This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementation of Wakame seaweed stalks on the immunity and intestinal microflora of pigs. Three separate experiments were performed: Relatively young (start at 20–30 kg; Experiments 1 and 2) and fattening period (70 kg; Experiment 3). All pigs (including the control group) were fed the same commercial feed, free from antibiotic additives, but in the feed for the treatment groups, 1% seaweed powder was added. There were no group differences observed in daily weight gain and feed intake in Experiments 1 and 2 between groups; however, daily weight gain was significantly higher in the treatment group compared to the control group in Experiment 3. The percentage of peripheral blood natural killer cells of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group in all experiments. Although addition of seaweed changed the gene expression of cytokine and toll‐like receptors of the small intestinal Peyer's patches slightly, seaweed seems to alter intestinal microflora preferentially, for instance, there was an increase in Lactobacillus and a decrease of Escherichia coli observed. These results suggest that Wakame seaweed can be used as supplement for pig feed to improve the gut health and immunity of pigs.  相似文献

Serpentine soils represent stressful environment with low calcium to magnesium ratio, deficiencies of essential macronutrients, increased concentrations of heavy metals and a low water-holding capacity. A considerable potential of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) to promote plant growth and nutrition can be expected under these adverse conditions. We tested a hypothesis that both host plants and AMF have evolved edaphic tolerance, which enable them to cope with the conditions of serpentine habitats. A reciprocal transplant experiment with a full factorial design was conducted, involving serpentine and non-serpentine substrates, host plants (Knautia arvensis, Dipsacaceae) and AMF isolates. After three-month cultivation under greenhouse conditions, plant growth and nutrition and AMF development were assessed. Our results evidenced the edaphic differentiation and higher tolerance of both plants and fungi of serpentine origin to serpentine soil. The better performance of serpentine plants was likely based on their tolerance to magnesium accumulation in shoot tissues. The serpentine AMF isolate not only developed higher root colonisation in serpentine conditions, but it was also more efficient in the growth promotion of and phosphorus uptake by the serpentine plants. As it had only a slight impact on magnesium uptake and no influence on calcium and nickel uptake by the serpentine plants, the improved P nutrition seemed to be the crucial mechanism of the mycorrhizal promotion effect. In conclusion, our study proved the tolerance of a plant–mycobiont complex to specific conditions of serpentine soils, which may indicate that not only the individual components of serpentine communities but also their functional interactions are subjected to selective evolutionary forces.  相似文献

Abstract

It has been showed that Chao’s method [extraction with 0.1 mol L?1 hydroxylamine hydrochloride (NH2OH-HCl) at pH 2.0 for 30 min], which is commonly used to extract manganese (Mn) oxides and occluded heavy metals from soil samples, is not suitable for Andisols because of low solubility, and thus low extractability, of Mn oxides in such soils. Therefore, a new method is evaluated here, for extracting Mn oxides and occluded heavy metals from Andisols, Entisols and Inceptisols. The method has three steps: (1) reduction of Mn oxides with 0.01 mol L?1 NH2OH-HCl (pH 5.0) for 16 h, (2) recovery of re-adsorbed metals by short-time extraction with 0.5 mol L?1 ammonium chloride in 0.02 mol L?1 hydrochloric acid, and (3) washing with ultrapure water. This method achieves a higher rate of extraction of Mn oxides than does Chao’s method, especially from Andisol samples. Standard addition experiments showed that both the new method and Chao’s method can successfully extract released cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) from Mn oxides with little re-adsorption. The selectivity of Mn oxide extraction by the new method, indicated by the rate of extraction of iron (Fe) oxides and the aluminum (Al)/Mn and silicon (Si)/Mn extraction ratios, is comparable to that of Chao’s method. Thus, the new method should be useful for extracting Mn oxides and occluded Cd, Co, Ni, and Zn from soil samples. Moreover, because the new method achieved nearly complete extraction of NH2OH-HCl reactive Mn oxides even from Andisol samples, the method is more applicable to Andisol samples than Chao’s method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: This study analyzed the functional expression of TLR3 in various gastrointestinal tissues from adult swine and shows that TLR3 is expressed preferentially in intestinal epithelial cells (IEC), CD172a+CD11R1high and CD4+ cells from ileal Peyer's patches. We characterized the inflammatory immune response triggered by TLR3 activation in a clonal porcine intestinal epitheliocyte cell line (PIE cells) and in PIE-immune cell co-cultures, and demonstrated that these systems are valuable tools to study in vitro the immune response triggered by TLR3 on IEC and the interaction between IEC and immune cells. In addition, we selected an immunobiotic lactic acid bacteria strain, Lactobacillus casei MEP221106, able to beneficially regulate the anti-viral immune response triggered by poly(I:C) stimulation in PIE cells. Moreover, we deepened our understanding of the possible mechanisms of immunobiotic action by demonstrating that L. casei MEP221106 modulates the interaction between IEC and immune cells during the generation of a TLR3-mediated immune response.  相似文献

Effects of oceanic-climate changes on the abundance of Pacific saury (Cololabis saira) in the northwestern Pacific during the last half century were investigated. Abundance indices of both large and medium size groups exhibit interannual–decadal variations, but their patterns were different. The large and medium size groups of saury are corresponding to the recruitments of winter- and spring-cohort, respectively. The abundance of large size group saury was significantly correlated with the winter sea surface temperature (SST) in the Kuroshio region, whereas the medium size group saury showed high correlations with SST in the Kuroshio–Oyashio transition zone and the Oyashio region, indicating that the two size groups are affected by subtropical and subarctic environment, respectively. Significant negative correlation between the abundance index and the southern oscillation index (SOI) suggested that El Niño-southern oscillation (ENSO) events have marked impacts on the large size group saury. Subtropical high pressure index and far east zonal index also show high correlations with the abundance of both large and medium size group saury, indicating a linkage between large-scale atmospheric circulation and the abundance of saury. These correlations demonstrate that the abundance of Pacific saury is directly affected by the SST fields through large-scale atmosphere–ocean interactions from the equatorial Pacific to mid- and high-latitude areas such as El Niño events.  相似文献

Polymeric procyanidins as radical-scavenging components in red-hulled rice   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The extracts from white-, black-, and red-hulled rice were prepared by sequential extraction with six different polar solvents, and their radical-scavenging activities were measured by methods using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH*) and tert-butyl hydroperoxyl radical (t-BuOO*). The extracts prepared with highly polar solvents, methanol and deionized water, exhibited higher DPPH* and t-BuOO* scavenging activities in all three cultivars. In addition, the acetone extract from red-hulled rice exhibited a high DPPH* and t-BuOO* scavenging activity, while no such activity was detected for the acetone extracts from white- and black-hulled rice. The major components responsible for the radical scavenging in the acetone extract from red-hulled rice were identified as procyanidins by acidic hydrolysis, vanillin assay, and Sephadex LH-20 chromatography. GPC analysis of the acetylated procyanidins revealed that the average molecular weight is about 5000, in a range of about 500-18,000.  相似文献

We used sequential extraction to investigate changes in the amounts of six chemical forms of manganese, cobalt and cadmium in soil samples after chloroform fumigation. The six forms were designated as follows: exchangeable, dilute-acid-soluble, manganese-oxide-occluded, organically bound, iron-oxide-occluded and residual. For all three metals, the decreases in the amounts of manganese-oxide-occluded forms were equivalent to the sum of the increases in the amounts of exchangeable and dilute-acid-soluble forms. The amounts of the other three forms did not change significantly after fumigation. These results indicate that some of the cobalt and cadmium in the manganese oxides was converted into exchangeable and dilute-acid-soluble forms, which suggests that soil sterilization may increase the availability of these heavy metals to plants.  相似文献

Many Japanese dragonfly species depend on habitat complexes maintained in rice paddy systems. We postulated that recent alterations to habitat complexes in paddy systems have had adverse effects on dragonfly populations, especially those ‘once common species’ that have come to depend primarily on paddy systems following losses of natural floodplain habitats. A high proportion of Japanese lentic dragonfly species depends on paddy fields or agricultural ponds that have been extensively degraded, while lotic species can often use both paddies and natural river systems. Thus we also postulated that lentic species are more susceptible to changes in agricultural habitats and are subject to higher extinction risks than lotic species. We aimed to extend previous work on estimating dragonfly extinction risk by developing mechanistic insights into the processes involved. Postulates were tested by analyzing relationships between (1) previous quantitative extinction risk assessments for dragonfly species and (2) species’ ecological characteristics (i.e., distribution range and habitat type [lentic or lotic]). Lentic species were disproportionately represented among those with elevated extinction risk. Species with large distribution ranges were also subject to higher extinction risks than those with narrower ranges, reflecting a driving force acting at a national scale (i.e., intensive degradation of paddy systems).  相似文献
