil CO2 flux was found to be higher (8·94 µmol CO2 m−2s−1) compared with tree plantation areas because of higher root respiration and microbial activity. The rate of CO2 flux was found to be determined predominantly by soil moisture and soil temperature. Our study indicates that the forest ecosystem plays a crucial role in combating global warming than grassland; however, to reduce CO2 flux from grassland, mowing is necessary. Sub-optimum production in pineapple fields in India is a common feature in Alfisols. The diagnosis and management of nutrient constraints assume a greater significance in maximizing production sustainability. DRIS norms were computed from the data bank of 324 sub-plots on leaf mineral composition, soil available nutrients, and corresponding mean yield representing three diverse pineapple belts for 3 seasons during 2002 –04. DRIS norms derived primarily from basal portion of ‘D'leaves sampled at 4th to 5th month suggested optimum leaf nutrient concentration viz. 1.21–1.85% nitrogen (N), 0.13–0.18% phosphorus (P), 1.19–1.62% potassium (K), 0.27–0.35% calcium (Ca), 0.43–0.56% magnesium (Mg), and 78.4–102.5 iron (Fe), 41.5–58.3 manganese (Mn), 7.4–10.2 copper (Cu), and 12.2–15.8 zinc (Zn) (ppm) in relation to fruit yield of 55–72 tons ha?1. Likewise, DRIS norms for soil fertility corresponding to similar level of fruit yield were determined. The norms were further observed validating the leaf/soil test values obtained from productive plots, suggesting the DRIS as a dynamic interpretation tool for diagnosis of nutrient constraints using both, leaf as well as soil analysis.  相似文献

Sixteen tenorrhaphies were performed at the mid-metatarsal region in eight buffalo calves under lignocaine epidural analgesia. A 2 cm long gap was created in the superficial digital flexor (SDF) tendon and immediately repaired with acellular grafts in animals of group I, 1% glutaraldehyde-preserved tendon allografts in group II. In group III, the defect was repaired with autografts. This group served as control. The contralateral limb in each animal was operated after an interval of 60 days and the animals underwent the same procedure according to the designed groups. Diclofenac sodium and Enrofloxacin was given post-operatively for 5 days. Clinical examination revealed significant increase (P < 0.05) in rectal temperature, heart and respiratory rate for 3-4 postoperative days in all the animals. Mild pain and exudation as well as early restoration of tendon gliding movements and weight-bearing were observed earlier in group I in comparison with group II. Air-tendograms revealed early organization, minimal adhesion formation and lesser thickening of tendon at the reconstructive site in the acellular group whereas in the glutaraldehyde group dense homogenous swelling with adhesions was seen along the flexors. Angiography on day 30 showed that the area of proximal and distal host tendon graft junction appeared hypervascularized, whereas the area occupied by the graft appeared relatively less vascularized. Normal vascularization was observed on day 90 in all the three groups.  相似文献

Leaf blight disease was found on Gloriosa superba L. (Liliaceae), an endangered, herbaceous, perennial, climbing lily that produces colchicine, in West Bengal, India in 2004. Small brownish spots on leaves developed into concentric rings, which eventually darkened and coalesced to blight the entire leaf. The causal fungus was morphologically identified as Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler. This is the first record of A. alternata on G. superba.  相似文献

The antidiarrhoeal activity of the methanol extract of the dried seeds of Strychnos potatorum (MESP) has been evaluated out in rats using different models (castor oil-induced diarrhoea, effects on gastrointestinal motility and on PGE(2)-induced gastric enteropooling. MESP (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly (P<0.001) inhibited the frequency of defaecation and reduced the wetness of faecal droppings in castor oil-induced diarrhoea, decreased the propulsion of charcoal meal through the gastrointestinal tract, and also reduced the PGE(2)-induced enteropooling.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate healing of a radial osteotomy repaired by application of dynamic axial fixation devices (DAF) in large ruminants. STUDY DESIGN: In vivo study of bone healing after application of 2 DAF types. Model I had 2 sidebars, each with a central cylindrical cuff (internally threaded) with 2 detachable connecting rods telescoping within the cuff. Model II had 2 side bars with 2 moveable clamps with multiple holes. SAMPLE POPULATION: Bull calves (n=8; aged, 1.5-2.0 years; weighing, 175-250 kg). METHODS: A mid-diaphyseal radial osteotomy was repaired by use of a model I (n=4) or model II (n=4) DAF. Calves were monitored for weight bearing, stability of fixation, and radiographically for fracture reduction, alignment and healing at intervals for 6 months. Fixators were removed when there was radiographic evidence of healing. RESULTS: Both the fixators were well tolerated with free movement of adjacent joints. Fragment fixation was maintained until healing in all but 1 model I calf where failure occurred within 7 days. Model II DAF provided more rigid fixation as indicated by early full weight bearing and fracture healing with less callus formation. Functional recovery of repaired limbs occurred within 60 days in surviving calves. CONCLUSIONS: Both bilateral DAFs were easy to apply; however, the model II DAF provided better fixation. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The model II DAF made of low carbon steel was economical and may be useful for treating long bone fractures in large ruminants.  相似文献
