The inhibitory effect of isoleucine (Ile) and antagonistic effect of leucine (Leu) and valine (Val) against the inhibition by Ile were investigated using simple batch and semicontinuous cultures of mixed ruminal microbes under feeding conditions using ordinary feed (timothy hay and corn grain). In the batch culture experiment, supplementation with Ile inhibited digestion and fermentation at 8–24 h of incubation as the concentration of Ile increased up to 5 mmol/L, but these inhibitions diminished at 48 h. The inhibition caused by Ile was mitigated by the addition of Leu and Val. In a semi‐continuous culture experiment using Rusitec, digestion and fermentation of the diet was suppressed by the administration of 1 and 5 mmol/L of Ile. The daily yield of microbial‐N was also reduced by Ile, but the density of the protozoa was not. The presence of Leu and Val alleviated the inhibition by Ile. These results suggest that the dietary inclusion of Ile possibly represses the bacterial growth, feed digestion and fermentation in the rumen in ordinary feeding situations by feedback inhibition, which could be diminished in the presence of other branched‐chain amino acids. The influences of the passage and level of supplementation on inhibition by amino acids are discussed. 相似文献

There is insufficient direct evidence of long-term changes in the chemical properties of forest soils to provide information for forestry management plans for sustainable site productivity. To understand changes in the chemical properties of forest soils in a specific high-precipitation climate in Japan, we re-investigated, in 1997, soil pits within a Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) forest in the Yanase region of Kochi Prefecture which had previously been surveyed in 1976. Comparison of the 1976 and 1997 results revealed significantly lower pH of surface and subsurface soils, and fewer exchangeable cations over time. In contrast, subsoil pH, concentrations of total carbon and nitrogen, and cation-exchange capacity (CEC) had not changed over the 21-year period. Estimation of proton and cation budgets in the forest ecosystem over 21 years, using data for the amounts in soil, biomass accumulation, and input through precipitation, revealed that biomass accumulation did not explain the cation depletion in soils. This suggests that cations were leached from the ecosystem. In contrast with previous reports, which showed Ca accumulation in Japanese cedar forest soils, our results indicated that high precipitation of more than 4,000 mm combined with acid deposition resulted in soil acidification and leaching of cations from soils, following the decrease in base saturation. 相似文献

For the purpose of investigation of working mechanisms in endocrine disruptors, we evaluated the dose-related effects of fetal and/or neonatal exposure to an estrogenic compound on the male reproductive organs in adult mice, particularly with respect to gene expression of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR). The pregnant ICR mice were given subcutaneous injections of 10 micro g/day/animal of diethylstilbestrol (DES) to subject the fetal mice to in utero exposure (IUE). Subsequently, the newborn male mice were subjected to neonatal exposure (NE) by treatment with vehicle or 0.1-10 micro g/day/animal of DES. Fertility rates of each group were as follows: control, 100%; IUE only, 60%; IUE+NE 0.1 micro g, 25%; IUE+NE 1 micro g, 0%; IUE+NE 10 micro g, 0%. In general histology, germ cell layers in the seminiferous tubules were thinned in the group of IUE+NE 10 micro g. Hypoplasia of the Leydig cells, in which the staining intensity of eosin was diminished, was also observed in the groups of IUE+NE 0.1-10 micro g. The androgen receptor (AR) and estrogen receptor alpha (ERalpha) immunoexpression in the Leydig cells of IUE+NE 1-10 micro g was slightly lower than that in the controls. Long-term dysfunction of the hypothalamo-pituitary-testicular axis, including sustained hypoproduction of gonadotropin and testosterone, and altered expressions of steroid hormone receptors and StAR genes were observed. The hypothalamo-pituitary control of gonadotropin secretion may be affected by the smaller doses of estrogenic agents than the reproductive organs. Furthermore, the fertility rate in the male mice exposed to this estrogenic agent was closely correlated with the testosterone levels, and even more so with the rate-limiting factor of steroidogenesis, StAR. This finding suggests that endocrine disruptors have an important pronounced effect on StAR gene expression. 相似文献
