Gastrointestinal endoscopy has proved to be an important tool in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal disease in the dog. An endoscope for the examination of oesophagus, stomach, and colon is described. Examination of the duodenum is also possible with this type of endoscope in the larger breeds of dogs. Indications, advantages, and disadvantages of the endoscopy are pointed out.  相似文献

HAES Steril 10% is a colloidal plasma expander rarely used in veterinary medicine. In this study HAES was used in clinical cases for the treatment of shock and in a comparative hypervolemic hemodilution study (HAES versus lactated Ringer's solution) using two experimental horses. Injection of a HAES volume equivalent to 10% of estimated blood volume resulted in a highly significant drop in PCV and in a significant drop in total protein concentration. Half live of HAES was approximately two hours. No incompatibility reactions were observed. In man HAES improves microcirculation. Studies in progress may confirm a similar effect in the equine.  相似文献

The effects of N supply on digestion were compared in cows in late pregnancy vs early lactation. Two groups of four and one group of three dairy cows received, during a digestion trial, corn silage-concentrate diets (65:35) differing in N supply. Concentrates were formulated so that diets were either insufficient (Diet 1) or sufficient (Diets 2 and 3) in ruminally fermented N and either insufficient (Diets 1 and 2) or sufficient (Diet 3) in protein digestible in the intestines. Experimental periods were 3 wk before and 3 wk after parturition. Organic matter digestibilities were 69.8, 73.1 and 72.5% in late pregnancy vs 64.9, 69.8 and 70.8% in early lactation for Diets 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Digestibility was higher (P less than .05) in late pregnancy than in early lactation. Differences between physiological states were attributed to differences in ruminal digestibility and in fiber digestibility. These differences were not explained by a reduction in large particle retention time, but in situ DM disappearance was reduced in early lactation. Ruminal protozoa concentration and the acetate: propionate ratio decreased between pregnancy and lactation. The duodenal non-ammonia N:N intake ratio was higher for Diet 1 than for Diets 2 and 3, 1.20, .97 and .94, respectively, but it did not vary between physiological states. In conclusion, some of the negative consequences of a shortage in degraded N are more dramatic in early lactation than in late pregnancy.  相似文献

We examined the functional role of adrenergic receptor subtypes (ARs) in bovine intra-mammary arteries (IMAs), 1.5–2.5 mm internal diameter. Norepinephrine (NE) and phenylephrine (PE) produced concentration-dependent increases in tone in segments maintained at a previously determined optimal basal tension in vitro . The sensitivity of the tissue to NE and PE, based on -log molar ED50s was 6.87 ± 0.17 and 7.05 ± 0.35, respectively. In addition a Schild analysis yielded antagonist affinities for the receptor mediating contractile responses to NE (pA2 value) of 10.46 ± 0.85 for prazosin and 6.29 ± 0.18 for yohimbine. These data indicate a dominance of functional alpha 1 (α1) over alpha 2 (α2)-ARs in this tissue. Based on the inhibitory effects of chloroethylclonidine (CEC) on PE responses and the further reduction in sensitivity when nifedipine was added to the CEC, also in the presence of PE, we conclude that there is more than one α1-AR subtype, with a predominant role for α1B-ARs in phenylephrine responses. Stimulation of beta (β)-ARs, resulted in relatively small reductions in tone (the highest magnitude of response was 25.94 ± 6.46% of the papaverine maximum at 3×10−6 M isoproterenol); in addition, propranolol did not significantly alter tissue sensitivity to NE. Additional characterization of functional autonomic receptor populations in this circulatory bed will form a basis for future studies on circulatory dynamics in the mammary gland.  相似文献

Feline injection site sarcomas have mostly been associated with the administration of vaccines. Although the pathogenesis remains largely unknown, it is believed the inflammatory reaction caused by the injection of the compound leads to uncontrolled proliferation of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts that may undergo malignant transformation in a subset of cats. Pretreatment evaluation and proper planning of therapy are essential. Currently, because of the aggressive nature of these tumors, a multimodality treatment approach is recommended.  相似文献

Two methodologies for the measurement of peptide amino acids (PAA) in blood were compared to evaluate their effects on the measurement of the net flux of peptides across the gastrointestinal tract of sheep. These methods consisted of a chemical deproteinization of blood samples with sulfosalicylic acid (1.6 M, 0.1 ml for 1 ml of sample) or perchloric acid (1 M, 1 ml for 1 ml of sample) followed by ultrafiltration through a 3,000-Da cut-off filter (SSA + UF3 kD) or gel filtration through a Sephadex G-15 column (1,500-Da cut-off filter; PCA + G-15), respectively, prior to PAA analysis. Peptide concentrations as determined by amino acid concentrations before and after hydrolysis of samples were slightly greater with the SSA + UF3 kD (991 microM) than with the PCA + G-15 (605 microM) methodology. However, both methodologies gave similar net portal-drained viscera flux data in sheep fed on alfalfa pellets with histidine as the only significant uptake of peptide amino acid.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare cardiovascular and systemic effects and analgesia during the postoperative period of epidural anesthesia performed with bupivacaine alone or with fentanyl or sufentanil in bitches maintained at a light plane of anesthesia with continuous infusion of propofol. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective randomized masked clinical trial. ANIMALS: 30 female dogs of various breeds. PROCEDURES: Dogs were allocated into 3 groups of 10 each. One group received fentanyl (2 microg/kg [0.91 microg/lb]) and bupivacaine (1 mg/kg [0.45 mg/lb]), 1 group received sufentanil (1 microg/kg) and bupivacaine (1 mg/kg), and 1 group received bupivacaine (1 mg/kg). All dogs received acepromazine (0.1 mg/kg [0.045 mg/lb]) and continuous infusion of propofol for sedation. The agents were administered into the lumbosacral space and diluted in saline (0.9% NaCl) solution to a total volume of 0.36 mL/kg (0.164 mL/lb). Cardiac and respiratory rates, arterial blood pressures, pH, and blood gases were evaluated. Analgesia, sedation level, serum cortisol concentrations, and plasma catecholamine concentrations were measured regularly for 6 hours. RESULTS: No important changes in cardiovascular, respiratory, or sedation variables were observed. Degree of analgesia in the postoperative period was higher in the sufentanil group, although use of fentanyl and bupivacaine also resulted in a sufficient level of analgesia. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Use of the 3 anesthetic techniques permitted ovariohysterectomy with sufficient analgesia and acceptable neuroendocrine modulation of pain with minimal adverse effects.  相似文献

Six donkeys each received 2 mg/kg marbofloxacin as a 10 per cent aqueous solution administered intravenously. Principal pharmacokinetic parameters were determined and two efficacy indices were computed by using pharmacokinetic parameters and selected mic90 values of marbofloxacin against pathogenic equine strains to predict the efficacy of the drug at this dose. The pharmacokinetics of marbofloxacin in donkeys was characterised by a large mean volume of distribution at a steady state (1.15 [0.09] l/kg) and a long mean (sd) elimination half-life of 9.24 (1.96) hours. It was also characterised by a relatively slow total body clearance of 0.10 (0.02) l/kg/hour, slower than in horses. Using mic90 values of marbofloxacin against pathogenic equine strains with a daily dose of 2 mg/kg, appropriate values of efficacy indicators were obtained only for Enterobacteriaceae. Daily intravenous doses of 0.33, 2.62 and 20 mg/kg were calculated for evaluation in clinical trials of infections due to Enterobacteriaceae, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococci, respectively.  相似文献
