Summary Seed yield performance and effect on seed yield of morphological traits such as seeds/panicle, seed weight, seeds/branch, branches/2nd node, branches/panicle, fertile tillers/plant and panicle length were evaluated in 13 cultivars of smooth bromegrass in a spaced-plant nursery. Wide variation was observed between and within cultivars for seed yield and traits. Highly significant correlation coefficients were found among traits and seed yield. Path analysis showed that specifically seeds/panicle and seed weight had strong direct effect on seed yield. It was concluded that seeds/panicle and seed weight were primary selection criteria for seed yield in smooth bromegrass. 相似文献

The incidence of the solid/liquid ratio on thesolubilization of heavy metals from a polluted riversediment was assessed by batch experiments. Thepercentage of solubilized metal increases stronglywhen the concentration of the sediment-watersuspension decreases from 50 to 0.1 g L-1. Thissolubilization behavior is described by a simpleequilibrium desorption model on the association of themetals and sediment. The association constantscalculated with this model indicate the affinitybetween the metals and the sediment (Pb > Cu > Zn> Cd). Hazelnut oil (HO) is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). The effect of a high cholesterol (HC) diet with and without HO on lipids and lipid peroxide levels in plasma, apolipoprotein B 100-containing lipoproteins (VLDL + LDL), and erythrocytes as well as hematological data was investigated in rabbits. A HC diet caused significant increases in lipid peroxide levels in plasma and apo B-containing lipoproteins together with histopathological atherosclerotic findings in aorta. In addition, this diet resulted in hemolytic anemia associated with increased endogenous diene conjugate (DC) levels, but H(2)O(2)-induced malondialdehyde (MDA) levels remained unchanged in erythrocytes. HO supplementation reduced lipid peroxide levels in plasma and apolipoprotein B 100-containing lipoproteins as well as aortic atherosclerotic lesions in rabbits fed an HC diet without any decreasing effect on lipid levels. The Eurasian woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) is a game species experiencing high hunting pressure, long-term modifications of its habitats, and with questions regarding its current conservation status. Winter is a season of highest concentration of birds and hunting pressure but woodcock precise habitat requirements are poorly known. It is crucial to assess threats and to develop sustainable management options for the conservation of woodcock populations. During three consecutive winters, we monitored 65 individual woodcocks fitted with radio-tags in Brittany, France. Habitat selection was analysed using GIS and compositional analysis, in relation to vegetation types, soil variables (humus types) and the abundance of their main prey (earthworms). Woodcocks used different habitats diurnally and nocturnally, generally preferring areas with high earthworm biomass. Diurnal habitat selection in forests was associated with humus type (preference for mulls, rich in earthworms) and dense shrub strata (better protection). Hedges with a high density of trees and shrub were also important habitat. At night, grazed meadows were the preferred habitat, containing five times higher biomass of earthworms compared to cultivated fields. Sustainable management of populations requires protection and management of habitats that incorporates food and cover. Forestry practices should preserve rich humus types and coppices by choosing tree species that ameliorate the soil and soil tilling. Changes in landscapes and intensive agricultural practices are current threats to woodcock populations: destruction of hedges, decrease of permanent grazed meadows, impoverishment of soils fauna biomasses from ploughing and chemical applications. Ovalbumin gene Y has been known as a member of the ovalbumin gene family since 1982, when its encoding gene was sequenced. In the present study, ovalbumin gene Y has been demonstrated as a new minor protein of hen egg white. This protein has been isolated by isoelectrofocalization and two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and has been characterized using peptide mass fingerprinting. The concentration ratio of ovalbumin gene Y:ovalbumin is about 13:100. Unlike ovalbumin, ovalbumin gene Y is not phosphorylated, but like ovalbumin, this protein is glycosylated. Ovalbumin gene Y exists as a mixture of three molecular species, which differ in their isoelectric points. The polymorphism of this protein cannot be explained by various glycosylation levels. 相似文献

A field study was undertaken to determine the effects of different plant species on soil microbial biomass and N transformations in a well drained silty clay loam (Typic Dystrochrept) and a poorly drained clay loam (Typic Humaquept). The crop treatments were faba bean (Vicia faba L.), alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), timothy (Phleum pratense L.), bromegrass (Bromus inermis L.), reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea L.), and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Measurements of microbial biomass C, denitrification capacity, and nitrification capacity were performed periodically in the top 2–10 cm of soil. On most sampling dates, all three parameters were higher under perennial than under annual species. The nitrification capacity was positively affected by the level of N applied to each species (r=0.65** for the silty clay loam and 0.84*** for the clay loam) and not directly by the plant. The differences found in microbial biomass C were significantly correlated with the water-soluble organic C present under each plant species (r=0.74*** for the silty clay loam and 0.90*** for the clay loam), suggesting differences in C deposition in the soil among plant species. In the silty clay loam, the denitrification capacity was positively related to the amount of organic C found under each plant species, while in the clay loam, it was dependent on the amount of N applied to each species. There was less denitrification activity per unit biomass under legume species than under graminease, suggesting that, depending on their composition, root-derived materials may be used differently by soil microbes. 相似文献

Decomposition processes in tropical semi-evergreen forests are still poorly understood. The influence of soil properties and litter quality on decomposition rate was studied in two semi-evergreen forests of Guadeloupe, a forest plantation and a secondary forest, located on different soils. Leaf litter of four tree species was enclosed in litterbags for a 14-month period. Non-linear correlations were calculated between mass loss and the concentration of major leaf components (soluble C, N, lignin, cellulose, tannins, total soluble phenols) in order to determine the best predictor of leaf litter decomposition. Soil physico-chemical properties and ratios between some of the above-mentioned litter quality parameters were also examined as mass loss predictors. In addition, non-linear correlations were calculated between mass loss and litter quality parameters, at successive periods. Litter quality was the main determinant of litter decomposition in the studied forests. Several litter quality parameters were correlated with leaf disappearance, varying according to stages of decomposition. Between 1 month and 2.5 months, the mass loss was correlated negatively with the initial phenol content and with initial lignin:N and (lignin+phenol):N ratios. From 2.5 to 5.5 months, the mass loss was correlated negatively with the initial phenol content and positively with the initial cellulose content. At later stages of decomposition (9-14 months), the mass loss was correlated negatively with the initial tannin content.
