A 12-year-old, intact female beagle exhibited symptoms of polyuria-polydipsia and hyperorexia for two months. Blood tests showed elevated asparate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and creatine kinase levels, as well as marked hypokalemia. The results of adrenocorticotropic hormone stimulation test showed elevated cortisol, aldosterone and corticosterone concentrations. Abdominal ultrasonography confirmed a mass in the left adrenal gland. Masses were also seen in the liver and caudal vena cava. Diagnosis was a tumor of the adrenal cortex with metastases. Trilostane administration was initiated. The dog initially showed improved demeanor as a result of regulating hormone secretion. However, after 88 days, the dog weakened rapidly, before dying on the 117th day. Pathological findings confirmed a diagnosis of adrenocortical carcinoma. 相似文献

To clarify the immunohistochemical characteristics of canine ovarian cysts, 109 canine ovarian cysts (57 cysts of subsurface epithelial structures: SES, 26 graafian follicle cysts, 12 cystic rete ovarii and 14 cysts difficult to classify morphologically) were examined regarding their lining cells immunohistochemically using antibodies against placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP), S100, inhibin alpha, desmin and AE1/AE3. Both cysts of SES and cystic rete ovarii had a positive immunoreaction to desmin and AE1/AE3, whereas all cysts all but graafian follicle cysts were negative for inhibin alpha. PLAP-positive immunoreaction was observed only in cysts of SES. Graafian follicle cysts had a positive immunoreaction to inhibin alpha, but were negative for PLAP, desmin and AE1/AE3. Fourteen cysts were difficult to classify morphologically because these cysts had single-squamous lining cells and lacked other morphological characteristics. However, these unclassified cysts were immunohistochemically divided into two groups, including positive and negative cysts, by the reactivity of PLAP. The PLAP-positive cysts were considered large cysts of SES. These results suggest that PLAP was a useful marker for classification of cysts of SES, although cysts originating from SES are not always positive for this antigen. 相似文献

Canine ovarian tumors (epithelial tumor, sex-cord stromal tumor, germ cell tumor) classifying into 9 histological types were examined immunohistochemically using placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP), cytokeratin7 (CK7), desmin, S100, AE1/AE3, inhibin alpha, vimentin, and alfa feto-protein (AFP). The papillary and tubular types observed in epithelial tumors were immunoreactive for desmin and AE1/AE3. The papillary type was also immunoreactive for PLAP and CK7. The solid type, nest type, cord type, palisade type, cystic type and spindle type, which were observed in sex-cord stromal tumors, showed a positive immunoreaction for S100 but little or no positive immunoreaction for inhibin alpha with an exception of positive result in the palisade type. Most of the sex-cord stromal tumors were AE1/AE3-positive except for the palisade type. In the cobblestone type observed in germ cell tumors, only vimentin and AFP were positive. The present study elucidated the detailed histological and immunohistochemical characteristics of canine ovarian tumors. 相似文献

The digestibility and hydration properties of wet‐ground submicron‐scale rice flour were compared with those of dry‐ground coarser microscale flours. The submicron flour (mean size 0.6 µm) was produced in a wet‐media mill with 0.3 mm zirconia beads by continuous 24 h pulverization. The solubility, water absorption index, and swelling power increased as the mean particle size decreased, reaching maximum values in the submicron flour. Starch damage was high in the submicron flour, with the absence of intact starch granules. The digestibility also increased as the particle size decreased, and it was highest in the submicron flour. These results show that wet‐ground submicron rice flour has different functional properties from dry‐ground coarser flour. The digestibility was more strongly influenced by starch damage and the water absorption index than by the mean particle size. 相似文献

The relationship between the growth speed and wood properties of Pinus merkusii was investigated using 34-year-old trees planted in Indonesia in an attempt to promote the establishment of plantation of
this species. The trees in the test plot were categorized as fast, middle, or slow growing according to the mean stem diameter
and standard deviation in the plot. Five trees were selected from each category to investigate the effects of the growth rate
on the wood properties [basic density (BD) and compressive strength parallel to the grain in a 5-mm-diameter core sample (CS)].
No significant correlation was recognized between the stem diameter and the stress wave velocity of trees. Clearly lower values
of BD and CS were found in slow-growing trees than in fast- and middle-growing trees. The BD of xylem near the pith was reduced
by extraction with organic solvent. BD after extraction and CS gradually increased from pith to bark. The results obtained
in this study clarified that an early selection of trees with high BD is possible by using the BD after extraction at 4 cm

Cesium adsorption by commercial charcoals was examined to elucidate the mechanisms for capturing cesium ions in aqueous solution. Changes in the adsorption ability of charcoals due to water extraction (water washing) were investigated to develop practical cesium adsorptives based on charcoal. The commercial charcoals examined included mangrove charcoal (MC) and ubamegashi (Quercus phillyraeoides A. Gray) bincho charcoal (BC). Data from the two charcoals were compared with those of Japanese oak (Quercus serrata Thunb. and/or Quercus crispula Blume) charcoal (OC) reported previously. Aqueous cesium chloride solution (2.50 × 10?5 mol/L) was used as a sample solution for the adsorption study. Charcoal powder was used as an adsorbent after passing through a 60-mesh sieve. The powders were characterized using methods, such as Raman spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, and infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy. The results indicated that MC, which was manufactured at the lowest possible temperature and had the smallest specific surface area, possessed the greatest ability to adsorb cesium. The MC also had the great cesium-adsorption ability in weak acidic solution and maintained the ability even after lengthy extraction treatments. 相似文献

Wheat starch granules were separated from waxy wheat flour by the acetic acid (pH 3.5) fractionation technique. Waxy wheat starch samples were stained red‐brown using KI/I2 solution. Subsequently, the concentration of the KI/I2 solution was increased to >2.5% KI and 1.0% I2. Then the appearance of the waxy wheat starch granules quickly became ghostlike. The internal structure of the ghost could be observed. This structure consisted of two parts with different colors: a red‐brown central part and a slightly pinkish surrounding part. Sonication of the ghost at 20 kHz for 20 sec separated the central part from the surrounding part. Each of the separated parts were subjected to gel‐filtration chromatography, and their chromatography profiles indicated only amylopectin and no amylose. The central and surrounding parts had molecular weights of 54.3 × 105 and 23.8 × 106 from Berry plots, respectively. 相似文献
