Enantioselective catalysts produce organic compounds in enantiomerically enriched form. They are highly efficient tools for the synthesis of biologically active materials, such as pharmaceuticals and crop-protection chemicals, in which enantiomeric purity can be critical. The design of chiral ligands is the key to developing new enantioselective catalysts. Three unusual families of ligands have been used to develop practical technology for enantioselective hydrocyanation of olefins, ring-opening of epoxides, and hydrogenation of various compounds.  相似文献

One of the primary objectives of the Oncology‐Pathology Working Group (OPWG), a joint initiative of the Veterinary Cancer Society and the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, is for oncologists and pathologists to collaboratively generate consensus documents to standardize aspects of and provide guidelines for oncologic pathology. Consensus is established through critical review of peer‐reviewed literature relevant to a subgroup's particular focus. Subsequent acceptance and approval of the document by the OPWG membership at large establishes consensus. The intent of this publication is to help educate practitioners and pathologists on the value of diagnostics related to the KIT receptor tyrosine kinase for canine cutaneous mast cell tumours and to provide a guide for the use of these tests in veterinary medicine. This document represents the opinions of the OPWG and the authors and does not constitute a formal endorsement by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists or the Veterinary Cancer Society.  相似文献

Hypocobalaminaemia in cats has previously been identified, but the incidence reported has varied, and the frequency of folate deficiency is unknown. The aims of this study were to evaluate the incidence of low cobalamin and folate levels in a population of cats that were suffering predominantly from diseases of the alimentary tract (including the liver and pancreas) and to ascertain whether severity of disease (as assessed by bodyweight and body condition score (BCS)) related to degree of deficiency. The study population comprised 103 cats, of which 16.5% had low cobalamin levels and 38.8% had low folate levels. A serendipitous finding was inorganic phosphate levels below the reference range in 48% of the cases. Significant associations were found between subnormal cobalamin levels and median BCS (P=0.049); combined low folate and low cobalamin and bodyweight (P=0.002), BCS (P=0.024) and inorganic phosphate levels (P=0.003). The finding of low levels of folate and cobalamin in clinical cases suggests that supplementation may be indicated more frequently than is currently recognised.  相似文献

Objective— To describe a technique of decompressive craniotomy with cystoperitoneal shunt (CPS) placement for treatment of canine intracranial arachnoid cyst (IAC), and to evaluate outcome in 4 dogs. Study Design— Retrospective study. Animals— Dogs (n=4) with IAC. Methods— Medical records of dogs diagnosed with IAC by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; 3 dogs) or computed tomography (CT; 1 dog) were evaluated. All dogs had varying degrees of neurologic dysfunction before surgery. A combined lateral (rostrotentorial)/suboccipital craniotomy was performed sacrificing the transverse sinus on the operated side. The rostral (ventricular) end of a low‐pressure valve shunt (3.0 mm outer diameter, 7.0 cm length) was placed transversely into the cyst cavity; the distal end was placed in the peritoneal cavity. All dogs were rechecked at various intervals by ≥1 of the authors either directly, by telephone consultation with owners, or both. Three dogs were imaged postoperatively (CT–1 dog; MRI–1; ultrasonography–1). Results— Intraoperative complications were limited to excessive transverse sinus hemorrhage requiring blood transfusion in 1 dog. There were no postoperative complications. Clinical signs of neurologic dysfunction resolved in 3 dogs and improved substantially in 1 dog. The latter dog required long‐term, low‐dose corticosteroid therapy. No dogs required repeat surgery. Mean follow‐up time was 23.8 months (range, 12–43 months). Collapse of the intracranial cyst was verified in 3 dogs with repeat imaging. In 2 dogs, there was no evidence of the cyst on CT or MRI; in the third dog, a small amount of fluid was demonstrated rostral to the cerebellum on ultrasonography, but there was no identifiable cyst. In 1 dog, the rostral aspect of the shunt had shifted; however, this was not associated with any clinical deterioration. Conclusion— Craniotomy with CPS placement was well tolerated and resulted in sustained improvement or resolution of dysfunction. Cyst decompression was verified in 3 dogs that were re‐imaged. None of the patients required re‐operation. Excessive transverse sinus hemorrhage is a potential danger that may necessitate blood transfusion. Other IAC patients treated with this method will need to be evaluated to fully evaluate its effectiveness. Clinical Significance— Craniotomy with CPS placement may be an effective treatment method for dogs clinically affected with IAC.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for ADG, backfat thickness and loin eye area (LEA), and measures of feed intake and efficiency for purebred Large White boars born from 1990 to 1997. Boars from 60% of the litters were culled at weaning based on a maternal breeding value (index) of the dam, and remaining boars (n = 26,706) were grown to 100 d of age. Selection of boars for individual pen testing was based on a combination of growth and maternal indices. Boars were fed a corn-soybean meal diet that was 1.14% lysine, 19% protein, and 3,344 kcal/kg ME for approximately 77 d. Boars were weighed at the beginning and end of the test, and feed intake was recorded. Daily feed intake (DFI), ADG, and feed:gain ratio (FG) were computed. Four measures of residual feed intake (RFI) were estimated as the difference between actual feed intake and that predicted from models that included 1) initial test age and weight and test ADG (RFI1); 2) initial test age and weight, test ADG, and backfat (RFI2); 3) initial test age and weight, test ADG, and LEA (RFI3); and 4) initial test age and weight, test ADG, backfat, and LEA (RFI4). Genetic parameters were estimated using an animal model and single- or multiple-trait DFREML procedures. Models included fixed effects of contemporary groups and initial test age as a covariate and random animal and litter effects. Heritability estimates for test ADG, DFI, FG, backfat, LEA, RFI1, RFI2, RFI3, and RFI4 were .24, .23, .16, .36, .24, .17, .11, .15, and .10, respectively. Genetic correlations between ADG and backfat, ADG and LEA, ADG and DFI, and ADG and FG were .37, .36, .82, and -.32, respectively. Genetic correlations between ADG and measures of residual feed intake ranged from .11 to .18. Genetic correlations of backfat with LEA, DFI, and FG were -.27, .64, and .40, respectively. Genetic correlations of backfat with RFI measures were higher when backfat was not included in the estimation of RFI. Genetic correlations for LEA with DFI and FG were 0 and -.52, respectively. Genetic correlations for LEA with RFI measures were all negative and ranged from -.31 to -.51. Genetic correlations indicate that selection for reduced RFI could be made without adversely affecting ADG. Backfat should also decrease, and LEA should increase. The amount of change in backfat or LEA would depend on the measure of RFI used.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Plant pathogen culture collections are essential resources in our fight against plant disease and for connecting discoveries of the present with established knowledge of the past. However, available infrastructure in support of culture collections is in serious need of improvement, and we continually face the risk of losing many of these collections. As novel and reemerging plant pathogens threaten agriculture, their timely identification and monitoring depends on rapid access to cultures representing the known diversity of plant pathogens along with genotypic, phenotypic, and epidemiological data associated with them. Archiving such data in a format that can be easily accessed and searched is essential for rapid assessment of potential risk and can help track the change and movement of pathogens. The underexplored pathogen diversity in nature further underscores the importance of cataloguing pathogen cultures. Realizing the potential of pathogen genomics as a foundation for developing effective disease control also hinges on how effectively we use the sequenced isolate as a reference to understand the genetic and phenotypic diversity within a pathogen species. In this letter, we propose a number of measures for improving pathogen culture collections.  相似文献
