Fonofos (O-ethyl S-phenyl ethylphosphonodithioate) was applied to an organic soil as band treatment at the rates of 1.12 and 2.24 kg/ha. The persistence of the insecticide and its translocation into onions and two rotation crops (lettuces and carrots) was studied under field conditions. Proportionally more residues persisted in the soil from the higher rate of application. In autumn, 4 months after soil treatment, about 40-48 % of the initially recovered levels of fonofos remained in soil. However, the amount of fonofos present at the harvest time, during the second growing season was only 16–26% of the insecticide concentration found in spring. Onions harvested 4 months after application of fonofos had no detectable residue (> 0.005 mg/kg) whereas lettuces and carrots grown in the following year contained fonofos in various amounts. At the lower rate of application the insecticide residues in lettuces and carrots were < 0.005 and 0.025 mg/kg, respectively, and those from the higher application rate were 0.012 and 0.036 mg/kg. About 72–80% of the residue could be removed by peeling the carrots. No residue of the oxygen analogue, O-ethyl S-phenyl ethylphos-phonothioate (I) was detected in any soil or crop samples.  相似文献

Chickens of a 15I5 × 72 cross that produces endogenous Rous associated virus (RAV-0) were infected with subgroup A lymphoid leukosis virus (RAV-1). Within 3 weeks, before RAV-1 neutralizing antibodies were detected, significantly higher levels of serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) were found in infected birds than in uninoculated hatchmates. Immunoglobulin M was significantly elevated only during the late leukotic state. Although most of the inoculated birds tested had RAV-1 neutralizing antibodies, no correlation was found between IgG levels and antibody titers. Tolerance to endogenous virus (RAV-0) and viral group-specific antigen was apparently abrogated by RAV-1 inoculation because significantly higher percentages of iodinated envelope glycoprotein (gpE) of RAV-0 and a viral structural antigen of mol. wt 19,000 daltons (p 19) were precipitated by sera from inoculated birds than from control birds.  相似文献

Aqueous suspensions and oil emulsions of a commercial [14C]diflubenzuron (N-[[(4-chlorophenyl)amino]carbonyl]-2,6-difluorobenzamide) formulation (Dimilin W-25) remained on the leaf surface of greenhouse-treated plant tissues. Absorption, translocation, and metabolism of the [14C]diflubenzuron were not significant. Less than 0.05% of the applied 14C was found in newly developed plant tissues 28 days after spray treatment. [14C]Diflubenzuron was degraded in soil. After 91 days, biometer flask studies showed that 28% of the 14C incorporated into the soil as [14C]diflubenzuron was recovered as 14CO2. Major dichloromethane-soluble soil residues were identified as unreacted [14C]diflubenzuron and [14C]4-chlorophenylurea. A minor unknown degradation product cochromatographed with 2,6-difluorobenzoic acid. Insoluble 14C-residues increased with time and represented 67.8% of the residual 14C in the soil 89 days after treatment. Cotton plants grown for 89 days in [14C]diflubenzuron-treated soil contained only 3% of the 14C applied to the soil. Small quantities of acetonitrile-soluble [14C]4-chlorophenylurea were isolated from the foliar tissues. Root tissues contained small amounts of [14C]diflubenzuron and trace quantities of a minor 14C-product that chromotographed similarly to 2,6-difluorobenzoic acid. Most of the 14C in the plant tissues (84–93%) was associated with an insoluble residue fraction 89 days after treatment.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that head-down positioning in anesthetized horses increases intracranial pressure (ICP) and decreases cerebral and spinal cord blood flows. ANIMALS: 6 adult horses. PROCEDURES: For each horse, anesthesia was induced with ketamine hydrochloride and xylazine hydrochloride and maintained with 1.57% isoflurane in oxygen. Once in right lateral recumbency, horses were ventilated to maintain normocapnia. An ICP transducer was placed in the subarachnoid space, and catheters were placed in the left cardiac ventricle and in multiple vessels. Blood flow measurements were made by use of a fluorescent microsphere technique while each horse was in horizontal and head-down positions. Inferential statistical analyses were performed via repeated-measures ANOVA and Dunn-Sidak comparisons. RESULTS: Because 1 horse developed extreme hypotension, data from 5 horses were analyzed. During head-down positioning, mean +/- SEM ICP increased to 55+/-2 mm Hg, compared with 31+/-2 mm Hg during horizontal positioning; cerebral perfusion pressure was unchanged. Compared with findings during horizontal positioning, blood flow to the cerebrum, cerebellum, and cranial portion of the brainstem decreased significantly by approximately 20% during head-down positioning; blood flows within the pons and medulla were mildly but not significantly decreased. Spinal cord blood flow was low (9 mL/min/100 g of tissue) and unaffected by position. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Head-down positioning increased heart-brain hydrostatic gradients in isoflurane-anesthetized horses, thereby decreasing cerebral blood flow and, to a greater extent, increasing ICP. During anesthesia, CNS regions with low blood flows in horses may be predisposed to ischemic injury induced by high ICP.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo characterize the pharmacokinetics of fentanyl and the tolerance of foals to the drug following a single application of a commercially available transdermal system (TS).Study designProspective experimental study.AnimalsSix (two male, four female) foals aged 4–8 days, weighing 56–74 kg.MethodsAfter placement of a jugular sampling catheter, one fentanyl TS (FTS) containing 10.2 mg fentanyl, released at 100 μg hour−1, was applied for 72 hours. Blood samples were withdrawn over the course of 90 hours for fentanyl plasma analysis. Before and after the study, weight, complete blood count and blood chemistry values were obtained. During the study, tolerance and safety were monitored by physical examination and assessment of behavior.ResultsFentanyl was detected as early as 20 minutes after FTS placement. Peak plasma concentrations were variable (0.1–28.7 ng mL−1), were reached after 14.3 ± 7.6 hours (mean ± SD), and returned to baseline concentrations 12 hours after FTS removal. All foals satisfactorily tolerated the FTS application and no significant adverse effects were observed. Rectal temperature increased above 38.5 °C (max. 39.0 °C) in all foals, although this did not correlate with fentanyl plasma concentrations. Results of hematological and biochemical analyses were within reference ranges. Conclusion and clinical relevance Our data show that 100 μg hour−1 fentanyl administered by an FTS results in time-related but variable plasma concentrations in foals. The FTS was easy to apply and was well tolerated.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether infusion of xylazine (XYL) and ketamine (KET) for 30 minutes after isoflurane administration in horses would result in improved quality of recovery from anesthesia, without detrimental cardiopulmonary changes. STUDY DESIGN: Randomized, blinded experimental trial. ANIMALS: Seven healthy adult horses aged 6.4 +/- 1.9 years and weighing 506 +/- 30 kg. METHODS: Horses were anesthetized twice, at least 1 week apart. On both occasions, anesthesia was induced by the administration of XYL, diazepam, and KET, and maintained with isoflurane for approximately 90 minutes, the last 60 minutes of which were under steady-state conditions (1.2 times the minimum alveolar concentration isoflurane). On one occasion, horses were allowed to recover from isoflurane anesthesia, while on the other, XYL and KET were infused for 30 minutes after termination of isoflurane administration. Heart rate, respiratory rate, arterial blood pressure, pH, and blood-gases were measured and recorded at set intervals during steady-state isoflurane anesthesia and XYL-KET infusion. Recovery events were timed and subjectively scored by one nonblinded and two blinded observers. Data were analyzed using a restricted maximum likelihood-based mixed effect model repeated measures analysis. RESULTS: Infusion of XYL and KET resulted in longer recovery times, but there was no significant improvement in recovery quality score. CONCLUSIONS: Under the conditions of this study, infusion of XYL and KET does not positively influence recovery from isoflurane anesthesia in horses. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This study does not support the routine use of XYL and KET infusions in horses during the transition from isoflurane anesthesia to recovery.  相似文献

A prospective observational study was carried out to examine antimicrobial resistance patterns of fecal Escherichia coli isolates of calves on arrival at the feedlot, and then evaluate the associations between the total volume of antimicrobial used for disease treatment and changes in antimicrobial resistance, during the feeding period. No macrolides or tetracyclines were administered in the feed during this study. On arrival, at the animal level, all 3 isolates obtained from 36.6% [95% confidence interval (CI): 29.0 to 44.8] of all cattle sampled (n = 153), were susceptible to all antimicrobials, while 5.9% (95% CI: 2.7 to 10.9) of cattle had at least 1 isolate that was resistant to ≥ 3 antimicrobials out of the 7 antimicrobials tested. The most frequent antimicrobials for which resistance was observed were sulphamethoxazole, ampicillin, and tetracycline where, of all cattle, 44.4% (95% CI: 36.4 to 52.7), 20.3% (95% CI: 14.2 to 27.5), and 17.7% (95% CI: 12.0 to 24.6), respectively had at least 1 resistant isolate. All cattle received antimicrobial metaphylaxis on arrival at the feedlot. Antimicrobial use was described for a cohort of 95 cattle. Antimicrobials were given to 42 of the 95 cattle during the feeding period, to treat disease. Amongst the 42 treated cattle, there were a total of 133 animal daily doses (ADDFeedlot), where 1 ADDFeedlot represented 1 day of antimicrobial treatment received by a feedlot animal at the approved dose. Only 1 ADDFeedlot was given in the 100 days immediately prior to slaughter. There were no associations found between antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance in this study.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the changes in colloid osmotic pressure (COP) and total protein concentrations during routine general anesthesia in horses. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, clinical study. ANIMALS: Twelve adult healthy horses aged 9.1 +/- 4.7 years and weighing 474 +/- 79 kg presented for elective surgery and 14 adult horses aged 8.7 +/- 7.3 years and weighing 510 +/- 85 kg. METHODS: All horses were premedicated with xylazine and anesthesia induced with ketamine, diazepam and guaifenesin, and maintained with isoflurane for 2.5 hours. Lactate Ringer's solution was administered at 11 mL kg(-1) hour(-1). Osmolality, COP, electrolytes, glucose, and lactate were measured with specific commercial analyzers. Total protein (TP) was determined with a refractometer and packed cell volume with centrifuged capillary tubes. In the second group of 14 horses samples were taken from both venous and arterial sites simultaneously and the above measurements performed. RESULTS: Before anesthesia, COP and TP were 22.2 +/- 2 mmHg and 6.9 +/- 0.4 g dL(-1), respectively. Within 15 minutes of anesthetic induction, COP and TP decreased significantly (19.9 +/- 1.9 mmHg and 6.3 +/- 1.9 g dL(-1); p < 0.01). During anesthesia COP and TP decreased in a linear form (COP r2 = 0.96 and TP r2 = 0.97). The COP and TP were 15 +/- 1.3 mmHg and 5.1 +/- 0.2 g dL(-1) at the end of anesthesia. Calculation of COP from TP values failed to accurately predict measured COP. Simultaneous arterial and venous samples in the 14 anesthetized horses yielded no differences for COP or TP. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The data indicate that COP, like TP, decreases over the course of routine anesthetic management of horses and venous versus arterial samples should reveal comparable information.  相似文献
