The steady-state model PROFILE was used to perform Monte Carlo simulations of critical loads of acidity and exceedances of forest soils for 128 sites in the province of Scania, southern Sweden. Statistical tests showed that 100 sites had normal distributed critical loads and exceedances and that the variance of these parameters was statistically equal for all sites. Pooled estimates of the standard deviation was 0.19 and 0.31 kmolc ha?1 yr?1 for the critical loads and exceedances, respectively. Introduction of uncertainties, expressed as confidence intervals, in the cumulative distribution function for critical loads showed that overlaps between percentiles were substantial. The 5%-ile was systematically equal to the 57%-ile using a 67% confidence interval and equal to the 87%-ile when a 95% confidence level was chosen. The overlaps of percentiles cause a reduction of acidic deposition according to the mean value of the 5%-ile to protect only 68% of the ecosystem area with an 84% probability and not a guaranteed protection of 95% as if uncertainties did not exist. With respect to their browning potential and in consideration of a combined recovery of pectin and phenolic compounds, peels of 14 cultivars and the flesh of nine cultivars of mango (Mangifera indica L.) fruits were analyzed for their contents of flavonol O- and xanthone C-glycosides by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-diode array detection-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). While total amounts of up to 4860 mg/kg dry matter demonstrated the peels to be a rich source of phenolic compounds, only traces could be detected in the flesh. The profile of flavonol glycosides of the peels proved to be highly characteristic and may therefore serve as a tool for authenticity control of mango puree concentrate, which is often produced from unpeeled fruits and represents an important intermediate for the production of mango nectars. Two compounds were isolated by preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of ESI-MS as well as NMR spectroscopy, establishing the two compounds as rhamnetin 3-O-beta-galactopyranoside and rhamnetin 3-O-beta-glucopyranoside, respectively. In the peels of red-colored cultivars, cyanidin 3-O-galactoside and an anthocyanidin hexoside so far not reported in mango could tentatively be identified. The contents and degrees of esterification of pectins extracted from the lyophilized peels ranged from 12.2 to 21.2% and from 56.3 to 65.6%, respectively, suggesting mango peels also as a promising source of high-quality pectin. 相似文献

Objectives— To investigate the histologic diagnosis and incidence of new mammary tumor growth in the remaining mammary chain tissue after regional mastectomy.
Study Design— Prospective clinical study.
Animals— Female dogs (n=99) that had excision of a single mammary tumor.
Methods— Female dogs that had regional mastectomy to remove a single tumor were followed for ≥1 year postoperatively. Data regarding tumor type, tumor recurrence, and development of metastasis were recorded.
Results— Fifty-seven (58%) dogs developed a new tumor in the ipsilateral mammary chain after the 1st surgery; 77% had repeat surgery. There was no significant correlation between the time to new tumor development and the histologic diagnosis for the 1st and 2nd tumor types. In 31 dogs, the histologic diagnosis for initial and subsequent tumors was identical and there was a significant correlation such that dogs with an initial malignant tumor are likely to develop another malignant tumor ( P =.0089). The histologic classification of the new tumor was likely to be malignant if it was located close to the side where the initial tumor had been removed ( P =.026).
Conclusions— Our results show that 58% of dogs developed a new tumor in the remaining mammary glands of the ipsilateral chain after regional mastectomy for removal of a single tumor.
Clinical Relevance— This should be taken into account when deciding on the surgical management (radical or regional mastectomy) in dogs with single mammary tumors. 相似文献

Since the development of effective N2O mitigation options is a key challenge for future agricultural practice, we studied the interactive effect of tillage systems on fertilizer-derived N2O emissions and the abundance of microbial communities involved in N2O production and reduction. Soil samples from 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm depth of reduced tillage and ploughed plots were incubated with dairy slurry (SL) and manure compost (MC) in comparison with calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) and an unfertilized control (ZERO) for 42 days. N2O and CO2 fluxes, ammonium, nitrate, dissolved organic C, and functional gene abundances (16S rRNA gene, nirK, nirS, nosZ, bacterial and archaeal amoA) were regularly monitored. Averaged across all soil samples, N2O emissions decreased in the order CAN and SL (CAN?=?748.8?±?206.3, SL?=?489.4?±?107.2 μg kg?1) followed by MC (284.2?±?67.3 μg kg?1) and ZERO (29.1?±?5.9 μg kg?1). Highest cumulative N2O emissions were found in 10–20 cm of the reduced tilled soil in CAN and SL. N2O fluxes were assigned to ammonium as source in CAN and SL and correlated positively to bacterial amoA abundances. Additionally, nosZ abundances correlated negatively to N2O fluxes in the organic fertilizer treatments. Soils showed a gradient in soil organic C, 16S rRNA, nirK, and nosZ with greater amounts in the 0–10 than 10–20 cm layer. Abundances of bacterial and archaeal amoA were higher in reduced tilled soil compared to ploughed soils. The study highlights that tillage system induced biophysicochemical stratification impacts net N2O emissions within the soil profile according to N and C species added during fertilization. 相似文献

Heavy metal phytoextraction is a soil remediation technique, which makes use of plants in removing contamination from soil. The plants must thus be tolerant to heavy metals, adaptable to soil and climate characteristics, and able to take up large amounts of heavy metals. Most of the high biomass productive plants such as, maize, oat and sunflower are plants, which do not grow in cold climates or need intensive care. In this study three “weed” plants, Borago officinalis; Sinapis alba L. and Phacelia boratus were investigated for their ability to tolerate and accumulate high amounts of Cd and Pb. Pot experiments were performed with soil containing Cd and Pb at concentrations of up to 180 mg kg?1 and 2,400 mg kg?1 respectively. All three plants showed high levels of tolerance. Borago officinalis; and Sinapis alba L. accumulated 109 mg kg?1 and 123 mg kg?1 Cd, respectively at the highest Cd spiked soil concentration. Phacelia boratus reached a Cd concentration of 42 mg kg?1 at a Cd soil concentration of 100 mg kg?1. In the case of Pb, B. officinalis and S. alba L. displayed Pb concentrations of 25 mg kg?1 and 29 mg kg?1, respectively at the highest Pb spiked soil concentration. Although the Pb uptake in P. boratus reached up to 57 mg kg?1 at a Pb spiked soil concentration of 1,200 mg kg?1, it is not suitable for phytoextraction because of its too low biomass. 相似文献

Little is known about the ecology of soil inoculants used for pathogen biocontrol, biofertilization and bioremediation under field conditions. We investigated the persistence and the physiological states of soil-inoculated Pseudomonas protegens (previously Pseudomonas fluorescens) CHA0 (108 CFU g?1 surface soil) in different soil microbial habitats in a planted ley (Medicago sativa L.) and an uncovered field plot. At 72 days, colony counts of the inoculant were low in surface soil (uncovered plot) and earthworm guts (ley plot), whereas soil above the plow pan (uncovered plot), and the rhizosphere and worm burrows present until 1.2 m depth (ley plot) were survival hot spots (105–106 CFU g?1 soil). Interestingly, strain CHA0 was also detected in the subsoil of both plots, at 102–105 CFU g?1 soil between 1.8 and 2 m depth. However, non-cultured CHA0 cells were also evidenced based on immunofluorescence microscopy. Kogure's direct viable counts of nutrient-responsive cells showed that many more CHA0 cells were in a viable but non-culturable (VBNC) or a non-responsive (dormant) state than in a culturable state, and the proportion of cells in those non-cultured states depended on soil microbial habitat. At the most, cells in a VBNC state amounted to 34% (above the plow pan) and those in a dormant state to 89% (in bulk soil between 0.6 and 2 m) of all CHA0 cells. The results indicate that field-released Pseudomonas inoculants may persist at high cell numbers, even in deeper soil layers, and display a combination of different physiological states whose prevalence fluctuates according to soil microbial habitats. 相似文献

Flavonol O- and xanthone C-glycosides were extracted from mango (Mangifera indica L. cv. "Tommy Atkins") peels and characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. Among the fourteen compounds analyzed, seven quercetin O-glycosides, one kaempferol O-glycoside, and four xanthone C-glycosides were found. On the basis of their fragmentation pattern, the latter were identified as mangiferin and isomangiferin and their respective galloyl derivatives. A flavonol hexoside with m/z 477 was tentatively identified as a rhamnetin glycoside, which to the best of our knowledge, has not yet been reported in mango peels. The results obtained in the present study confirm that peels originating from mango fruit processing are a promising source of phenolic compounds that might be recovered and used as natural antioxidants or functional food ingredients. 相似文献

This paper describes a pilot process for obtaining protein isolates from white lupin seed with improved water solubility and technofunctional properties as well as reduced thermal damage. After a careful optimization of the process parameters, two valuable food ingredients were prepared: lupin protein isolate type E, with a useful emulsifying capacity, and lupin protein isolate type F, with a high capability of foam formation and stabilization. The spray-drying process was particularly critical for inducing some thermal damage, but a careful selection of the conditions permitted ingredients having only marginally impaired lysine bioavailability to be obtained. Recent experimental evidence on the relationship between temperature and litter or soil organic matter decomposition suggests that the simple assumption that temperature affects the rate constant of the processes may not be valid. Thermal conditions seem to influence the kinetics of C mineralization by changing, in a qualitatively predictable way, the estimated percentages of initial material that behave as labile or recalcitrant. The consequences of this shift in mineralization dynamics due to temperature, referred to as the functional shift hypothesis, for the long-term C accumulation potential of a soil were investigated using a modified version of Jenny's model. It was concluded that if soils behave according to the functional shift hypothesis, then the utilization of Q10 or other temperature response functions by simulation models leads to significant overestimations of soil C losses due to temperature increase. 相似文献

Although morel mushrooms are widely used as tasty ingredients in savory dishes, knowledge of the key compounds evoking their attractive taste is still very fragmentary. In the present study, taste activity-guided fractionation of an aqueous morel extract by means of the recently developed taste dilution analysis (TDA) enabled the localization of several umami-like-tasting fractions as well as a fraction imparting an intense mouth-drying sensation to the oral cavity. Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC), LC-MS, and amino acid analysis led to the successful identification of gamma-aminobutyric acid as the chemical inducer of the mouth-drying and mouth-coating oral sensations imparted by the morel extract. Besides the well-known umami-like taste contributors L-glutamic acid, L-aspartic acid, and succinic acid, an additional HILIC fraction was isolated and evaluated as tasting umami-like. LC-MS and NMR studies revealed that this fraction consisted of a mixture of (S)-malic acid 1-O-alpha-D-glucopyranoside and (S)-malic acid 1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, the structure of which could be successfully confirmed by independent synthesis. To the best of our knowledge, this morel-derived glycoside, which we named (S)-morelid, has previously not been reported in any food products. Sensory analysis of aqueous solutions of the compounds identified revealed threshold concentrations of 0.02 mmol/L for the mouth-drying effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid and 6.0 mmol/L for the umami-like, slightly sour taste of (S)-morelid. 相似文献
