One hundred and forty-seven Chinese barley varieties maintained at the Gene Bank of the National Barley Improvement Centre, Zhejiang, and 84 progenies from these varieties were tested at the seedling stage for their reaction to 32 selected pathotypes of Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei. Eighteen resistance spectra were identified comprising single or combined resistances from eight known (Ml(Bw), Ml(Ch), Mla7, Mla8, Mla9, Mla13, MlaRu4 and Mlg) and six unknown resistance genes. The most frequent gene was Ml(Bw), which was found in 69 varieties and previously detected in only a few European winter barley varieties. The genes Mla8 and Ml(Ch) were also often present, but other resistance genes were rare. After inoculation, considerably fewer pathogen colonies were observed in ‘Aiganqi’ and one line of ‘Tong5’. Twenty varieties were composed of lines with different resistance genes. China is likely to be a region of origin of the genes Ml(Bw), Mla7, as well as three unknown genes found in original landraces and perhaps another three unknown genes detected in cultivars bred in China. The resistances of varieties from the Zhejiang province and those originating from 11 other Chinese provinces were quite different. Unfortunately, none of the varieties are promising sources of resistance to powdery mildew and China does not seem to be a region suitable for identifying such sources.  相似文献

The cation exchange capacity (CEC) of a soil depends on the type and amount of both mineral and organic surfaces. Previous studies that have sought to determine the relative contribution of organic matter to total soil CEC have not addressed differences in soil organic matter (SOM) composition that could lead to differences in CEC. The objectives of this study were (1) to compare the CEC of two distinct SOM pools, the “light fraction (LF)” composed of particulate plant, animal, and microbial debris, and the “heavy fraction (HF)” composed of mineral-bound organic matter; and (2) to examine the effects of differences in aboveground vegetation on CEC. Soil samples were collected from four paired grassland/conifer sites within a single forested area and density fractionated. LF CEC was higher in conifer soils than in grassland soils, but there was no evidence of an effect of vegetation on CEC for the HF or bulk soil. LF CEC (but not HF CEC) correlated well with the C concentration in the fraction. The mean CEC of both fractions (per kg fraction) exceeded that of the bulk soil; thus, when the LF and HF CEC were combined mathematically by weighting values for each fraction in proportion to dry mass, the resulting value was nearly twice the measured CEC of bulk soil. On a whole soil basis, the HF contributed on average 97% of the CEC of the whole soil, although this conclusion must be tempered given the inflation of CEC values by the density fractionation procedure.  相似文献

Thirty Portuguese and eight foreign olive (Olea europaea L.) cultivars were screened using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and Inter-Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) markers. Twenty RAPD primers amplified 301 reproducible bands of which 262 were polymorphic; and 17 ISSR primers amplified 204 bands of which 180 were polymorphic. The percentage of polymorphic bands detected by ISSR and RAPD was similar (88 and 87%, respectively). The genetic variability observed was similar in the Portuguese and foreign olive cultivars. Seven ISSR and 12 RAPD primers were able to distinguish individually all 38 olive cultivars. Twenty specific molecular markers are now available to be converted into Sequence Characterised Amplified Region (SCAR) markers. Relationships among Portuguese and foreign cultivars is discussed.  相似文献

Herbicides released through agricultural activities to surface waters and drinking water systems represent a risk to human and environmental health, as well as a cost to municipalities for removal. This study focuses on the viability of glyphosate tolerant cropping systems as an alternative to atrazine-based systems, and the impact of tilling historically no-till ground on the runoff pollution potential of these systems. Variable intensity field rainfall simulations were performed on 2 m long × 1 m wide plots within a field in first-year disk and harrow following no-till (CT), and within a long-term no-tilled (NT) field, both treated with atrazine and glyphosate according to label. Rainfall sequence was: 50 mm h−1 for 50 min followed by 75 mm h−1 for 15 min, 25 mm h−1 for 15 min, and 100 mm h−1 for 15 min. Runoff was collected at regular time intervals during two simulated rainfall events and analyzed for herbicide concentration, sediment content, and volume. Maximum glyphosate concentration in runoff was 233 μg L−1 for NT and 180 μg L−1 for CT (approximately 33% and 26% of the maximum contaminant limit (MCL) for glyphosate (700 μg L−1), respectively, while maximum atrazine concentrations in runoff was 303 μg L−1 for NT and 79 μg L−1 for CT (approximately 100 times and 26 times the atrazine MCL (3 μg L−1)). Atrazine concentration and loading were significantly higher in runoff from NT plots than from CT plots, whereas glyphosate concentration and loading were impacted by tillage treatment to a much lesser degree. Results suggest that glyphosate-based weed management may represent a lower drinking water risk than atrazine-based weed management, especially in NT systems.  相似文献

Soils were examined at 2505 m elevation in Haleakala's crater (Maui, Hawai?i) beneath 50 adult Hawaiian silversword plants (Argyroxiphium sandwicense DC.); mean canopy diameter was 42.0 cm. Exposed volcanic Inceptisols (Andic Humitropepts) seem significantly eroded beyond the dense rosette crowns, but remain unaffected below plants. Rosettes are perched on isolated basal soil mounds or pedestals 27–121 mm high (mean: 77.5 mm). Geomorphic field response of soils below rosettes and adjacent (∼ 100 cm apart) bare soils differs. Infiltration rates are higher under plants (mean: 158.7 mm/min) than in exposed control soils (60.0 mm/min). Soils below silverswords also show greater shear strength (146.1 g/cm2) and compressibility (2.795 kg/cm2) than unprotected soils (36.1 g/cm2, and 0.108 kg/cm2, respectively). Soil in the plant mounds contains more organic matter; this has influenced other pedological properties, which also differ substantially between sampling positions. Substrate under plants has a porosity ∼ 53% higher than exposed soil, while bulk density is 62% higher in soil outside the plant crown. The observed microtopographic differences are ascribed to greater soil erosion by rainsplash and runoff outside the silversword canopy. The dense rosette crown effectively intercepts raindrops; soils beneath plants also have a high surface cohesiveness provided by a dense network of fine plant rootlets and partially decomposed organic material. Higher runoff rates occur on the less permeable substrate beyond rosettes, which is affected by soil crusting.  相似文献

Atmospheric suspended particulate matter (PM10) was sampled from the Jobos Bay estuary in Salinas and from a reference site (Fajardo) in the east coast of Puerto Rico. Salinas is a town in the south coast of Puerto Rico adjacent to a number of industries and to the only coal power plant on the island. It is important to study the air quality in this area since significant releases of metal to the environment due to energy production could represent a threat to local communities. This study evaluated the levels of PM10, metals, and arsenic to set a reference point for future environmental studies in the area. Sampling was performed for periods of 72 h between August 2002 and May 2003 using a Partisol Plus Model 2025 sequential PM10 air monitor. Seven metals were analyzed per sample (Cd, Cu, Fe, Ni, Hg, Pb and V) plus arsenic using Atomic Absorption. Average annuals levels for PM10 in Salinas were 22.9 μg/m3 versus 20.7 μg/m3 in Fajardo. All metals analyzed were significantly higher in Salinas when compared to Fajardo (reference site). Statistical analyses showed strong relationships between the metal groups (Cu and Cd) and (As and Pb) at Salinas. Good relationship was also observed for Fe and PM10. This analysis suggests two main sources for the elements: anthropogenic and metal flux from Saharan dust arriving to the island.  相似文献

A lipoxygenase from Terfezia claveryi Chatin ascocarp, a mycorrhizal hypogeous fungus, is described for the first time. The higher proportion of PUFA in T. claveryi ascocarps makes lipid rancidity the main factor limiting its storage life. Thus, the studies on LOX from T. claveryi are important because this enzyme, among other roles, may be involved in an alteration of lipids leading to consumer rejection. The enzyme has been purified to apparent homogeneity by phase partitioning in the presence of Triton X-114, followed by two steps of cation-exchange chromatography. The purified T. claveryi LOX preparation consisted of a single major band with an apparent molecular mass of 66 kDa after sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The enzymic activity exhibited a strong specificity toward linoleic and linolenic acids as substrates, while only 32% activity was observed using gamma-linolenic acid. The pH optimum of this enzyme was pH 7.0. When the enzyme reacted with linoleic acid, it produced a single peak, which comigrated with standard 13-hydroperoxy-octadecadienoic acid; 13-hydroperoxy-octadecatrienoic acid was produced during the reaction with linolenic acid.  相似文献

The high-temperature treatment of paprika oleoresins (Capsicum annuum L.) modified the carotenoid profile, yielding several degradation products, which were analyzed by HPLC-APCI-MS. From the initial MS data, compounds were grouped in two sets. Set 1 grouped compounds with m/z 495, and set 2 included compounds with m/z 479, in both cases for the protonated molecular mass. Two compounds of the first set were tentatively identified as 9,10,11,12,13,14,19,20-octanor-capsorubin (compound II) and 9,10,11,12,13,14,19,20-octanor-5,6-epoxide-capsanthin (compound IV), after isolation by semipreparative HPLC and analysis by EI-MS. Compounds VII, VIII, and IX from set 2 were assigned as 9,10,11,12,13,14,19,20-octanor-capsanthin and isomers, respectively. As these compounds were the major products formed in the thermal process, it was possible to apply derivatization techniques (hydrogenation and silylation) to analyze them by EI-MS, before and after chemical derivatization. Taking into account structures of the degradation products, the cyclization of polyolefins could be considered as the general reaction pathway in thermally induced reactions, yielding in the present study xylene as byproduct and the corresponding nor-carotenoids.  相似文献

The new diterpenes brussonol (1) and iguestol (6alpha,11-dihydroxy-12-methoxy-abieta-8,11,13-triene) (2) with an icetexane and a dehydroabietane skeleton, respectively, have been isolated from hairy root cultures of Salvia broussonetii. Other previously known diterpenes, 7-oxodehydroabietane, 11-hydroxy-12-methoxyabietatriene, taxodione, inuroyleanol, ferruginol, deoxocarnosol 12-methyl ether, cryptojaponol, pisiferal, sugiol, isomanool, 14-deoxycoleon U, 6alpha-hydroxydemethylcryptojaponol, demethylsalvicanol, and demethylcryptojaponol, were also obtained from these roots. The insect antifeedant and toxic effects of several of these compounds were investigated against the insect pests Spodoptera littoralis and Leptinotarsa decemlineata. Additionally, their comparative cytotoxic effects were tested on insect Sf9 and mammalian CHO cells. Demethylsalvicanol (4) was a moderate antifeedant to L. decemlineata, whereas brussonol (1) was inactive. 14-Deoxycoleon U (15) was the strongest antifeedant, whereas demethylcryptojaponol (11) was toxic to this insect. None of these compounds had antifeedant or negative effects on S. littoralis ingestion or weight gains after oral administration. Demethylcryptojaponol (11) was cytotoxic to mammalian CHO and insect Sf9 cell lines, followed by the icetexane derivative brussonol (1), with moderate cytotoxicity in both cases. The remainder of the test compounds showed a strong selective cytotoxicty to insect Sf9 cells, with demethylsalvicanol (4) being the most active.  相似文献

Volatile oil extracts of fennel seeds (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) and thyme leaves (Thymus vulgaris L.) were obtained by simultaneous distillation-extraction (SDE) and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In general, fennel oil extracted by SDE and SFE showed similar compositions, with trans-anethole, estragole, and fenchone as the main components. In contrast, thymol and p-cymene, the most abundant compounds in thyme leaves, showed big differences, with generally higher amounts of monoterpenes obtained by SDE. However, in this case, the differences between the extracts were higher. Key odorants of fennel seeds determined by gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) showed similar patterns when applying SDE and SFE. trans-Anethole (anise, licorice), estragole (anise, licorice, sweet), fenchone (mint, camphor, warm), and 1-octen-3-ol (mushroom) were the most intense odor compounds detected in fennel extracts. Thymol and carvacrol, with oregano, thyme, and spicy notes, were identified as key compounds contributing to the aroma of thyme leaves.  相似文献
