A 4th of 667 cattle examined at a Wisconsin abattoir had teat papillomas. Excised teat papillomas were sorted by gross morphologic characteristics into 3 groups: (i) atypical filiform, (ii) atypical flat, and (iii) typical fibropapilloma. Bovine papilloma virus capsid antigen was detected in thin-section slides of the 3 groups of teat papillomas by peroxidase-antiperoxidase assay. The bovine papilloma virus involved with the atypical papillomas could not be characterized by molecular hybridization, because enough pure virus could not be harvested. Homogenates of the 3 groups of teat papillomas were inoculated on 2 ponies and 4 calves. Typical fibropapillomas were produced on the 4 calves, and fibromas, on the 2 ponies. Atypical papillomas were produced only in 2 heifers.  相似文献

The efficacy of oral vaccination for hemorrhagic enteritis of turkeys was assessed by comparing flocks raised on the same premises, under the same management, with and without vaccination. The immunizing virus, a strain of marble spleen disease virus of pheasants, was administered via the drinking water. Vaccinated and unvaccinated turkeys differed significantly in feed conversion rates and spleen weights after challenge.  相似文献

Six mixed-breed adult cats were given 5 mg of amikacin sulfate/kg of body weight by rapid IV, IM, and SC routes of administration. The serum concentration-vs-time data were analyzed, using a noncompartmental model. The harmonic mean +/- pseudo-SD of the effective half-life of amikacin was 78.8 +/- 19.3 minutes after IV administration, 118.7 +/- 14.4 minutes after IM administration, and 117.7 +/- 12.8 minutes after SC administration. The arithmetic mean +/- SD of mean residence time was 118.3 +/- 21.7 minutes, 173.4 +/- 19.9 minutes, and 171.7 +/- 19.1 minutes after IV, IM, and SC drug administration, respectively. The mean apparent volume of distribution at steady state was 0.17 +/- 0.02 L/kg, and the mean total body clearance was 1.46 +/- 0.26 ml/min/kg. Mean bioavailability was 95 +/- 20% after IM administration and 123 +/- 33% after SC drug administration. A recommended dosage of 10 mg/kg, q 8 h can be expected to provide a therapeutic serum concentration of amikacin with a mean steady-state concentration of 14 micrograms/ml. The SC route of administration is preferred, because of rapid absorption, good bioavailability, and ease of administration.  相似文献

1. Male broiler chickens were killed at various times up to 36 h after withdrawal of food; hepatic and muscle glycogen concentrations and pH were compared with those of control birds given continuous access to food and water. 2. Liver glycogen was reduced to negligible concentrations (less than 1 mg/g) within 6 h of food deprivation and the initial pH was elevated. 3. Withdrawal of food had no effect on glycogen concentrations in the m. pectoralis superficialis (PS) but reduced them in the m. biceps femoris (BF); the reduction was significant after 12 h. Ultimate pH was elevated by fasting in the BF, but not the PS.  相似文献

Records for pigs included in an experiment on reciprocal recurrent selection conducted from 1956 through 1971 at the USDA Beltsville Agriculture Research Center were analyzed to obtain estimates of heritabilities and genetic correlations and to derive prediction equations for estimating weight of lean cuts (WTLC) and percentage of lean cuts of shrunk slaughter weight (LCPC). Lean cuts growth rate (LCGR) was then estimated as WTLC/age of pig at slaughter. The base population consisted of two unrelated crossbred strains. A total of 1,294 records of F1 and F2 crossbred pigs were analyzed with one barrow and one gilt from each litter. Estimates of heritabilities and genetic correlations were computed with sire components of variance and covariance from a nested analysis of variance with an assumed model of years, strain-lines within years, sire within strain-lines, dams within sires and residual. Degrees of freedom were 307 for sires in strain-lines, 270 for dams in sires and 646 for residual. Heritability (h2) estimates were .42 +/- .13, .41 +/- .13 and .27 +/- .18 for WTLC, LCPC and LCGR, respectively, and .71 +/- .16, .38 +/- .13, .31 +/- .13 and .25 +/- .15 for carcass length, average backfat thickness, longissimus muscle area and ADG in BW, respectively. These estimates were apparently the first published genetic estimates involving LCGR based on carcass data. It was recommended that prediction equations to estimate WTLC, LCPC and LCGR for use in swine testing programs be derived from current meat-type pigs.  相似文献

The assessment of the protein quality of silaged maize ear products was carried out on the basis of crude protein and amino acid analyses and of N balance measurings with growing pigs including comparative studies with maize corns and cereals. The differences found in the amino acid concentrations between the individual maize ear products could be verified on the basis of the analysed values of husks, cobs and corns. There were no significant differences in the parameters of total protein utilization (PNu, b-value) between the studied silages. The differing crude fibre content resulted, however, in reverse shifts in N excretion in faeces and urine, i.e. diminished protein digestibility was compensated by improved intermediary utilization.  相似文献
