The lipid composition of Collembola and their potential food resources was assessed in three deciduous forest stands, in order to gain insight into food web linkages under field conditions. Fatty acids (FAs) previously assigned as trophic markers in laboratory experiments were used to investigate feeding strategies in situ. As potential food sources soil microbiota and plant debris were characterised by their phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) composition. Both the amount and the pattern of PLFAs differed between sites and soil depth, in particular the bacterial and plant marker FAs in the upper soil layer. Thus, the availability of resources for micro-detritivores varied due to forest and soil layer. The lipid composition of vital and senescent beech leaves was predominantly influenced by metabolic status and represented a quite homogenous FA resource across forest stands. Comparing Folsomia quadrioculata, Lepidocyrtus lignorum, Neanura muscorum and Pogonognathellus longicornis between the different forests revealed FA profiles to be predominantly affected by site, suggesting a diet shift depending on resources at hand. However, species-specific differences in individual FAs occurred, likely related to feeding strategy and physiological activity. Lipids of Collembola comprised low amounts of bacterial marker FAs, and bacterial consumption may occur to some extent, particularly on Gram-positives. The marker FA for predatory feeding, 20:1ω9, was found in several species, although in low amounts. This contradicts known feeding habits and caution is advisable in using 20:1ω9 as trophic marker. Overall, as indicated by high proportions of oleic (18:1ω9) or linoleic (18:2ω6,9) acid, most species were either plant litter or fungal feeders, with some transitions. The ratio 18:1ω9/18:2ω6,9 is proposed as a tool to distinguish between these two major feeding strategies in Collembola.  相似文献

Objective To report the biometric values and ultrasonographic aspects of the normal eye of the Striped owl (Rhinoptynx clamator). Sample population Twenty‐seven healthy, free‐living, adult Striped owls from the Ecological Park of Tiete Veterinary Ambulatory (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Procedures Both eyes of all owls underwent B‐mode ultrasonographic examination and biometry was performed for lens axial length (WL), depth of the anterior (AC) and vitreous (VC) chambers, axial length of the globe (LB) and the pecten oculi (LP) of both eyes, using a 12 MHz probe. The owls were manually restrained without sedation and the eyes were topically anesthetized. Results Biometric and statistical findings were as follows: in the left eye, the means and standard deviations were: LB = 23.76 ± 0.92 mm, WL = 7.79 ± 0.27 mm, AC = 4.27 ± 0.47 mm, VC = 11.36 ± 0.29 mm and LP = 5.69 ± 0.50 mm; in the right eye, the values were: LB = 24.25 ± 0.79 mm, WL = 8.03 ± 0.40 mm, AC = 4.56 ± 0.52 mm, VC = 11.40 ± 0.25 mm, and LP = 5.68 ± 0.41 mm. No significant differences were found between left and right eyes measurements of LB, WL, AC, VC, and LP dimensions. Conclusions Ocular ultrasound aspects and biometric values of the Striped owl are reported. The study’s results provide means for various ocular measurements. The ultrasound is an easy and safe exam to be performed in the Striped owl’s eyes.  相似文献

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a fecal-orally transmitted member of the genus Hepevirus that causes acute hepatitis in humans and is widely distributed throughout the world. Pigs have been reported as the main source of genotypes 3 and 4 infection to humans in non-endemic areas. To investigate HEV infection in pigs from different regions of Pará state (Eastern Brazilian Amazon), we performed serological and molecular analyses of serum, fecal and liver samples from 151 adult pigs slaughtered between April and October 2010 in slaughterhouses in the metropolitan region of Belém, Pará. Among the animals tested, 8.6% (13/151) were positive for anti-HEV IgG but not for anti-HEV IgM. HEV RNA was detected in 4.8% (22/453) of the samples analyzed and 9.9% (15/151) of the animals had at least one positive sample. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all sequences belonged to genotype 3 that were related to human isolates from other non-endemic regions, suggesting that the isolates had zoonotic potential. Subtypes 3c and 3f were simultaneously detected in some pigs, suggesting co-infection by more than one strain and/or the presence of a recombinant virus. These results constitute the first molecular and serologic evidence of swine HEV circulation in the Eastern Brazilian Amazon.  相似文献

Although the information on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) in plants under water deficit is often obtained from sensors attached to satellites, the increasing data acquisition with portable sensors has wide applicability in agricultural production because it is a fast, nondestructive method, and is less prone to interference problems. Thus, we carried out a set of experiments to investigate the influence of time, spatial plant arrangements, sampling size, height of the sensor and water regimes on NDVI readings in different soybean cultivars in greenhouse and field trials during the crop seasons 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14. In experiments where plants were always evaluated under well-watered conditions, we observed that 9 a.m. was the most suitable time for NDVI readings regardless of the soybean cultivar, spatial arrangement or environment. Furthermore, there was no difference among NDVI readings in relation to the sampling size, regardless of the date or cultivar. We also observed that NDVI tended to decrease according to the higher height of the sensor in relation to the canopy top, with higher values tending to be at 0.8 m, but with no significant difference relative to 1.0 m—the height we adopted in our experiments. When different water regimes were induced under field conditions, NDVI readings measured at 9 a.m. by using a portable sensor were successful to differentiate soybean cultivars with contrasting responses to drought.  相似文献

We investigated the Collembola community at an arable field where mineral and organic fertilizers have been applied at low and high rates for 27 years. As food resources for Collembola, the soil microbial community was analyzed using phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs). A special focus was put on AM fungi, which were estimated by the marker 16:1ω5 in PLFA (viable hyphae) and neutral lipid fatty acid (NLFA – storage fat in spores) fractions. Additionally, whole cellular lipids in crop plant tissues and manure were assessed. Greater Collembola species richness occurred in plots where mineral fertilizer was added. In contrast, soil microbial biomass including AM fungal hyphae increased with addition of organic fertilizer, while the amount of AM fungal spores and biomass of saprotrophic fungi were not affected by fertilizer type. The lipid pattern in wheat roots was altered by fertilizer type, application rate and their interaction, indicating different rhizosphere communities. In sum, the availability and composition of food resources for Collembola changed considerably due to farm management practice. The major diet of three dominant Collembola species, Isotoma viridis, Willemia anophthalma and Polyacanthella schäffer was determined by lipid profiling. Multivariate analysis demonstrated species specific lipid patterns, suggesting greater importance of species than management practice on the diet choice. Nevertheless, feeding strategy was affected by fertilizer type and availability of resources, as trophic biomarker fatty acids indicated feeding on wheat roots (and to some extent saprotrophic fungi) with mineral and a shift to soil organic matter (litter, detritus) with organic fertilization. Although AM fungi dominated the soil fungal community, the AMF marker 16:1ω5 was not detected in Collembola lipids, indicating that these were not consumed. The very low amount of saprotrophic fungi in the soil and the fact that Collembola as major fungal grazers did not feed on AM fungi indicates that the fungal energy channel in the investigated arable field is of little importance to the faunal food web.  相似文献

Summary To study the genetic control of hullability in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), 36 hybrids, produced by a factorial cross of six male sterile and six restorer lines, were evaluated in two locations in Spain and one in France. Hullability was calculated as the ratio of the quantity of hull removed by a mechanical huller compared with total hull content. In dry conditions in Spain, hullability was twice (83.1%) that observed in France (41.5%). In all locations, male, fernale and interaction effects were significant. Estimates of narrow sense heritability varied between 0.78 and 0.82, values similar to those for other seed characters such as oil content. There were positive genetic and phenotypic correlations between hullability and 1000 seed weight (means 0.81 and 0.74, respectively) but negative correlations with seed oil content (–0.73 and –0.68, respectively). It is concluded that selection in early segregating generations of crosses involving good hulling material needs a specific strategy in order to maintain reasonable levels of oil and protein contents in the seed of the selected genotypes.  相似文献

Summary The hullabilities of 40 inbred lines (20 male sterility maintainers and 20 male fertility restorers) and 36 hybrids were studied in several environments in France. Thousand seed weight, oil and hull contents and the quantity of hulls remaining with the kernel after hulling were also measured. Principal component analyses and a hierarchical clustering method were used to described the variation of both inbreds and hybrids. Hullability varied from 11 to 66% for inbreds and 16 to 60% for hybrids. This variation is sufficient to permit breeding programmes for this character. Hullability is correlated positively with hull content (r=0.35* to 0.69*) but negatively with oil content (r=–0.34*to–0.71**). Large seeds generally hull better than small seed (r=0.21ns to –0.66**). The value of the different classes of genotypes is discussed. Inbreds and hybrids producing achenes with a quite small hull content, a high oil content but a good hullability are the most promising for improvement of the quality of sunflower seed meal. Such genotypes are rare so that a recurrent selection programme is recommended to increase the frequency of favorable genes.  相似文献
