Ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs) are observed along with freezing behavior when rats are placed under fearful situation. Coping style with stress is categorized into two forms, namely passive and emotional avoidance and active operant avoidance. In this study, fear-induced USV was compared between two conditioning protocols. Two groups of male Wistar rats were contextually conditioned for 10 days by exposing to the shock box. One group was shock-unavoidable and the other shock-avoidable by operant control of emitting the USVs. They were then proceeded to the extinction phase. As the results, the shock-unavoidable group emitted greater USV in both conditioning and extinction phases. The extinction burst, commonly seen in active learned responses, was not observed in either group. The duration of freezing was also longer in shock-unavoidable conditioned rats. These results suggest that under the shock-unavoidable condition, rats receive more stress and thus emit more USV. It is therefore concluded that fear-induced USV is an emotional and passive response to the stress, rather than being controlled in an operant-way.  相似文献

Chicken interferon-gamma (ChIFN-gamma) was expressed by baculovirus in a C-terminal truncated form, namely ChIFN-gammaT, to accelerate the secretion of the expressed protein. It is also expressed as ChIFN-gammaT bearing poly His tag, ChIFN-gammaTHis, for easy purification. The expressed proteins were detected by SDS-PAGE analysis with Coomassie brilliant blue staining. The purified ChIFN-gammaTHis with nickel chelated column showed anti-viral activity in vitro and stimulation of the secretion of nitrogen intermediates such as nitric oxide in chicken peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Antiserum against ChIFN-gammaTHis recognized the 15 kDa, 16 kDa, and 32 kDa bands that seemed to be an unglycosylated monomer, a glycosylated monomer, and a homodimer of ChIFN-gammaTHis in the culture supernatant, respectively. The anti-serum also recognized around 14 kDa and 28 kDa bands in the sera of chickens or concanavalin A stimulated spleen cell culture supernatants that seemed to be monomeric and dimeric forms of a natural ChIFN-gamma, respectively.  相似文献

Maternal grooming (MG), nursing (NS) and mother‐infant behavior 5 min before (IB5) and immediately before (LIB) maternal behavior were observed in Japanese Black (JB) and Japanese Shorthorn (JS) cow‐calf pairs. During MG of the JB, the number of calf's IB5 was more than that of cows, but the duration of the MG positively correlated with the number of cow's IB5. During MG of the JS, the duration positively correlated with the number of calf's IB5. The number of the NS with calf's LIB and the number of calf's IB5 in the NS were more than those of cows in both breeds. The duration of the NS tended to correlate with the number of calf's IB5 in the JS. Main behavior sequence was observed like cow's approach, MG, calf's contact and NS, in this order, in both breeds. It is thought that the MG is released by cow's and calf's activities in both breeds and accelerated by the cow's activeness in the JB and by the calf's activeness in the JS, and that the NS is released and accelerated by the calf's activeness in JS.  相似文献

Adipose tissue is an important organ that is involved in the peripheral regulation of body homeostasis, specifically, energy intake, storage and expenditure. Since fat metabolism is of the utmost importance in ruminants, the signals and mechanisms which regulate adiposity for fattening have been studied and characterized by many different approaches. Adipogenesis in the adipose tissues of ruminants is triggered and modulated by several factors/genes, some of which (conjugated linoleic acid, tumor necrosis factor‐α and adipogenin) have been examined with respect to adipogenesis in ruminants by numerous researchers, including those in our group. The purpose of this article was to describe recent advances and insights into the molecular regulating processes of preadipocyte, adipocyte and adipose tissues in ruminants.  相似文献

The water deer (Hydropotes inermis) has conventionally been classified into two subspecies according to geographic distribution and pelage color pattern: H. i. inermis from China and H. i. argyropus from Korea. However, the results of a recent molecular study have called this into question. To further reappraise this classification, we examined morphological variation in craniodental measurements of these 2 subspecies. Results of univariate and multivariate analyses demonstrated that these 2 subspecies are not well-differentiated, suggesting that individuals of the 2 populations share common morphological traits. Despite the distribution of the subspecies at different latitudes, no clear morphocline was detected, suggesting that Bergmann’s rule does not apply in this case. Discriminant analysis indicated that the characteristics of individuals are shared by both populations, suggesting that not all individuals can be assigned to their original population. Results of principal component analysis showed that the two populations shared more than 75% of individuals, congruent with the “75% rule” of subspecies classification. In both the neighbor-joining and unweighted pair group methods with arithmetic mean cluster analyses, specimens of H. i. argyropus and H. i. inermis were highly mixed within the cladograms. These results suggest that the overall morphological variation in the 2 subspecies overlaps considerably and that there is no coherent craniofacial difference between the 2 groups. The present findings combined with prior observations from molecular biogeography point out that the taxonomic division of water deer into 2 subspecies should be revisited.  相似文献

An 8-month-old thoroughbred colt presented with sudden onset right forelimb lameness. A radiographic series of the right carpus was performed, and it revealed a slab fracture of the fourth carpal bone and fracture of the proximal part of the third metacarpal bone. Arthroscopically guided repair of the slab fracture of the fourth carpal bone with a 3.5 mm cortex screw and lag screw fixation of the fracture of the proximal part of the third metacarpal bone were performed. The horse started to race at 32 months old and started in 65 races over three years without any trouble associated with the right carpus.  相似文献

Mycoplasma species are often isolated from horses with respiratory symptoms; however, the pathogenicity of Mycoplasma is still unclear. In autumn of 2018, we encountered an increase in cases with respiratory symptoms, mainly coughing, in a group of Thoroughbred racehorses in Japan. We examined tracheal wash samples obtained from 40 of those cases. Bacteria and viruses that commonly cause respiratory symptoms were investigated, and anaerobes were detected in only 5 cases and Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus (S. zooepidemicus) was detected in only 1 case of 40 cases with loop-mediated isothermal amplification assay. S. zooepidemicus and Streptococcus pneumoniae were isolated at a bacterial count of higher than 1.0 × 104 CFU/ml from 5 and 2 cases of 28 cases cultured, respectively. None of the viruses investigated was detected in 40 cases. Mycoplasma equirhinis (M. equirhinis) was isolated from 40.0% (16/40) of the cases, which was higher than previously reported isolation rates. The rate of M. equirhinis isolation in the cases from 2018 was significantly higher than the isolation rates in the other horses: clinical cases with respiratory symptoms in 2019–2020 (13.6%, 3/22) and healthy horses (13.5%, 5/37) in Japan. In this study, the isolation rate of M. equirhinis from horse group with cough symptoms in 2018 was high and no other common etiological agents were detected. The pathogenesis of M. equirhinis is still unclear, however, M. equirhinis might have been associated with respiratory symptoms in the Thoroughbred horse cases in 2018.  相似文献

Reforestation in the humid tropics and arid zones, where trees are often subject to stresses, is an effective approach for mitigating global warming. Forestation with Populus species that are tolerant to the stresses in such regions has been conducted. The selection of poplar trees with higher stress tolerance leads to more efficient reforestation. The genome-wide bioinformatics approaches of gene function have been used for revealing the mechanisms of biological processes, including such stress tolerance. The decoding of the poplar genome has been followed by the genome-wide identification of genes and then the inference of gene function for systematic understanding of biological processes. To predict gene function in poplar, we analyzed poplar gene expression data using DNA microarray datasets obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and developed a database for poplar gene co-expression analysis. Using the database, we illustrate the steps to retrieve two groups of co-expressed genes that are specifically expressed in experiments of hypoxic stress response in gray poplar, a flooding-tolerant tree species. Our database allows users to extract genes involved in biological processes, such as stress reaction, and then is useful for understanding such mechanisms in tree species.  相似文献

Anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is a surgical procedure for drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy that is commonly performed in human medicine. The purpose of this study was to determine whether ATL-like surgery, i.e., removal of the amygdala and hippocampal head, is possible in dogs, and to investigate its safety and postoperative complications. Eight healthy beagles underwent ATL-like surgery and were observed for 3 months postoperatively. Samples from the surgically resected tissues and postmortem brain were evaluated pathologically. The surgical survival rate was 62.5%. The major postoperative complications were visual impairment, temporal muscle atrophy on the operative side, and a postoperative acute symptomatic seizure. Due to the anatomical differences between dogs and humans, the surgically resected area to approach the medial temporal structures in dogs was the ventrolateral part of the temporal lobe. Therefore, the ATL-like surgery described in this study was named “ventrolateral temporal lobectomy” (VTL). This study is the first report of temporal lobectomy including amygdalohippocampectomy in veterinary medicine and demonstrates its feasibility. Although it requires some degree of skill, VTL could be a treatment option for canine drug-resistant epilepsy and lesions in the mesial temporal lobe.  相似文献

The occurrence of cavitation events and embolism during the latent, early stage and the late developmental stages of pine wilt disease was monitored nondestructively by acoustic emission (AE) and high-resolution magnetic resonance microscopy, respectively, and the results were compared with changes in leaf water potential and stem thickness. In the latent stage of the disease, when no embolisms were observed, cavitation events were detected by AE during the daytime in water-stressed Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii Parl.) seedlings, indicating that cavitation occurred at the individual tracheid level. In the early stage of the disease, an increase in the frequency of AE events occurred coincidentally with the occurrence of patchy embolisms at the mass tracheid level. The threshold water potential for such mass cavitation was higher than that causing cavitation of individual tracheids during the latent stage of the disease. In the advanced stage of the disease, explosive AE events were observed coincidentally with drastic enlargement of embolized areas and decreases in water potential. The AE events in the latent stage occurred only during the daytime, whereas, in the early and advanced stages of the disease, they also occurred at night. The explosive occurrence of cavitation in the advanced stage was thought to be a case of "runaway embolism."  相似文献
