To suppress the activity of house dust mites in tatami mats, where they tend to breed, a tatami mat consisting of hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtuse) wood-wool was prepared. The suppressive effect of hinoki wood-wool on house dust mites (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) was then measured. To investigate the effective period of the wood-wool on the mites, 5-day exposure tests were conducted
every few weeks for a total of 52 weeks. In the tests of the first and sixth weeks, the activity of the mites was strongly
suppressed, and no walking or moving mite was found after 5 days of exposure. The suppressive effect on mites was maintained
for 52 weeks. It was concluded that using hinoki wood-wool to produce tatami mats is an effective method of suppressing the

A new system was developed for measuring soil CO2 efflux. The chamber in this system contains a small infrared CO2 gas analyzer. This system does not need air tubes or pumps for circulating air, so it is expected to offer the advantages of mobility and durability. This system was verified by a comparison with measurements made by using a closed-dynamic-chamber (CDC) system. The spatial variation in the soil CO2 efflux in a broadleaved deciduous forest was measured using the new system. The soil CO2 efflux at sampling locations 50–70cm apart varied within a range of 60%–150%. High moisture content, flat sawn Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) veneer was compressed using a roller press to mechanically remove water. The amount of water removed depended on the amount of compression applied. At 60% compression, 400kg/m3 of water was removed. The process was not dependent on the size of the wood, the degree of compression, or the feed speed of the specimen. After compression, the remaining water contents were evenly distributed throughout the veneer regardless of the length of the specimen. The specimens did not completely recover to original thickness. High compression ratio and low temperature intensified the reduction of thickness. Nutrient load management is an important environmental issue because nutrient loads from farmlands degrade surface waters as a result of anthropogenic eutrophication. Nitrogen load from a large sized paddy field during the crop period was examined from the results of field measurements carried out in 2004. The 1.5 ha paddy field was located east of Biwa Lake. Irrigation water volume and ponded water depth were continuously observed. Field measurements were carried out at least once a week to analyze total nitrogen (TN) concentration in the irrigation water and ponded water. Daily inflow and outflow of nitrogen was obtained by multiplication of the nitrogen concentration and transported water volume, consisting of irrigation, precipitation, evapotranspiration, percolation and surface discharge. Water outflow volume was calculated by a tank model that consisted of three small tanks connected to represent ponded water depth differences in the large paddy field. The calculated nitrogen load was 18.8 kg ha−1, with 7.2 kg ha−1 from surface drainage and 11.6 kg ha−1 from percolation loss. The runoff nitrogen value of 18.8 kg ha−1 was within the range of the reported values investigated in a medium-sized paddy field. The observed value was close to the value for a low percolation flux paddy field where less irrigation water has been applied. These results suggest that less irrigation water keep runoff nitrogen low. This also indicates that irrigation water management can reduce nitrogen load from large sized paddy fields. 相似文献

We examined the effect of flavones on the expression of the high-affinity IgE receptor FcepsilonRI, which plays a central role in the IgE-mediated allergic response. Flow cytometric analysis showed that the flavones chrysin and apigenin were able to reduce the cell surface expression of FcepsilonRI in human basophilic KU812 cells. Immunoblot analysis revealed that the total cellular expression of the FcepsilonRI alpha and gamma chains decreased upon treatment with chrysin and apigenin. Moreover, the level of mRNA expression of the FcepsilonRI alpha and gamma chains also decreased when the cells were cultured with the two flavones. Previously, we demonstrated that the reduction of extracellular signal-regulated kinase1/2 (ERK1/2) phosphorylation was involved in the downregulation of FcepsilonRI expression. The two flavones were shown to reduce the level of ERK1/2 phosphorylation. These results suggested that chrysin and apigenin have the ability to downregulate FcepsilonRI expression and this suppressive effect may be due to the reduction of ERK1/2 phosphorylation. 相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships among cultivated landraces and natural populations of wild subspecies of Tartary buckwheat were investigated by constructing an NJ tree based on RAPD markers focussing on east Tibetan natural populations. Ten plants from three cultivated landraces and 29 plants from five natural populations of wild subspecies in eastern Tibet were used for RAPD analyses. The wild subspecies from eastern Tibet was classified into three types; (1) same type as cultivated landraces; (2) closely related to natural populations of northwestern Yunnan; and (3) an exceptional population, Zhuka, which was closely related to Sichuan populations. Since the type (2) is considered as the wild ancestral type of cultivated Tartary buckwheat, we conclude that eastern Tibet too may be one of the center of origin of this crop. 相似文献

The Porapak Q column method (PQM) was compared to the method of simultaneous distillation extraction (SDE) under reduced pressure for extraction of the volatile compounds produced by tomato cv. Momotaro. The PQM was found to be effective at trapping and isolating many low and high boiling point volatile compounds and at producing the very desirable natural ripe tomato flavor of extracts. The SDE method was less effective in isolating the higher boiling point volatile compounds and caused deterioration of volatile compounds due to the heating process that takes place during extraction, resulting in an unpleasant boiled green tomato flavor of extracts. The advantages of using the PQM are its simplicity and its high efficiency in isolating many volatile compounds from nonvolatile materials at room temperature. A total of 367 volatile compounds were isolated by the PQM. Of these, hexanal, (Z)-3-hexenal, (E)-2-hexenal, 2- and 3-methylbutanol, and 2-phenylethanol were relatively more abundant than other compounds and (Z)-3-hexenal showed the highest relative amount. 相似文献
