Knowledge of wood radial growth is important for evaluating the factors that limit tree growth performance. The relevant experiments have mostly been conducted in cold and temperate ecosystems, but rarely in subtropical ecosystems.Aims
In this study, we aimed to construct a unified radial growth model for Cinnamomum kanehirae Hayata and to identify its sensitivity to temperature.Methods
The wood radial increments were quantified for 3 years by either pinning or microcoring. The radial wood growth curves were modelled integratively by semiparametric regression and individually by curve fitting. The effects of tree social class, interannual and environmental factors on radial growth were analysed quantitatively.Results
A unified S-shaped growth model for C. kanehirae was successfully constructed. By including the social class effect, the model was significantly improved. The maximum radial increment (A) was significantly correlated with the maximum growth rate (μ); both A and μ were significantly higher in dominant than in codominant trees. The time-varying radial growth rate was more sensitive to air temperature in dominant than in codominant trees.Conclusion
Semiparametric models revealed an S-shaped growth curve of C. kanehirae and confirmed the higher temperature sensitivity of dominant trees compared to codominant trees in humid subtropical areas.83.

Fallow deer were immobilised using a combination of xylazine and ketamine. Adult males (n = 10) and adult females (n = 10) received 4 mg/kg of each drug intramuscularly. Juveniles (n = 11) received 2 mg/kg of each drug, intravenously. Times to recumbency were as follows: adult males 4.9 +/- 2.9 min, adult females 4.1 +/- 1.9 min, juveniles 2.3 +/- 1.1 min. After 30 min each deer received 0.2 mg/kg of yohimbine, or an equal volume of sterile diluent intravenously. Yohimbine substantially reduced the recovery times of treated deer. Adults males were releasable 7.2 +/- 4.3 min after yohimbine administration, whereas control males were not releasable until 165 +/- 18 min. Treated adult females were releasable after 6.6 +/- 4.3 min, while control females were not releasable until 84 +/- 29 min. Juveniles were releasable 2.1 +/- 0.8 min after administration of yohimbine but control juveniles were not releasable until 62 +/- 16 min. Xylazine/ketamine administration produced statistically significant changes in packed cell volume, total plasma protein, albumin, sodium, glucose, creatine phosphokinase and inorganic phosphate values after 30 min. The metabolism of O,O-dimethyl S-[α-(carboethoxy)benzyl]phosphorodithioate (phenthoate), an organophosphorus insecticide of low mammalian toxicity, was investigated in white mice and in susceptible and resistant strains of house flies. Phenthoate was metabolized rapidly in the mouse to a wide variety of detoxication products and only an insignificant amount of phenthoate oxon was detected. The same detoxication products were produced in house flies but, compared to the mouse, substantial amounts of phenthoate oxon also were found. Four major esterases in one susceptible (CSMA) and two resistant (Hirokawa, E1) house fly strains were separated by chromatofocusing. Of the four esterases, those with pI's of 5.1 and 5.3 accounted for 90% of the p-nitrophenyl butyrate hydrolyzing activity in the three house fly strains. They also accounted for 70% (Hirokawa, E1) and 40% (CSMA) of the paraoxon-hydrolyzing activity as well as 87% (Hirokawa), 39% (E1) and 66% (CSMA) of the malathion-hydrolyzing activity in microsomes as measured by esterase-antibody interaction. In the Hirokawa strain, the pI 5.1 esterase was the predominant esterase and was more active than that of the the CSMA strain. Different substrate specificities and a different Km toward acetylthiocholine, as well as different rates of malathion and paraoxon hydrolysis between the Hirokawa and CSMA strains, suggest a qualitative difference in the pI 5.1 esterase. For the pI 5.1 esterase from the E1 strain, a different substrate specificity, a different Km for p-nitrophenyl butyrate, a different sensitivity to inhibitors, and a different rate of paraoxon hydrolysis suggest that it is a modified esterase. This esterase is not a phosphorotriester hydrolase, nor does it lack nonspecific esterase activity. It is a modified esterase which has a different substrate specificity when compared to the esterases from the other strains. The molecular weight of the esterases studied was approximately 220,000, with pH optima of about 7.0.The ratio of malathion α-monoacid to β-monoacid formation was about 9.0 for the pI 5.1 and 5.3 esterases and 1.5 for the pI 4.8 and 5.6 esterases. The existence of a higher ratio for the pI 5.1 and 5.3 esterases and their significant rate of malathion hydrolysis in the Hirokawa strain indicate that an increase in the ratio in house flies reported was due to the increase in the pI 5.1 esterase in the resistant strain. 相似文献
