Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has become an important diagnostic tool in the investigation of foot pain in horses. The aim of this study was to qualitatively compare ex-vivo MR images of the same equine feet obtained at three magnetic field strengths: 0.27, 1.5, and 3 tesla (T). Ten cadaver feet were used. All feet were imaged with two high-field systems (3T, 1.5T) and with a low-field (LF) system at 0.27 T designed for standing horses. Images were acquired using similar pulse sequences in all 3 MR units. MR images were subjectively evaluated by three independent experienced image analysts for image quality and clarity of visualization of individual anatomical structures using a four-point grading scale. The images from all of the examinations were considered to be of diagnostic value except for the hoof capsule where substantial artifacts were present in LF images with distortion and loss of signal at the dorsal/distal aspect of the hoof capsule in LF images. Anatomical structure scoring values of images obtained at 3T and 1.5T were significantly greater than scores of images obtained at 0.27T. Scores for images obtained at 3T were significantly higher than those for images obtained at 1.5T. Mean score differences between 1.5T and 3T were higher for cartilage of the distal interphalangeal joint and for the ungular cartilages. 相似文献

Imazalil, incorporated in a solid nutrient medium, had no effect on the sporulation of Penicillium italicum at concentrations that did not strongly inhibit mycelial growth. However, when the fungus was grown submerged in liquid culture, sporulation of P. italicum appeared to be more affected than vegetative growth; at 33 nM, imazalil completely prevented the formation of penicilli without adverse effects on growth. Imazalil was able to prevent sporulation in the vapour phase as shown by scanning electron microscopy on P. italicum and Aspergillus niger; the vapours of the compound were found to affect different stages of the sporulation process, depending on the timing of the experiment. Thus, in order to show antisporulant activity, imazalil had to reach the target site by means other than migration within the fungus. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Physiologic leukopenia in Tervuren dogs was reported in North America with a higher frequency in aged Tervurens. If not recognized, physiologic leukopenia can provoke unnecessary clinical investigations. HYPOTHESIS: The primary objective was to compare Tervurens and control dogs in Belgium with respect to the numbers of dogs with physiologic leukopenia. The secondary objectives were to compare Tervurens with control dogs and age classes within Tervurens and controls for parameters related to physiologic leukopenia. ANIMALS: Tervurens (n = 94) and control dogs (n = 48, maximum of 5 dogs per breed and 5 mixed breed dogs) were entered into the study. Dogs were 1-11 years old and healthy on routine physical examination. Dogs had no history of disease or drug administration in the previous 2 months. METHODS: Hematologic analyses were performed by an automated device within 30 hours of sampling. Blood smears were evaluated for cellular morphologic anomalies. RESULTS: Only 1 of the 94 Tervuren dogs had physiologic leukopenia (1.06%; 95% confidence interval, 0.05-5.22). Furthermore, the white blood cell (WBC) count in Tervuren dogs (median, 10.00 x 109/L; range, 5.90-20.80) was not significantly different (P = .55) from that of control dogs (median, 9.75 x 109/L; range, 5.20-20.90). The WBC count decreased significantly (P < .001) with age in Tervuren dogs. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: Physiologic leukopenia is uncommon in the Belgian Tervuren dog. Differences with earlier data published in North America might be due to genetic or environmental differences. 相似文献

A 6‐year‐old domestic short‐haired cat was presented with an acute onset of right cortical encephalopathy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed 4 days after the onset of clinical signs revealed a lesion originating from the right frontal sinus with intracranial extension and compression of the right frontal lobe. The lesion was T1‐weighted hypointense and T2‐weighted and fluid‐attenuated inversion recovery hyperintense. Signal voids within the lesion were observed on T2* images, consistent with hemorrhage. Peripheral ring enhancement was visible on postcontrast sequences. These features were consistent with a giant hemorrhagic mucocele. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report of MRI characteristics of this lesion in a cat. 相似文献

Objective: To report a surgical implantation of the Vibrant Soundbridge (VSB) middle ear implant in dogs. Study Design: Pilot study. Animals: Dogs (n=3). Methods: A lateral approach to the tympanic bulla was used to insert the floating mass transducer of the VSB into the tympanic bulla. Using microscopic guidance the transducer was moved to and inserted into the round window niche by manipulation through the acoustic bony meatus, after reflection of the tympanic membrane. VSB position was confirmed by computed tomography (CT) imaging. Results: No intraoperative complications occurred and CT images confirmed correct placement of the VSB. Conclusions: A VSB can be safely implanted in the middle of dogs. 相似文献

In vitro studies were focussed on the duration and cessation of merogony in Theileria parva infected blood lymphocyte cell cultures. The cultures were infected using purified tick stabilates as an alternative to in vitro infections, using sporozoites obtained by labour intensive dissections of salivary glands from infected ticks. A series of substituted 1-(2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-ylmethyl)-1,2,4-triazoles has been prepared and evaluated in the glasshouse for fungicidal activity. Compounds with 2,4-dichloro substitution on the phenyl ring and with a lower alkyl side chain on dioxolane ring were found most promising for the control of powdery mildew gherkins and barley and for the control of bean rust. These compounds were systemically active and some are being developed commercially for various applications. 相似文献

In this study we sequenced and analysed the fimH and fimA genes of 24 avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) isolates, in order to investigate their possible conserved nature. Additional parameters (serotype, presence of aerobactin receptor, expression of F1 pili and virulence for chickens) were investigated to look for correlations with the obtained sequences. The sequence analysis demonstrated that FimH is highly conserved among all investigated APEC strains (>99% homology), whereas the major subunit FimA is less conserved, presenting 6 variable regions distributed along the protein. A hydrophilicity analysis suggested several variable domains of FimA to be potential epitopes. We were able to classify the investigated strains into three main groups, on the basis of the amino-acid sequences of the variable regions. This grouping was consistent throughout all variable regions and was independent of serotype, leading to an improved classification of the F1 pili. No correlation was found between the fimH and fimA sequences and the following parameters: avian species, organ of isolation, serotype, presence of aerobactin receptor and virulence for chickens. This study elucidated the molecular structure and the degree of conservation of FimH and FimA among various avian pathogenic E. coli strains. 相似文献

A new method of diagnosing cysticercus or larval stage of the human tapeworm, Taenia saginata, also known as Cysticercus bovis, in formalin-fixed bovine tissue was developed using a monoclonal antibody to T. saginata and avidin-biotin complex immunohistochemistry. Grossly recognizable viable and degenerate cysts were identifiable after immunohistochemical staining and could be differentiated from Sarcocystis, Actinobacillus, or non-cyst, normal bovine structures. Thenew test should permit laboratory confirmation of suspected T. saginata cysticercus lesions. 相似文献
