Observations of Hydrogen at Room Temperature (25{degrees}C) and High Pressure (to 500 Kilobars)

Hydrogen becomes a solid at 25 degrees C when subjected to a pressure of 57 kilobars. The high-pressure phase appears as a transparent crystalline mass. The refractive index of the high-pressure phase increases sharply with pressure, indicating a density increase of similar magnitude. At 360 kilobars the calculated density of the high-pressure phase is 0.6 to 0.7 grams per cubic centimeter.     

Aluminum Silicate System: Experimental Determination of the Triple Point

The kyanite-sillimanite-andalusite triple point exists in the pressure-temperature plane at 8 +/- 0.5 kb and 300 +/- 50 degrees C. Reactions are accomplished experimentally with a Bridgman opposed-anvil press (with an external furnace), modified to provide shearing of the sample charges. All three equilibrium boundaries are proved by reversed reactions.

Recent archeological work in northeastern West Mexico has provided information about a previously unknown area and some evidence regarding its relationship with other parts of Mexico. An occupation as early as A.D. 100 is suggested.
