We question the validity of the results and the conclusions from a study entitled “The potential effect of climate change on the geographical distribution of insect pest species in the Swedish boreal forest” that was recently published in Scandinavian Journal of Forest Research. The main problem is that for several of the species the current geographical distributions presented in the paper (based on modeling of a limited set of occurrence data) are vastly underestimated compared with distribution maps in standard reference literature and other available occurrence data. As a consequence of that the predicted major future range expansions of these important pest species are also erroneous.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to estimate a basal area growth model for individual trees in uneven-aged Caspian forests. A survey was conducted in order to find a natural forest without any harvesting activities, a so called ‘untouched forest’ and an area was selected from the Iranian Caspian forest. Three sample plots in the same aspect and of the same forest type were selected. In each plot, total tree height, diameter at breast height, distance of neighbor trees and azimuth were measured. Thirty trees were selected and drilled with increment borer to determine the increment model. Regression analysis was used to estimate the growth model. Results show that, for individual trees, there is a significant nonlinear relationship between the annual basal area increment, as the dependent variable, and the basal area. The results also show that the basal area of competing trees has a positive influence on growth. That the increment is higher with more competing neighboring trees is possibly because plots with higher volume per hectare and more competition, most likely also have higher site index or better soil or better site productivity than the plot with lower volume per hectare.  相似文献

Oxidation of the myofibrillar muscle protein myosin from pork by hypervalent myoglobin species (MbFe(III)/H 2O2 radical generating system) was investigated in aqueous solution in the pH range of 5.0-7.8 by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy using N- tert-butyl-alpha-phenylnitrone (PBN) as spin trap and indirectly by determination of the rate of reduction of hypervalent myoglobin species by UV spectroscopy. Cross-linking of myosin was examined by SDS-PAGE. The target for oxidative modification of myosin was studied by thiol blocking by N-acetylmaleimide (NEM) and by determining oxidative modification of myosin thiols. The reaction between myosin and hypervalent myoglobin was fast and showed little dependence on pH. The myosin radicals formed were observed to be short-lived. Myosin thiols are suggested to be the main target for oxidative modification, as NEM-treated myosin did not form radicals in the presence of hypervalent myoglobin. A significant decrease in thiol content was already demonstrated 25 s after initiation of oxidation of myosin. The majority of myosin heavy chain (MHC) was demonstrated to be cross-linked through intermolecular disulfide bonding 1 h after initiation of oxidation. This demonstrates that thiols are important for radical formation and cross-linking of myosin during oxidation with hypervalent myoglobin at the pH of meat products.  相似文献

The effect of a second mutant allele (V199I, here denoted rn*) at the PRKAG3 (RN) locus on carcass composition was determined in 334 pigs, entire males and females, from crosses between Swedish Hampshire (H) and Finnish Landrace (L) (H × LH; LH × H; LH × LH). Pigs were classified according to DNA test into the following PRKAG3 genotypes: RN/RN (23%), RN/rn+ (24%), RN/rn* (33%), rn+/rn+ (8%), rn+/rn* (9%) and rn*/rn* (2%). The pigs were slaughtered at a commercial slaughterhouse and assessed 24 h postmortem. Right sides were fabricated into primary wholesale cuts, then further processed into defatted hams and loins, and a subset of hams (n = 122) was dissected into the five major individual muscles. The genotype frequencies for the subsample were RN/RN (27%), RN/rn+ (20%), RN/rn* (35%), rn+/rn+ (9%), rn+/rn* (8%) and rn*/rn* (1%). Weights were recorded for meat and bone in ham and loin, fat in ham, back and shoulder and the individual dissected muscles. The genotype effect was significant (P < 0.05) for estimated lean meat content and the proportions of meat and bone and fat in ham and loin (of carcass weight). Also, the content of meat and bone in ham and loin, in proportion of whole ham and loin, respectively, differed significantly (P < 0.01) between genotypes. Estimated lean meat content was highest for RN/RN (63.0%) and RN/rn+ (63.1%) and lowest in the combined group rn*/ (rn+/rn* and rn*/rn*, 61.7%); RN/rn* (62.5%) and rn+/rn+(62.1%) were intermediate. The same results were found for meat and bone in ham and loin, as a proportion of whole ham and loin, respectively. RN/RN and RN/rn+ did not differ in any trait; however, they produced carcasses with the lowest proportions of fat within loin and the major wholesale cuts (ham, loin and shoulder). The carcass percentage of meat and bone in ham was higher in the three RN/ genotypes (RN/RN, RN/rn+ and RN/rn*, P < 0.05) than in the rn*/ group, whereas rn+/rn+ did not (P > 0.05) differ from any of the other genotypes. RN/rn+ and RN/rn* had higher (P < 0.05) proportion of meat and bone in loin compared to the rn*/ group. We conclude that the second mutant allele found at the PRKAG3 (RN) locus, rn*, decreased the lean meat content compared with the two other alleles (RN, rn+). The RN/RN and RN/rn+ genotypes were leanest, followed by RN/rn* and rn+/rn+, and rn+/rn* and rn*/rn* were the fattest.  相似文献

A two-stage stochastic model with binary choice in the first stage has been developed to optimise the upgrading of a real-world forest road network, geographically located in the middle of Sweden. We have compared the model with solutions to the same problem from deterministic scenario analysis. Upgrade policies can be achieved swiftly using both approaches, since the road network is of moderate size. However, a deterministic approach is considerably faster when larger problems are involved. The study here, furthermore, indicates that deterministic scenario analysis provides us with quick, near-optimal solutions to the stochastic model, which are of reasonable good quality. We conclude that the model used here is rather insensitive to uncertainty in critical period length, such as the length of spring thaw, at least when applied to the medium-sized problem presented here. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend the use of the stochastic model whenever possible, since the stochastic and deterministic solutions differ, due to the hedging effect in the stochastic solution.  相似文献

Manufacturing products with greater added value is increasingly viewed as a strategic goal of forest products industries. Added value is defined here as the difference in economic value between the physical inputs and outputs of a production process, and is generally analysed at the firm or national economy level. In this study we identify and discuss issues involved in quantifying added value at the industrial process level, and develop a bottom-up method to estimate the value added by forest industry processes. We calculate the value added by 14 traditional and emerging processes within the Swedish forest products industries, and express the results using various indices. We find that the type of biomass input strongly influences the potential for adding value, with sawlogs allowing more added value and being less sensitive to input price fluctuations than pulpwood and forest residues. Structural wood products such as lumber and glue-laminated beams are found to give the greatest value added. Co-production of multiple products from a single raw material increases total value added. Integrating the value chain of pulp and paper production significantly increases the value added to pulpwood. Multiple conversion processes exist for using forest residues as fuel, with a range of potential added value. Consideration of the climate benefits of forest product use, through the application of a carbon tax, significantly increases the added value.  相似文献

Abstract. Emissions of ammonia (NH3) and nitrous oxide (N2O), and nitrate (NO-3) leaching were measured in two field experiments following application of pig slurry at rates corresponding to 83–96 kg NH4-N ha-1 before sowing. In spring and in autumn 1994, slurry was applied by four methods: trenching (T), shallow injection (S), band spreading immediately followed by harrowing (B/H) and band spreading (B). NH3 emission measurements were made during the first week after application in both experiments. In the spring experiment N2O emissions and NO-3 leaching were measured during 6 and 52 weeks after spreading respectively, and during 11 and 33 weeks after spreading in the autumn experiment. In spring, the increased N2O emissions (i.e. control subtracted) ranged from 0.27% (T) to 0.45% (B/H), and in the autumn study from 0.92% (T) to 1.14% (B/H), of applied NH4-N, although showing no statistically significant differences. In order to validate the chamber measurements, a ‘megachamber’(21 m2) was used together with an infrared spectrometer. The emissions agreed well for (B/H), while (B) resulted in lower emissions compared with the smaller chambers. Emissions of NH3 were about one order of magnitude higher. In spring, (B) gave the highest emission, reaching 19.5% of applied NH4-N, whereas (S), and (B/H) gave the lowest emissions, reaching 1.2 and 3.5% of applied NH4-N, respectively. NH3 emissions in autumn were 15–20% lower compared with spring. In spring the increased nitrate leaching ranged from 10.1 (T) to 24.9 kg ha-1 (B/H) and from 29.5 (B) to 37.8 kg ha-1 (T) in the autumn experiment, showing no statistically significant differences. Estimations of indirect N2O emissions due to ammonia deposition and nitrate leaching, suggested that the N2O contribution from NH3 deposition was relatively small, while the indirect N2O emissions from NO-3 leaching were of the same order of magnitude or higher than the direct N2O emissions.  相似文献

The content of aroma compounds (dynamic headspace) and catalytic activity of lipoxygenase (LOX) (EC. 1.13.11.12) were analyzed in 15 mm unblanched leek slices seven times during 12 months of frozen storage. The aroma profile changed from consisting of almost only sulfur compounds such as dipropyl disulfide [concentration in fresh leek (FL) = 0.197 mg/L, concentration after 12 months of frozen storage (12M) = 0.0409 mg/L] and propyl (E)-propenyl disulfide (FL = 0.0437 mg/L, 12M = 0.00452 mg/L) in the fresh leeks to being dominated by numerous saturated and unsaturated aldehydes, such as hexanal (FL = 1.53 mg/L, 12M = 3.63 mg/L), (E,E)-2,4-nonadienal (FL = 0.000 mg/L, 12M = 0.0647 mg/L), and (E,E)-2,4-decadienal (FL = 0.129 mg/L, 12M = 0.594 mg/L) at the end of the storage period. The catalytic activity of LOX diminished throughout frozen storage, but approximately 25% of the original activity was present after 12 months of storage.  相似文献

Mass mortality events are ubiquitous in nature and can be caused by, for example, diseases, extreme weather and human perturbations such as contamination. Despite being prevalent and rising globally, how mass mortality in early life causes population-level effects such as reduced total population biomass, is not fully explored. In particular for fish, mass mortality affecting early life may be dampened by compensatory density-dependent processes. However, due to large variations in year-class strength, potentially caused by density-independent variability in survival, the impact at the population level may be high in certain years. We quantify population-level impacts at two levels of mass mortality (50% and 99% additional mortality) during early life across 40 fish species using age-structured population dynamics models. The findings from these species-specific models are further supported by an analysis of detailed stock-specific models for three of the species. We find that population impacts are highly variable between years and species. Short-lived species that exhibit a low degree of compensatory density dependence and high interannual variation in survival experience the strongest impacts at the population level. These quantitative and general relationships allow predicting the range of potential impacts of mass mortality events on species based on their life history. This is critical considering that the frequency and severity of mass mortality events are increasing worldwide.  相似文献
