Soils are a major source of atmospheric NO and N2O. Since the soil properties that regulate the production and consumption of NO and N2O are still largely unknown, we studied N trace gas turnover by nitrification and denitrification in 20 soils as a function
of various soil variables. Since fertilizer treatment, temperature and moisture are already known to affect N trace gas turnover,
we avoided the masking effect of these soil variables by conducting the experiments in non-fertilized soils at constant temperature
and moisture. In all soils nitrification was the dominant process of NO production, and in 50% of the soils nitrification
was also the dominant process of N2O production. Factor analysis extracted three factors which together explained 71% of the variance and identified three different
soil groups. Group I contained acidic soils, which showed only low rates of microbial respiration and low contents of total
and inorganic nitrogen. Group II mainly contained acidic forest soils, which showed relatively high respiration rates and
high contents of total N and NH4
+. Group III mainly contained neutral agricultural soils with high potential rates of nitrification. The soils of group I produced
the lowest amounts of NO and N2O. The results of linear multiple regression conducted separately for each soil group explained between 44–100% of the variance.
The soil variables that regulated consumption of NO, total production of NO and N2O, and production of NO and N2O by either nitrification or denitrification differed among the different soil groups. The soil pH, the contents of NH4
+, NO2
– and NO3
–, the texture, and the rates of microbial respiration and nitrification were among the important variables.

Stagonospora convolvuli LA39, an effective biocontrol agent of Convolvulus arvensis (field bindweed) and Calystegia sepium (hedge bindweed) produces phytotoxic metabolites leptosphaerodione and elsinochrome A. Stagonospora isolate 214Caa produces the toxin cercosporin. If toxic metabolite production is not linked to the pathogenic ability of the fungus on bindweeds, selection of aggressive strains with limited or no production of the metabolites would reduce any perceived risk of using strains of the fungus as a mycoherbicide. Therefore, 30 isolates of Stagonospora sp. including LA39 and 214Caa were characterised for aggressiveness on both bindweeds, and production of the three metabolites. Nine isolates were more aggressive than LA39 on both bindweeds. Classification of isolates based on metabolite type agreed largely with previous similar characterisation based on polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism of internal transcribed spacer of ribosomal DNA. Cercosporin producers produced neither leptosphaerodione nor elsinochrome A and together with isolates that produce none of the three metabolites, were less pathogenic on bindweeds. Conversely, there was a positive correlation between elsinochrome A and leptosphaerodione production, and each was positively correlated with aggressiveness of isolates on both bindweeds. Generally, any isolate where elsinochrome A was not detected was not aggressive on any of the two bindweeds. This probably implies that selecting elsinochrome A-negative, but aggressive Stagonospora strain(s) may be difficult. However, aggressive isolates may not produce elsinochrome A in planta at levels that could constitute any risk in the environment. In a preliminary attempt to determine the levels of elsinochrome A and leptosphaerodione produced in diseased bindweeds, none of the toxins was detected in Stagonospora infected bindweed leaves. Detailed investigation focusing on the detection and quantification of in planta production of elsinochrome A by Stagonospora isolates, and determination of the fate of elsinochrome A in the environment, and its relationship with leptosphaerodione may be essential. Similarly, development of molecular tools to monitor the mycoherbicide following field application is vital. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the level of fat and selected fatty acids found in the milk of sows on the rearing of native breed piglets. Simultaneously, in order to improve the accuracy of the performed analyses, atomic absorption spectrometry was employed in the applied analytic methodology. The experimental animal material comprised 60 sows of the indigenous White Z?otnicka breed. Colostrum and milk were collected on the first and 14th days of lactation. In all, 240 samples were collected. The following parameters were determined in the course of the experiment: number and weight of piglets, body weight gains as well as deaths of piglets. A total of 1270 born piglets was subjected to investigations. The performed experiments demonstrated that, with the progress of the lactation period, the content of fat and saturated fatty acids (SFA) turned out to be statistically significant and showed a growing tendency. Fat increased by about 2% and palmitic acid (C16:0) increased most, that is by 5%. Linolic (C18:2) and linolenic (C18:3) acids revealed decreasing trends. Irrespective of the day of lactation, the level of unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) determined in sows' colostrum and milk was higher in comparison with that of SFA, and the UFA to SFA ratio ranged from 1.84% to 1.33%. Proportions of n‐6 to n‐3 fatty acids were determined at the level of about 1.6:1.0 in the colostrum and 1.3:10 in milk. The highest daily body weight gains were recorded in the case of piglets derived from sows with the highest fat level – 294 g, while in the case of stearic acid (C18:0), the smaller its concentration in the colostrum and milk of the experimental sows, the better body weight gains of piglets – 262 g. At the same time, stearic acid (C18:0) was found to exert a statistically significant effect on piglet mortality at the level of P ≤ 0.05. Its highest concentration caused the highest proportion of deaths among piglets ‐ 16.23%. The performed analysis of correlations that occurred between fat, fatty acids and traits associated with piglet rearing confirmed that linolic acid (C18:2; n‐6) was highly significantly correlated with piglets' body weights (r = 0.456**) and was negatively correlated with piglets' deaths (r = ?0.312). On the other hand, fat revealed correlation with body weight gains of piglets (r = 0.333*_ and a negative correlation with deaths of piglets (r = ?0344*). Recapitulating, the results of the performed experiments revealed that differences in the levels of fat and fatty acids found in sows' colostrum and milk influenced results of piglet rearing. Together with the increase in the content of fat and UFA in sows' colostrum and milk, piglets were characterized by the best body weight, growth rate, as well as by small mortality. 相似文献

Genetically modified (GM) maize containing genes from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) was cultivated on 29% of the total maize production area worldwide in 2009. Most studies to date compare Bt-maize varieties with their near isogenic lines; however, there is little information on the variability of conventional maize
breeding lines and how the effects of Bt varieties are ranked within. In our study on the potential risks of Bt-maize varieties, we analyzed tissue quality and compared the effects of ten conventional and GM maize varieties on soil microbiological
properties in a replicated climate chamber experiment. All maize varieties were cultivated twice in the same soil microcosm.
Shoot yields and soluble C in leaf tissue of Bt varieties were higher than the ones of non-Bt. Soil dehydrogenase activity was reduced by 5% under Bt varieties compared to non-Bt, while most of the other soil microbial properties (soil microbial biomass, basal respiration) showed no significant differences
between Bt and non-Bt varieties. The leaves and roots of one Bt variety were decomposed to a greater extent than the ones of its near isogenic line; the conventional breeding lines also
showed higher values. Changes in crop and soil parameters were found when comparing the first and the second crops, but the
effects of repeated cropping were the same for all tested varieties. For the studied parameters, the variation among non-Bt-maize varieties was similar to the difference between Bt and non-Bt varieties. 相似文献

The production of alcoholic beverages such as Tequila, Mezcal, whiskey, or beer includes the fermentation of a mash containing Maillard reaction products. Because excessive heating of the mash can lead to complications during the following fermentation step, the impact of Maillard products on the metabolism of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. For this purpose, fermentation was carried out in a model system in the presence and absence of Maillard reaction products and formation of ethanol served as a marker for the progression of fermentation. We found that increasing amounts of Maillard products reduced the formation of ethanol up to 80%. This effect was dependent on the pH value during the Maillard reaction, reaction time, as well as the carbohydrate and amino acid component used for the generation of Maillard reaction products. Another important factor is the pH value during fermentation: The inhibitory effect of Maillard products was not detectable at a pH of 4 and increased with higher pH-values. These findings might be of relevance for the production of above-mentioned beverages. 相似文献

Pepper yellow mosaic virus (PepYMV) is the most important potyvirus infecting sweet pepper in Brazil. In this study, twenty isolates of PepYMV were obtained from commercial sweet pepper crops. To confirm virus identity, the coat protein gene was completely sequenced for eleven of these isolates, and partially sequenced for the other nine isolates. The amino acid identities obtained were above 93% when compared with the sequence of a characterized PepYMV isolate (AF348610). Extracts of Nicotiana tabacum cv. TNN plants infected with the different isolates were used to inoculate the differential series of Capsicum spp cultivars containing the genes pvr2 1 , pvr2 2 , pvr2 3 , pvr2 4 , and Pvr4. Using the same criteria established for Potato virus Y (PVY), fourteen isolates of PepYMV could be classified as known pathotypes described for PVY, that is: 1.2 (2 isolates), 1.3 (6) and 1.2.3 (6). The remaining six isolates, 1.3 (2) and 1.2.3 (4) could not be classified into the typical pathotypes of PVY because they were also virulent on Serrano Criollo de Morellos—334 (C.M 334) which carries the pvr2 3 and Pvr4 genes. To classify the PepYMV into pathotypes and counter the biological diversity found in this species we propose the utilization of 2x for the ability to overcome the correspondent allele of the pvr2 locus and 4 for the capacity to break down the Pvr4 gene. Maillard products, such as Nepsilon-carboxymethyllysine (CML), are readily formed during the manufacturing of infant formulas. Little has been known, however, about the presence of CML in human breast milk and about the uptake of CML by infants. In this study, CML was measured in the serum and breast milk of 32 healthy mothers by ELISA. CML concentrations in breast milk (137 +/- 82.7 ng/mL) were significantly lower than in the serum (399 +/- 67.8 ng/mL, p < 0.001) and on average 35-fold lower than in infant formulas (4754 +/- 4299.5 ng/mL). CML was also measured in the urine of 21 infants, which were fed with breast milk or formulas. Although there was a tendency toward higher urinary CML excretion in infants fed with hypoallergenic formulas compared to breast-fed ones, the differences were not significant. Neonates that were delivered by vaginal birth had significantly higher concentrations of CML compared to those delivered by caesarean section (1306 +/- 653 vs 601 +/- 220 ng/mL, p = 0.012). It is concluded that CML passes from the serum into the breast milk, but the levels are by far lower than in infant formulas. In very young neonates (< or =3 days), the mode of delivery has a greater influence on urinary CML excretion than the nutrition. 相似文献
