The effects of cold HMDSO and HMDSO + SF6 plasma treatments on spruce, chestnut and poplar wood were investigated in order to obtain a hydrophobic surface evaluated by microscopic, spectroscopic (FT-IR and LIBS) and contact angle analyses. Cold plasma treatments can increase the surface hydro-repellence without modifying the external aspect and bulk properties of different woods.  相似文献

Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm) causes bacterial wilt and canker in tomato, producing important economic losses worldwide. Its virulence has been related to several putative virulence factors present on a chromosomal pathogenicity island and on plasmids pCM1 and pCM2, in strain NCPPB382. We genotypically characterized a collection of Cmm isolates from the main greenhouse tomato-producing areas of Argentina by BOX-PCR fingerprinting and screened for the presence of genes and plasmids involved in pathogenicity by PCR. In addition, we evaluated in vitro cellulolytic activity and virulence in planta of selected strains. BOX-PCR fingerprinting clustered strains into four groups. Group II was dominant and included the most virulent strains, while Group III was the smallest and had the least virulent strains. All local strains exhibited similar cellulolytic activity. Most of the examined strains carry two plasmids of similar size to those of NCPPB382, although there were strains with one or three plasmids. By PCR amplification of repA, pCM1 was detected only in strains belonging to Group III, which includes local strains closely related to reference strain NCPPB382. All analysed pathogenicity genes were widespread among strains, and so in strains belonging to Groups I and II, celA found on pCM1 in NCPPB382 could be found in the chromosome or in plasmids other than pCM1. This study contributes to a better understanding of the diversity of Cmm genetic profiles and virulence of strains present in Argentina. Such information could be useful for the selection of strains for screening of host resistance and development of resistant tomato varieties.  相似文献

Root-lesion nematodes of the genus Pratylenchus are migratory endoparasites with worldwide economic impact on several important crops including potato, where certain species like P. penetrans, P. neglectus, and P. scribneri reduce the yield and quality of potato tubers. Morphological identification of Pratylenchus spp. is challenging, and recent advancements in molecular techniques provide robust and rapid diagnostics to differentiate species without the need of specialist skills. However, the fact that molecular diagnostics are not available for all Pratylenchus species means that there are limitations in worldwide application. In general, root-lesion nematodes are difficult to manage once introduced into agricultural land and damage can be related to pathogenicity and population densities. In addition, root-lesion nematodes interact with fungi such as Verticillium dahliae, resulting in disease complexes that enhance the damage inflicted on the potato crop. Management interventions are often focused on limiting nematode reproduction before planting crops and include the application of nematicides, and cultural practices such as crop rotation, cover crops, biofumigation, and biological control. Understanding the limitations of the available crop protection strategies is important and there are many gaps for further study. This review discusses the status of the diagnosis, distribution, pathogenicity, and management of the main species of root-lesion nematodes, reported to infect potatoes worldwide, and highlights areas for potential future research.  相似文献

Lactobacillus rhamnosus as additive for maize and sorghum ensiling   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus AT195, a potential probiotic microorganism cultured in buffalo "scotta" whey, on chemical and microbiological composition in maize and sorghum ensiling were evaluated. Both crops were harvested, chopped, and treated or not with the selected strain prior to ensiling in fiberglass vertical silos; 90 days after ensiling, silages were sensorially evaluated and sampled. Different chemical components were evaluated both on fresh crops and silages: in particular, the water-soluble carbohydrates content was investigated by high-field NMR spectroscopy and the carbohydrate fermentation profile was performed by GC. Besides phenotypic identification and typing, microbiological studies included Lb. rhamnosus genotype typing by RAPD-PCR. All silages, inoculated or not, were well preserved, as their chemical and microbiological data along with the fermentation profiles showed. The selected strain used as inoculum influenced the lactic acid population of silages and evidenced a good survival performance during the ensiling process of both maize and sorghum. Moreover, the use of Lb. rhamnosus strain efficiently improved the quality of the multifactorial ensiling process by significantly reducing the ammonia nitrogen content of both maize and sorghum silages.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to establish the limiting factors affecting the biosynthesis of volatile esters present in virgin olive oil (VOO). Oil volatile fractions of the main Spanish olive cultivars, Arbequina and Picual, were analyzed. It was observed that acetate esters were the most abundant class of volatile esters in the oils, in concordance with the high content of acetyl-CoA found in olive fruit, and that the content of C6 alcohols is limited for the synthesis of volatile esters during the production of VOO. Thus, the increase of C6 alcohol availability during VOO production produced a significant increase of the corresponding ester in the oils in both cultivars at two different maturity stages. However, the increase of acetyl-CoA availability had no effect on the VOO volatile fraction. The low synthesis of these C6 alcohols seems not to be due to a shortage of precursors or cofactors for alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity because their increase during VOO production had no effect on the C6 alcohol levels. The experimental findings are compatible with a deactivation of ADH activity during olive oil production in the cultivars under study. In this sense, a strong inhibition of olive ADH activity by compounds present in the different tissues of olive fruit has been observed.  相似文献

An aqueous decoction of mango (Mangifera indica L.) stem bark (MSB) has been developed in Cuba on an industrial scale to be used as a nutritional supplement, cosmetic, and phytomedicine, with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and immunomodulatory properties. The concentration of major and trace elements was determined for 16 varieties of MSB belonging to two cultivars and grown in Cuba in the same soil (red ferralytic). Plants were classified into two groups, according to the tree age (12 and 26 year olds) and were analyzed for As, Ca, Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Mg, Pb, Se, and Zn content by means of ICP-AES technique. Experimental data were processed by ANOVA and principal component analysis in terms of elements, variety, and plant age, to choose the most adequate varieties for industrial purposes.  相似文献

Irradiated brain tumors commonly progress at the primary site, generating interest in focal dose escalation. The aim of this retrospective observational study was to use biological optimization objectives for a modeling exercise with simultaneously‐integrated boost IMRT (SIB‐IMRT) to generate a dose‐escalated protocol with acceptable late radiation toxicity risk estimate and improve tumor control for brainstem tumors in dogs safely. We re‐planned 20 dog brainstem tumor datasets with SIB‐IMRT, prescribing 20 × 2.81 Gy to the gross tumor volume (GTV) and 20 × 2.5 Gy to the planning target volume. During the optimization process, we used biologically equivalent generalized equivalent uniform doses (gEUD) as planning aids. These were derived from human data, calculated to adhere to normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) ≤5%, and converted to the herein used fractionation schedule. We extracted the absolute organ at risk dose‐volume histograms to calculate NTCP of each individual plan. For planning optimization, gEUD(a = 4) = 39.8 Gy for brain and gEUD(a = 6.3) = 43.8 Gy for brainstem were applied. Mean brain NTCP was low with 0.43% (SD ±0.49%, range 0.01‐2.04%); mean brainstem NTCP was higher with 7.18% (SD ±4.29%, range 2.87‐20.72%). Nevertheless, NTCP of < 10% in brainstem was achievable in 80% (16/20) of dogs. Spearman's correlation between relative GTV and NTCP was high (ρ = 0.798, P < .001), emphasizing increased risk with relative size even with subvolume‐boost. Including biologically based gEUD values into optimization allowed estimating NTCP during the planning process. In conclusion, gEUD‐based SIB‐IMRT planning resulted in dose‐escalated treatment plans with acceptable risk estimate of NTCP < 10% in the majority of dogs with brainstem tumors. Risk was correlated with relative tumor size.  相似文献

Infection of poultry with chicken anemia virus (CAV) is implicated in several field problems in broiler flocks due to the immunosuppression generated and, consequently, the increased susceptibility to secondary infections. Recently, we have reported an increased occurrence of clinical cases caused by CAV strains distantly related to those commonly used for vaccination. In order to understand the behavior of two Argentinean CAV strains (CAV-10 and CAV-18) in two-week-old chickens, an immune and histopathological study was performed. Neither mortality nor clinical signs were observed in the infected or control groups. Thymus lobes from chickens infected with both CAV viruses were smaller compared to the negative control group. At 14 days post-infection (dpi), only chickens inoculated with CAV-10 show a severe depletion of lymphocytes in the thymus cortex and in follicles from the bursa of Fabricius. Also thymopoiesis disorders, such as reduction in the percentage of total DP (CD4 + CD8α+) thymocytes and alteration in the percentages of DP subpopulations, were more important in animals inoculated with the CAV-10 than the CAV-18 strain. In addition, only animals infected with CAV-10 show a decrease in CD8αβ splenocytes. Altogether our results show that, although both Argentinean CAV strains produce subclinical infections in chickens causing immunosuppression at 14 dpi, they might differ in their in vivo pathogenicity.  相似文献

Heat treatment induces defense mechanisms and triggers physiological responses that allow citrus fruit to withstand stressful conditions during storage. The aim of this paper was to identify changes in the proteome and the biochemistry of Valencia oranges (Citrus sinensis cv Valencia late) subjected to heat treatment before 0, 30 and 60 d of storage at 5 °C. Heat treatment for 48 h at 37 °C and 90% relative humidity was followed by 24 h at 20 °C. Differentially expressed proteins were detected by two-dimensional differential gel electrophoresis and identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization MS. Twenty eight different proteins in 40 spots among the 61 analyzed were identified. Functional classification showed that the main affected categories were “Cell rescue, defense, and virulence” and “Metabolism”; while 20% were found to be storage proteins with the rest related to minor categories. Activity of antioxidant enzymes was also evaluated. The most conspicuous change was an increase in superoxide dismutase in both the flavedo and juice sacs. Peroxidases increased in flavedo but decreased in sacs while alcohol dehydrogenase increased in treated flavedo, but not in sacs. Other fermentative enzymes were not affected. Metabolite content showed a higher concentration of sugars in heat treated fruit, while the main acids were slightly or not affected. These results are consistent with the development of a lower degree of fruit susceptibility to fungal pathogens, thus explaining the maintenance of postharvest quality.  相似文献
