The objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of the Cropping System Model (CSM)-CERES (Crop-Environment Resource Synthesis)-Rice for simulating growth and yield of rice under irrigated conditions for a semiarid environment in Pakistan and to determine the impact of plant density and irrigation regime on grain yield and economic returns. The crop simulation model was evaluated with experimental data collected in 2000 and 2001 in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. The experiment utilized a randomized complete block design with three replications and included three plant densities (one seedling hill?1, PD1; two seedlings hill?1, PD2; and three seedlings hill?1, PD3) and five irrigation regimes (625 mm, I1; 775 mm, I2; 925 mm, I3; 1075 mm, I4; and 1225 mm, I5). To determine the most appropriate combination of plant densities and irrigation regimes, four plant densities from one seedling hill?1 to four seedlings hill?1 and 17 irrigation regimes ranging from 0 to 1600 mm, for a total of 68 different scenarios, were simulated for 35 years of historical daily weather data. The evaluation of CSM-CERES-Rice showed that the model was able to accurately simulate growth and yield of rice for irrigated semiarid conditions, with an average error of 11% between simulated and observed grain yield. The results of the biophysical analysis showed that the combination of the two seedlings hill?1 plant density and the 1,300 mm irrigation regime produced the highest yield compared to all other scenarios. Furthermore, the economic analysis through the Mean-Gini Dominance (MGD) also showed the superiority of this treatment compared to the other treatment combinations. The mean monetary return ranged from ?47 to 1,265 $ ha?1 among all 68 scenarios. However, to be able to furnish the demand of rice grain for local consumption and to increase export, there is a need to expand this technology among the rice growers of other rice producing areas in Pakistan through extension workers. 相似文献

This paper provides an overview of the issues in and approaches to measuring and enhancing the value of agricultural water
in large irrigated river basins. It develops a framework and a set of indicators for valuing agricultural water by looking
into various dimensions and underlying key factors that influence the value of water at micro, meso and macro levels. The
indicators are applied to recent, primary- and secondary-level empirical data from the Indus basin Irrigation system of Pakistan.
In addition, the paper compiles recent estimates of the value of agricultural water from 40 settings in 23 countries. Finally,
the paper outlines measures for enhancing the value of agricultural water. The paper makes four main points: (1) The popular
productivity indicators based on crop output do not capture the full range of benefits and costs associated with agricultural
water use. (2) The value of agricultural water may not be as low as it is generally perceived or estimated when all major
uses and direct and indirect benefits of water at various levels are properly accounted for. (3) The value of water varies
across time and space, and the value to stakeholders at various scales (farmer, system manager, basin planner and national
policy maker) could be quite different. For example, the estimate of agricultural water value in the upper Indus basin in
Pakistan varies from US$0.04/m3 at the farm scale to US$0.22/m3 at the national scale. The farm-scale value is more relevant, e.g., for agricultural water charging policies, but for water-sector
investments and allocation decisions, the national-scale value is important. The decision-making processes related to water
sector investments, allocations, management, and charging/cost recovery schemes could be potentially misguided if key dimensions
of water value that are related to water availability and use, benefits/costs, and temporal and spatial aspects are not properly
accounted for in valuation. (4) Efforts should be directed not only at increasing the productivity of water in terms of mass
of output per unit of water, but also the overall benefits or value of water at various levels for larger growth and poverty
alleviation impacts, considering the sustainability of the systems.

BACKGROUND: The German cockroach is an important household insect pest mechanically involved in transmission of a variety of diseases to humans. Different classes of insecticides have extensively been used for its control leading to insecticide resistance development. Hence, for an optimal control of this pest, the status and underlying mechanisms of insecticide resistance should be studied in this group of insects. METHODS: Adult German cockroaches were collected from Imam and Bouali Cina Hospitals (Sari, Iran) and subjected to bioassay using jar test method. The results were compared to those of a susceptible laboratory strain. Biochemical assays of esterases, monooxigenases and glutathione S-transferase (GST) levels were undertaken on German cockroaches from Imam and Bouali Cina Hospitals and the results were compared to a susceptible laboratory strain. RESULTS: The LT50 values of the three strains were 20.24+/-2.2, 19.87+/-2.3 and 8.89+/-0.26 for permethrin; 19.3+/-3.05, 17.6+/-0.68 and 8.8+/-0.99 for deltamethrin; 19.64+/-2.9, 18.66+/-3.45 and 8.64+/-0.62 min for cypermethrin, respectively. The mean -esterase activity of Imam and Bouali Cina Hospitals and susceptible strains were 6.941x10(-4), 6.940x10(-4) and 8.01x10(-5) nmol/min/mg protein; the mean -esterase activity in those strains were 5.8x10(-4), 4.25x10(-4) and 7.28x10(-5) nmol/min/mg protein; the mean content of p450 in the above-mentioned strains were 5.64x10(-6), 1.89x10(-6) and 1.2x10(-6) nmol/mg protein; the mean GST activity were 6.66x10(-2), 0.102 and 5.72x10(-2) mol/min/mg protein, respectively. CONCLUSION: The LT50 values and also the mean activity of all enzyme groups in field strains were significantly different from those of the susceptible strain, indicating a vigour tolerance to insecticides and pyrethroids in particular. The oocyte of Sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus) and Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baeri) was evaluated after incubation with 17α, 20β‐Dihydroxyprogesterone (DHP) in artificial media. Concentration of testosterone (T), progesterone (P4) and 17‐β estradiol (E2) in blood and their relation to fertilization rate were measured during experimental period. The oocytes at the same developmental stages were incubated in SIS (based on sturgeon blood ionic composition), RM2 (Ringer solution modified for sturgeons) and L‐15 (Leibovitz medium) artificial mediums in the presence of 1 μg/ml of 17α, 20β‐Dihydroxyprogesterone for 12, 18 and 24 hr. The result of this study demonstrated that fertilization rate decreased with the increasing duration of incubation in all mediums. In the Siberian and Sterlet sturgeon, the highest fertilization rate was observed in the oocytes incubated in RM2 (0.81 ± 0.4) and SIS (0.44 ± 0.8) mediums for 12 hr respectively. In the Siberian sturgeon, fertilization rate decreased significantly (p < .05) with incubation time in all three mediums. In Starlet, fertilization rate decreased significantly (p < .05) with time and reached a minimum after 24 hr (0.16 ± 0.1) in L‐15 medium. No significant (p > .05) differences were observed between blood plasma hormones and fertilization rate. The results of this study indicated that 17α, 20β‐Dihydroxyprogesterone is essential for induction of in vitro oocyte maturation in these species. 相似文献

The functional properties of proteins from Tarom and Shiroodi cultivars were determined and compared with technological aspects of food and nutraceutical applications. Shiroodi has higher protein content than Tarom, and the yields of protein obtained were 72.88 and 66.36%, respectively. Nitrogen solubilities of rice bran protein of Tarom were more than Shiroodi at all pH levels. In addition, higher solubility was found in acidic or alkaline conditions. Although the rice bran proteins had lower emulsifying properties than bovine serum albumin, they had similar foaming properties in comparison with egg white. Tarom isolates had a significantly higher solubility, emulsifying property, and foaming stability and greater surface properties than Shiroodi isolates. The results showed the surface hydrophobicities of rice bran protein were greater than casein and ovalbumin and lower than other proteins such as bovine serum albumin. Water and oil absorption capacities were 1.03 and 1.66 for Tarom and 87.3 and 75.3 for Shiroodi, respectively. The bulk densities of Tarom and Shiroodi were also 0.55 and 0.53 g/mL, which make them suitable for weaning food and other industrial applications. As a result, these rice bran proteins showed higher hydrophobicity than that of other rice bran protein varieties as well as more functionality. - Commodity-driven forest conversion represents one of the most severe threats to freshwater biodiversity in Southeast Asia, notably causing population declines and the extinction of freshwater fish species.
- Although a variety of freshwater taxa are likely to be adversely affected by forest conversion, little is known about the impact on ecologically and economically important invertebrates such as decapod crustaceans.
- This study evaluated the impact of forest conversion and land-use change on freshwater Macrobrachium shrimp species, using species richness, abundance, and environmental data collected from 20 streams across southern Peninsular Malaysia. Streams were located in three types of landscape: forest; oil palm plantation; and mixed land use, comprising young secondary forest, small-scale plantations, patches of open and sparsely vegetated areas, and agricultural fields and clearings.
- Generalized linear models showed that even incomplete change from forest habitats to mixed land use and oil palm plantation resulted in significantly lower Macrobrachium native species richness and higher non-native species abundance. Native species richness was positively correlated with canopy cover, leaf litter, substrate size, and dissolved oxygen, and was negatively correlated with water temperature and conductivity. Native species richness was also negatively correlated with non-native species abundance, with non-native species abundance increasing along the human disturbance gradient.
- These results highlight the need for riparian habitat protection to conserve native Macrobrachium and limit the spread of non-native species. A management priority should be to maintain or restore optimum instream habitat conditions for shrimps, which would also benefit fish and other benthic macroinvertebrates. Suitable riparian management requires substantial support and funding from multiple stakeholders, but it can be aligned with other catchment-based strategies to optimize the use of limited resources available for freshwater biodiversity conservation.
