The main causes of abortion in mares in France were studied from 1,822 cases submitted for necropsy. The cause of abortion was established in 74.9% of cases (n = 1,365). Fetoplacental infections (n = 869) represented 63.7% of diagnosed abortions. A noninfectious cause was found in 27.2% of cases (n = 496). Of the infectious causes of abortion, the vast majority were caused by bacteria (n = 695; 79.9%), followed by viruses (15.1%), and then fungi (1.8%). In 27 cases (3.1%), no specific pathogenic agent could be identified despite the presence of lesions. Of the noninfectious causes of abortion, umbilical cord abnormalities were the most frequent (n = 300; 60.5%). Placental villous hypoplasia represented the second most frequent cause (17.3%). This was followed by lethal congenital malformations (6.9%). The causes of placental insufficiency other than placental villous hypoplasia—twins, placental edema, placental premature separation, and body pregnancy—were less frequent. The diagnosis of equine abortion cases examined in Normandy seemed to be somewhat in agreement with the findings reported in Kentucky and the United Kingdom. In this study, about 60% of the cases were associated with a condition involving the allantochorion or the umbilical cord. Thus, to enhance diagnostic success, it is of prime importance to submit the fetal membranes along with the fetus for necropsy.  相似文献

Mineral nutrition of panicled gypsophila roots (Gypsophila paniculata L.) (Caryophyllaceae) cultivated in vitro in two media with different mineral composition, a classical Gamborg's B5 medium and a modified MH3 medium, was studied over a growth cycle of 28 days, by continuous measurement of mineral element consumption, without opening the culture flasks. The comparison between the total mineral element quantities consumed from media and those absorbed by roots at harvesting showed a good correspondence, proving the validity of the technique used and the absence of insolubilized mineral forms in the in vitro culture media. The mineral element composition of the MH3 medium was found to be better suited to Gypsophila paniculata root culture since all mineral nutrient elements are supplied in adequate quantities which are non‐limiting and non‐excessive. Culture on B5 medium showed that phosphorus (P) and copper (Cu) are probably the factors limiting growth and revealed an ammonium (NH4 +)/potassium (K+) ion antagonism. The in vitro roots, although uncoupled from the aerial part, behave like the roots of whole plants in several ways: the evolution of the medium pH corresponds to the form of the mineral nitrogen (N) consumed by the roots; sodium (Na) and chloride (Cl) are barely consumed and may be considered as non‐essential elements. Lastly, this in vitro root culturemodel makes itpossible to explain that the absorption of Na and Cl by the roots of whole plants is probably dependent on the transpiratory flow of the aerial part.  相似文献

Antimetastatic properties on both murine and human osteosarcoma cell lines (POS-1 and KHOS) have been evidenced using exopolysaccharide (EPS) derivatives, produced by Alteromonas infernus bacterium. These derivatives had no significant effect on the cell cycle neither a pro-apoptotic effect on osteosarcoma cells. Based on this observation, these EPSs could be employed as new drug delivery systems for therapeutic uses. A theranostic approach, i.e., combination of a predictive biomarker with a therapeutic agent, has been developed notably by combining with true pair of theranostic radionuclides, such as scandium 47Sc/44Sc. However, it is crucial to ensure that, once complexation is done, the biological properties of the vector remain intact, allowing the molecular tropism of the ligand to recognize its molecular target. It is important to assess if the biological properties of EPS evidenced on osteosarcoma cell lines remain when scandium is complexed to the polymers and can be extended to other cancer cell types. Scandium-EPS complexes were thus tested in vitro on human cell lines: MNNG/HOS osteosarcoma, A375 melanoma, A549 lung adenocarcinoma, U251 glioma, MDA231 breast cancer, and Caco2 colon cancer cells. An xCELLigence Real Cell Time Analysis (RTCA) technology assay was used to monitor for 160 h, the proliferation kinetics of the different cell lines. The tested complexes exhibited an anti-proliferative effect, this effect was more effective compared to EPS alone. This increase of the antiproliferative properties was explained by a change in conformation of EPS complexes due to their polyelectrolyte nature that was induced by complexation. Alterations of both growth factor-receptor signaling, and transmembrane protein interactions could be the principal cause of the antiproliferative effect. These results are very promising and reveal that EPS can be coupled to scandium for improving its biological effects and also suggesting that no major structural modification occurs on the ligand.  相似文献

Our aim was to establish the long-term effects of repeated applications after 20 y of organic amendments (farmyard manure at 10 t ha−1 y−1, and urban sewage sludge at two different rates, 10 t ha−1 y−1 and 100 t ha−1 every 2 y) on the quality of a sandy and poorly buffered soil (Fluvisol, pH 6). Chemical characteristics and biodegradability of the labile organic matter, which is mainly derived from microbial biomass and biodegradation products of organic residues, were chosen as indicators for soil quality. The organic C content had reached a maximal value (30.6 g C kg−1 in the 100 t sludge-treated soil), i.e. about 2.5 times that in the control. Six years after the last application, the organic C content and the microbial biomass content remained higher in sludge-treated soils than in the control. In contrast, the proportion of labile organic matter was significantly lower in sludge-treated soils than in manure-treated and control soils. The labile organic matter of sludge extracts appeared less humified than that of manure-treated and control soils.  相似文献

SUMMARY Iron supplementation of piglets with oral galactan given as a single dose within 24 hours of birth was evaluated in a series of on farm trials. The growth rate of piglets receiving this treatment was faster than that of piglets receiving single injections of iron dextran or iron galactan at 3 days of age, or ferrous sulphate crystals orally at weekly intervals. Mean values for red cell parameters of oral iron galactan supplemented piglets at 2 to 4 weeks of age were lower than those of injected piglets but there was no clinical evidence of anaemia in any of the piglets.  相似文献

Lipid A is a fundamental Gram-negative outer membrane component and the essential element of lipopolysaccharide (endotoxin), a potent immunostimulatory molecule. This work describes the metabolic adaptation of the lipid A acyl structure by Psychrobacter cryohalolentis at various temperatures in its facultative psychrophilic growth range, as characterized by MALDI-TOF MS and FAME GC-MS. It also presents the first elucidation of lipid A structure from the Colwellia genus, describing lipid A from strains of Colwellia hornerae and Colwellia piezophila, which were isolated as primary cultures from Arctic fast sea ice and identified by 16S rDNA sequencing. The Colwellia strains are obligate psychrophiles, with a growth range restricted to 15 °C or less. As such, these organisms have less need for fluidity adaptation in the acyl moiety of the outer membrane, and they do not display alterations in lipid A based on growth temperature. Both Psychrobacter and Colwellia make use of extensive single-methylene variation in the size of their lipid A molecules. Such single-carbon variations in acyl size were thought to be restricted to psychrotolerant (facultative) species, but its presence in these Colwellia species shows that odd-chain acyl units and a single-carbon variation in lipid A structure are present in obligate psychrophiles, as well.  相似文献

Since its introduction into northern Europe in 2006, bluetongue has become a major threat to animal health. While the efficacy of commercial vaccines has been clearly demonstrated in livestock, little is known regarding the effect of maternal immunity on vaccinal efficacy. Here, we have investigated the duration and amplitude of colostral antibody-induced immunity in calves born to dams vaccinated against bluetongue virus serotype 8 (BTV-8) and the extent of colostral antibody-induced interference of vaccination in these calves. Twenty-two calf-cow pairs were included in this survey. The median age at which calves became seronegative for BTV was 84 and 112 days as assayed by seroneutralisation test (SNT) and VP7 BTV competitive ELISA (cELISA), respectively. At the mean age of 118 days, 13/22 calves were immunized with inactivated BTV-8 vaccine. In most calves vaccination elicited a weak immune response, with seroconversion in only 3/13 calves. The amplitude of the humoral response to vaccination was inversely proportional to the maternal antibody level prior to vaccination. Thus, the lack of response was attributed to the persistence of virus-specific colostral antibodies that interfered with the induction of the immune response. These data suggest that the recommended age for vaccination of calves born to vaccinated dams needs to be adjusted in order to optimize vaccinal efficacy.  相似文献
