This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different diet energy levels on animal performance. Specifically, this investigation examined the reproductive and histological aspects of the liver and gonads of female silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen). These fish were fed for 210 days with diets containing 30% digestible protein (DP) and digestible energy (DE) that corresponded to 11.93, 12.98, 14.03, 15.07 and 16.12 MJ of DE kg?1. The initial and final lengths, weights, and weight gains, the visceral, gonadal, and hepatosomatic indices, and the histological parameters hepatocytes area and gonadal stages were evaluated. In the reproductive season, the fish were submitted to an artificial reproduction protocol and the percentage of spawning females and their relative and absolute fecundity were evaluated. DE did not affect reproductive or animal performance aspects (P > 0.05). Cytoplasmic vacuoles in hepatocytes were observed in higher DE levels. Thus, female Rhamdia quelen can be fed a diet of 30% DP with 11.93 MJ of DE kg?1 without reproductive or performance losses.  相似文献

Salinisation of soil is a problem in many parts of the world especially in agricultural lands that could also be contaminated with metals from pesticide use. This study aimed to derive a quality criterion standard in a defined substrate with the eventual aim of protecting earthworms against salinity, and to assess the influence of salinity on partitioning of, uptake in and toxicity of zinc to earthworms. To achieve this, two experiments were conducted with specimens of Eisenia fetida exposed in the laboratory for 28 days using OECD artificial soil spiked with either NaCl (experiment 1) or combination of Zn and NaCl (experiment 2). In the first experiment, NaCl was added in the following concentrations: 0, 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mg kg−1 NaCl. Mortality, growth and cocoon production were assessed at day 28. The results showed 28-day LC50 of 5436 mg kg−1 for NaCl. The EC50s for growth and cocoon production were 4985 and 2020 mg kg−1 NaCl, respectively. In the second experiment, Zn, added as ZnCl2 in a range of sub-lethal concentrations (0, 250, 500, 750 mg kg−1 Zn) was combined with 0, 2000 or 4000 mg kg−1 NaCl. The endpoints: mortality, weight change, and the internal zinc concentration were assessed at day 1, 7, 14 and 28 while cocoon production was assessed only at day 28. Apart from the total zinc concentration in the substrates, DTPA and CaCl2 extractable Zn concentrations were also determined at day 1 and 28 to assess how salinity influenced the partitioning of this metal in the substrates. There was a significant increase in CaCl2 and DTPA extractable Zn in the substrates as salinity increased suggesting that salinity influenced the partitioning of Zn in the substrates. Weight and mortality of worms were not significantly affected by NaCl and Zn as individual substances, but in combination both had significant effects on these parameters. In contrast, cocoon production was significantly affected by increased NaCl and Zn administered as individual substances, and the effects were more severe when both substances were present. The apparent synergy between Zn and NaCl could not be fully explained by internal zinc concentrations in the worms. It could, however, be partly explained by Cl effect from the addition of Zn as ZnCl2. It is concluded that salinity resulting from increased NaCl had an additive to synergistic effect in combination with Zn, in influencing toxicity to these earthworms.  相似文献

There is increasing interest in developing automatic procedures to segment landscapes into soil spatial entities that replace conventional, expensive manual procedures for delineating and classifying soils. Geographic object-based image analysis (GEOBIA) partitions remote sensing imagery or digital elevation models into homogeneous image objects based on image segmentation. We used an object-based methodology for the detailed delineation and classification of soil types using digital maps of topography and vegetation as soil covariates, based on the Random Forests (RF) classifier. We compared the object-based method's results with those of a pixel-based classification using the same classifier. We used 18 digital elevation model derivatives and 5 remote sensing indices that were related to vegetation cover and soil. Using 171 soil profiles with their associated environmental variable values, the RF method was used to identify the most important soil type predictors for use in the segmentation process. A stack of raster-geodatasets corresponding to the selected predictors was segmented using a multi-resolution segmentation algorithm, which resulted in homogeneous objects related to soil types. These objects were further classified as soil types using the same method, RF. We also conducted a pixel-based classification using the same classifier and soil profiles, and the resulting maps were assessed in terms of their accuracy using 30% of the soil profiles for validation. We found that GEOBIA was an effective method for soil type mapping, and was superior to the pixel-based approach. The optimized object-based soil map had an overall accuracy of 58%, which was 10% higher than that of the optimized pixel-based map.  相似文献

Although the application of sequencing-by-synthesis techniques to DNA extracted from bones has revolutionized the study of ancient DNA, it has been plagued by large fractions of contaminating environmental DNA. The genetic analyses of hair shafts could be a solution: We present 10 previously unexamined Siberian mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) mitochondrial genomes, sequenced with up to 48-fold coverage. The observed levels of damage-derived sequencing errors were lower than those observed in previously published frozen bone samples, even though one of the specimens was >50,000 14C years old and another had been stored for 200 years at room temperature. The method therefore sets the stage for molecular-genetic analysis of museum collections.  相似文献

We measure the differential conductance of a single-electron transistor (SET) irradiated with microwaves. The spin-entangled many-electron Kondo state produces a zero-bias peak in the dc differential conductance if the quantum dot in the SET contains an unpaired electron. When the photon energy hf is comparable to the energy width of the Kondo peak and to e (the charge on the electron) times the microwave voltage across the dot, satellites appear in the differential conductance shifted in voltage by +/-hf/e from the zero-bias resonance. We also observe an overall suppression of the Kondo features with increasing microwave voltage.  相似文献
